NEW YEAR = NEW VOTING INCENTIVE!!!
It’s a new year to fill us all with dread! In honor of that, you can break out the bubbly and ring 2022 in with Puck, so…
As for this comic…
A lot of people in the comments called this. And that’s okay. It’s hard to surprise your readership when your readership is intelligent and has a good grasp of storytelling tropes. So if anything, I take it as a sign that I’m on the right path.
I forget, who called it?
A few people called it. I wasn’t keeping track. But it was a general consensus in the comments. And that consensus was right.
panel 4 is cute.
Mission accomplished!
I am reminded of The Monster Squad.
I am too. Wasn’t a conscious homage but almost certainly a subconscious inspiration.
“You forgot this”
Thank goodness helpful monsters are there when you need them.
Is Miranda saying “Uppy, I want”?
It’s one of a toddler’s most important phrases!
Nah, it’s a callback to her attempt at “Puppy Power!” which is Scrappy’s catch phrase. And in a bit of narrative resonance, Scrappy would always shout that as her pursued the large monster of the week.
Truly I have learned something today.
It is a good day!
Puppy Power, dude.
Thanks! I need remedial education in the classics!
Miranda has conquered the monster.
Or the other way around.
I think the narrator has a point.
Awww! Chat called it!
If they’re lucky, Miranda won’t hurt him.
no monster will hurt another, its against their code 😉
Have you talked to Godzilla lately?
God willing.
Dougie: “Ah gosh, why’d they run? I just wanted to return this adorable little munchkin to them…”
Monsters are frequently just misunderstood.
But you know what, the kid is walking after all.
Dammit, I didn’t realize. Okay, next time a kid is reluctant to walk, I’ll tell the parents to just put them together with a yeti. That’ll go over well, I’m sure of it.
Funny that.
Happy new year, Mr. Gecko! Thanks for bringing Puck and the gang to us. Your Tuesday magic certainly helped make the last miserable year be a little more tolerable.
If I can add even an iota of non-misery to someone’s life, then it is worth it. Thanks. And a very happy new year to you too, good sir.
Hm. When next they meet the dougie, Puck may be rage-fueled, and hence much more dangerous (according to Word of Gecko). Will Miranda need to save the dougie from Puck’s wrath?
NO, unkka ougggie!
Hey, it’s a dangerous role, being the monster in the woods. You never know when one of your victims might attack you back.
One of my favorite lines is from Cape Jugalum when Granny Weatherwax is about to go into the monster-haunted woods and someone objects because of the aformentioned monsters. Someone who knows Weatherwax asks why should he care about what happens to some old monsters. She smiles. 🙂
“Chateau Chapeau” with a bowler hat logo is a good pun.
“Chateau Cheapo” might be a more…appropriate…quaff for Puck…
Miranda just adopetd The Dougie (that moniker reminds me of the “Final Space” character of “The Gary (NO! It’s. Just. GARY!)”) and is bringing him/her home.
Cuteness overload.
Also Puck’s voting picture. YOWZA!
I aim for cute on all fronts, in different ways.
I’m shocked Miranda knows her character’s catchphrase. One would think her parents would know better than to let her see episodes containing the CURSED ONE.
The problem there, beyond time/energy constraints, is that big people can sometimes forget how little people misses certain nuances. Like the fact that the person smiling at the hero is actually plotting their death. By immersion in boiling tar.
Phoebe taught it to Miranda, in what might have been an act of revenge for Puck stealing the role of Daphne Blake. Though revenge isn’t a very Phoebe thing, so maybe Phoebe just really likes Scrappy.
I’d have expected Colin to have done it because, well, why wouldn’t he? It fits the costume and she can’t kill him until they get married. She wants that wedding!
I don’t think the threat of impending marriage will necessarily keep the man safe.
Hm.
Safe from what? Because he HAS to be alive for the ceremony to work and he needs to be conceous. Everything else is negotiable.
I’m sure his role could be replaced by some more agreeable actor.
“I’m sure his role could be replaced by some more agreeable actor.”
Ha! 🙂
???
where would she find someone as agreeable/stupid as Colin?
I feel stupid, agreeable guys are fairly plentiful. It’s the smart agreeable guys that are in short supply.
Trying to surprise your readers at every cost is not good idea – often it’s at the cost of common sense, suspension of disbelief, narrative consistency …. Happy New Year. Let it be better than the last one, it’s pretty low bar after all.
Yeah, I feel like there are good ways to surprise readers, but the ‘surprised reader’ phenom is generally a little overrated. It can’t be the primary goal of the narrative, anyway.
And Happy New Year to you too. I don’t feel good about this one, but hey. Better to go into the year with lowered expectations, right?
More like that poor, helpless, horrible beast is still somewhere back there with Miranda.
More accurate, surely.
This page is giving me an ad for a course “The Neurobiology of Attachment and How that Impacts the Treatment of Trauma”.
We can only speculate how the AI choose this; perhaps associating Miranda’s attachment to the Dougie and Colin’s impending trauma at the hands of Puck?
Well, it means the contextual ad system isn’t working very well. Or it’s working on a level that we can’t hope to comprehend.
They are very similar.
Called it! Now, I’m worried . . . for Dougie, because much as I want to be pleasantly surprised that Puck understands the situation before taking action, this is Puck we’re talking about. Colin, sure; Puck however . . . well, there’s always hope . . . . . . . .
Is there always hope? I’m not so sure…
Well, I hope there is . . .
Of course it was called. Still adorable, but good work.
Thank you for the puck-centric incentive. Freckly redheads are still the best. Not quite as fetching as the prom chaperone outfit, but she still looks amazing.
How have I not commented till now?!?! Unreal
Ooh! An LTWFTW! Well, I’m very glad you did comment. Because now I know you exist. And now I know that you are a reader with excellent taste.
“LTWFTW”?
Do I want to know?
This will provide the answer you’re looking for.
And my question is answered. I did want to know.
Too tired to read all comments. BUT, I’m just wondering which one has which on the leash. I’m thinking “Puppy” is on the leash and that is based on real world experience and having watch a certain cartoon since it started. H/B was good but no loony tune
I don’t know what Gecko would say, but looking at the fourth panel, I’m speculating that this is PUCK, where cartoon universes break down the fourth wall in search of a 2 4 of Elsinore, Tim Hortons coffee, touques, creullers and Burger King Poutine.
Complex theorizing. But interesting.
It’s Cutie and the Beast!!! Wouldn’t that make a great spinoff? 😉
Terrifying. Truly.
