IT’S NFTs WITH A PHOEBE TWIST! IT’S NPHTs!!!
Okay, so they’re not really NFTs. I’m not getting anywhere near the blockchain. But these are even better! Each non-procedurally-generated NPHT will be ‘minted’ to one of my high-tier Puck patrons – and they’ll know it’s theirs because their names will be on them! A new NPHT will be popping up every day or two all throughout April, so vote often to see ’em all!
VOTE TO TAKE IT TO THE MOON!!!
As for this comic…
One might say the only thing worse than being fake-stranded on the roadside is being strung along by a comic that fake-promised a convention arc, then fake-promised a monster story, then revealed the whole thing was ultimately meaningless. One might say such a thing. Especially if said story arc has been running since 2020. One might say just such a thing.
I really hope that wedding plans don’t get brought up… or shot down.
I think this is the perfect time to propose.
He needs to do something to distract her.
Well, he already did that a while back. Though he could try it again. It’s a good trick. Like spinning.
Seems like everyone has just plum forgotten about that.
after Puck loses her voice from blowing her stack, I just have 1 question: How the heck are they gonna get outta there?
Uhm, in the van? Which is working?
it will run out of gas before she finishes. I have one like her at home.
Eh. The arc was entertaining and mostly what I expected from these guys.
It kept you guessing, and it wasn’t as… ‘predictable’ as convention or monster stories.
Yeah, I do kind of feel bad for Colin here. He’s not mechanically inclined, so how was he to know?
Puck is probably just mad because she assumed that he would know because he’s a guy.
You’d think a millennia-old creature of myth would have a better grasp of what mere mortals can do.
And experience with carbureted engines that were mass produced for 80 years.
Maybe she figured, “Gas engines? a fad. Why bother learning them, they’ll be insignificant in 150 years.”
She’s impulsive, but she’s got perspective!
Yeah. This sounds likely.
Puck is definitively lazy. And more than a little antediluvian. You will note that we’ve never once seen her behind the wheel. I don’t think she ever learned how to drive.
Ah! She’s only centuries old. Common mistake.
Well, if I can manage a story that is stupid but is at least unpredictably stupid, I feel I’ve done my bit.
Does this mean they’re not going to the convention?
Unlikely. But we will see.
They might have missed it already.
where puck is involved, ‘normal’ is never part of the vocabulary
Unless preceded by an ‘ab’.
Wonder how long it will take Schnorff to notice his flashlights are still burning. If these are the only light sources in the scene, boy howdy, but they are powerful. Must be nuclear powered Maglights+.
The scene is lit (like all these nighttime scenes) by flood lights. Or some kind of movie magic. Because otherwise we’d be looking at very dark panels.
Possibly the glowing fungi that allow film scenes in caves to not be in pitch blackness.
That was my assumption…. though I would not dispense with the idea that Papa Schnorff’s head-fitted Maglites are just that POWERFUL. The dude managed overnight shenanigans of some undefined sort with Phoebe, so there’s something ’bout that …. man?
They’ve been together for how many years?
She can’t be surprised. In fact, she may like Colin’s ineptitude.
He has other virtues (and seems to be holding down his day job ok) so let’s not kinkshame.
You may be onto something.
I chalk it up to post traumatic stress relief – reaction.
This would be a good time for either the Dougie or Puck’s therapist to show up. Or Puck’s therapist as the Dougie. Or Tracee to appear as another monkey-bear hunter, or Colin to kiss Puck, on the grounds that he can’t possibly get himself into more trouble with Puck, and it might distract Puck, and I really give Colin too little credit, he can get into more trouble just standing still and mute!
He will stand still and mute. All other reactions require brain cells. He doesn’t have enough to spare.
Normal is a tricky word. It can mean typical, or it can mean orthogonal/intersecting at a right angle.
So are they acting normal for (typical), or normal to (90 degreees away from)?
Can it be neither?
Sure, but at that point the question is useless.
Nah, most of this family is pretty obtuse.
They are cute but not acute.
Toxic relationship much? I know physical violence is kind of always on the table with her, but yeesh.
Toxic relationship much. Muchly much.
Yeah, normal’s a little relative.
On the plus side, she’s not as mad as she was at the park.
Uh, sure. Can we get mayonaise on it?
See? Motherhood has mellowed her! She hasn’t expressly threatened him with physical harm! That’s … progress?
Just see if you can kinda toss both of them into the back of the van in mid-argument and start driving. Both will be tense enough from dishing out or receiving a berating. Should be like hefting a shouting and a quiet heavy plank.
Not a bad idea.
I’m the kinda guy who puts a neck brace on the possessed girl, and makes her take some antacids. You just work around the problem.
Man I didn’t realize how much I wanted to see Daphne lose her shit at Fred. 40 years of mansplaining the plot that everyone else figured out for him builds up on you I guess.
Too bad this isn’t the real Fred.
Daphne will be called “Scoob” from now on. :p
Better thee than me.
She would hate that. Though if it’s coming from Tyler, she might kinda be into it.
Didn’t hear any pearls of wisdom coming from her regarding the operation of vehicles.
Nor did I.
I wouldn’t expect her or Tyler to be any more fully enclued than is Colin, given the sad state of general upbringing in the so-called developed world, and in particular Kanadia and the Yewess.
This van has a clutch. The only people who understand clutches are boomers and Car Enthusiasts…
I’m a War Baby (just pre-boomer) and I understand; my sprog’s in his early 40s and he understands. I maintain that it’s a matter of parenting – exposing the young to a wide variety of experiences from which they can educate themselves. All young in the developed world should have the right to become autodidacts at an early age.
You forgot farm tractor enthusiasts.
I don’t really remember ever seeing Daphne tear in to Fred like this in the old Scooby Doo show…
…
…and now I kind of want to!
The closest thing may just be in the KISS movie. But there doesn’t seem to be much.
“Club sandwich of incompetence.” :)) I guess Papa is the toothpick holding it together.
The toothpick of competence. I like it.
@EG, thanks! 🙂 I wonder what the next chapter will be about,
There’s going to be a sort of “no big story arc” interlude after this where we have some smaller moments. But the big story arc after that will be an interesting one.
I’m told by more experienced automotive folks, that the trick to getting a flooded engine going again is to put the gas pedal all the way to the floor.
…Although that may be more in respect to modern, fuel-injected type engines (which started becoming standard around 1983-4, if you’re not sure what you have).
Hard to flood modern engines. Not impossible. But you really gotta try.
