This one’s the continuation of the Anne of Green Gables Halloween gag from the previous strip. Phoebe shows up dressed as a French maid. I think everyone saw that one coming.
Now, it must be said that I consider Phoebe’s costume to be a lost opportunity here. This strip was drawn in the days before Google image search (that friend to all artists), and so I really just winged the French maid thing without any kind of decent reference. The results are rather plain, in my opinion.
Back in 99, you could get access to the internet to get “sexy maid costumes”, just not as easy as it is now. I mean, as a college student, you either had to go to the computer lab, or use a dialup connection, which took forever.
I had dial-up at home. It was blazing fast. I distinctly remember waiting three hours to try and load the Star Wars Episode I trailer – back before we knew it would suck. Three hours wasn’t enough time to actually load a two-minute trailer. Those were the golden years.
Even though I remember the days when it took an hour to download a photo, I still get angry when it takes 30 seconds for the strip to load… Why is that?
On these black and white ones, I really don’t know why. They’re small jpegs and should load reasonably fast. In fact, I just went to this page and the comic was up in one second. (The ads and other images took about five seconds, but the comic was almost immediate.) The color ones on this site do take a bit longer to load because I don’t compress the jpegs at all. (Compressing jpegs can do ugly things to colors sometimes.) But yeah, maybe it’s some temporary glitch with my server or something.
Um… I think the answer to Kevin’s question should be something like, “More spiritual growth is needed… consider a retreat at your local monastery.”
Hmm… If Puck is really 621, then she probably remembers the legal age of marriage being 12 for the first 5 centuries and change of her life (and well before her birth, going back pretty much to whatever point various cultured decided they even needed a law about it.) Now, it was still more COMMON to get married a few years older than that, but not any sort of crime.
So I can easily imagine Puck being not much offended but still taking the opportunity to mock Colin over it.
Well, to be honest, pain IS a costume for Phoebe.
Drait! Plain. Plain is a costume for Phoebe. I hate it when I do that.
Well, pain works too. Not sure how comfortable some of her getups are.
It gets to be more so as the comic goes on.
Colin – snort! – what a wuss! It serves him right that he’s missing sexy Phoebe in her sexy outfit. Oh-la-la!
I have to admit that the maid outfit just wasn’t up to par. Could be sexier.
