Thus begins the Mamagrow storyline – one of the funnier moments in the whole Puck series. For those that have been following along with the series, you’ll know that Puck’s lack of endowment has long been a source of cheap jokes. That unholy tradition continues here.
My one friend thought that the Mamagrow salesman looked freaky. I guess he does.
And for those who aren’t the native English-speaking types, the whole “first-born child” thing has been taken from the European folktale “Rumpelstiltskin”, where the evil gnome/goblin/dwarf creature called Rumpelstiltskin makes a girl promise to hand over her first-born child in exchange for him spinning straw into gold. That sort of weird literary allusion pops up now and then in this series.
I know the Daphne wasn’t born so much as just fell out of the ugly tree and landed on the doorstep… but I really hope it gets traded away… permanently.
Nah, Daphne’s adopted, ugly tree or not. Doesn’t count.
This guy really hates Daphne, doesn’t he? Or maybe, he’s a closet furry that’s REALLY into her, but tries so hard to deny it outwardly so vehemently that he hopes to convince himself otherwise?
I think the latter. 🙂
That’s my best guess too.
I’m fundamentally incapable of that level of dishonesty, unfortunately.
The comments were generally my way of saying “please make it go away forever”.
Random acts of irony: the ad in the lower right of this image randomly appeared with this strip.
The model in the ad looks happier in the before picture. The arrow indicates the extra effort required if you want to grope her from behind. “C-Cup in Weeks” … even if you start with Ds?
Oh, there’s no random here. It’s the beauty of contextual advertising! FEEL THE CONTEXT!!!
Beautiful! Just beautiful!
Looking back on this strip has me concerned. I can’t remember if this was ever resolved to where I don’t have to worry about Miranda or not.
Well, I don’t think this contract is legally binding. Besides, I just don’t think a ‘creepy sales guy comes back’ story arc would be very popular. So on that front, I think Miranda is safe.
Puck: “First-born children? How can you sleep at night?”
Mamagrow Salesman: “Well, if you think about it, the quality of our work probably directly led to that child coming into existence in the first place!”
Puck: (…I’m going to buy some condoms after this.)
Pertinent.
