The GREAT NOUN ADVENTURE RETURNS!
A year ago we did a big, weird noun-voting experience over on Patreon with my $5+ patrons and this year it came back with much fanfare! And now you get to see the bizarre results! It’s a pile of weird nouns just thrown into a blender. What will result? Well…
VOTE TO EXPOUND WITH A GREAT DEAL OF NOUNS!!!
As for this comic…
I’m not sure if this is the first time that Colin’s gotten legitimately angry. But I’m pretty sure it’s at least the first time that he’s gotten legitimately angry with good cause.
To continue from last week’s, “and they had the audacity to look surprised.” I’m thinking of Puck’s pupils rapidly changing from small to large sizes. Both eyes, out of sync.
She’s that blown out of the water.
But that’s just me, your milage may vary. Especially if Colin’s at the wheel.
It would be a little more reassuring if he actually looked at the road once in a while.
Did you ever notice that, like, in movies when they’re driving they don’t look at the road for a long time?
Especially in old movies where filming in a real car was impossible. They were just in a studio with a rear projection screen behind them.
As for the comics, eye lines are critical for conveying connection between characters, so even though Colin should rightly be looking at the road, I flub it for narrative clarity.
I throw a gem at you and you let it get in the net between your wide open legs. That’s almost as bad as being at the reading of the will for one Arthur J. Muldoon. No. That’s just as bad.
In the movie Tristram Shandy, there’s a scene in a car that was really being driven. At one point, one of the actors pointed at something and in the commentary, we learn that it was because the driver was REALLY bad and the first actor was actually afraid. But still had the presince of mind for his finger to be in shot. He didn’t want another take.
A moment of enlightenment – contrary to myth – does not always lead to bliss.
No. It usually leads to the opposite.
As a history buff, I will say that everyone sucks is the major lesson of history.
Indeed. I took lit and history, so I’m doubly pessimistic.
I think that a respiratory technician could technically agree with you there.
Oh hah.
“Wind doesn’t blow, it sucks.”
R. B. Fuller
I thought it was;
“Gravity is a farce, the earth sucks.”
Can’t remember where that one came from.
Considering literature is the last haven for those willing to speak candidly about the world? Yeah. Those of us who’ve spent any time studying it tend to have the most cynical outlook.
As an English teacher, I can report that my department consistently contains the cynics. The science teachers are always full of hopes and dreams and optimism. They’re almost always wrong too.
I guess that would be why Star Trek nerds tend to become engineers. But what popular sci-fi franchise tends to produce writers?
Dune.
did you know you wrote Robin instead of Puck in Panel 1?
Colin calls Puck by her real name usually. He is the only one who does this.
Is Colin hinting that instead of ripping Phoebe the terrible navigator, she should be ripping him the terrible car guy?
He’s certainly more comfortable as the target, I’d say.
I was going to say terrible husband, but I can’t remember if they ever did marry, even for a moment.
They talk like they’re married.
Not yet.
Ever?
Looks like Colin’s unleashed the “Dad voice”. It’s capable of defeating even Daphne sass.
Sometimes it is required, to use the “Dad Voice” on an adult. Sometimes and it’s quite alright to feel guilty about it later if you didn’t do it on purpose.* *voice of experience and just one of my many vocal shames.
Not defeating but countering, yes.
I’m sorry kid, but Colin is correct and that is the moral of life. The “Big SECRET” moral of life…the trick is to try to suck a little less today than you did yesterday.
Or at least try not to suck ALL THE TIME.
Exactly.
This was absolutely brilliant! “Everybody sucks!” As a bunch they suck, but they suck with love…wait, that really sounded wrong. Oh well.
It sounded wrong but it felt so right.
When The Colin is correct, The Colin is CORRECT! Salute The Colin!
It happens so rarely!
Not only did he have good cause based on Puck’s final expression I would say that he won this round. That is if this round can be much of a win since they are still lost somewhere.
Nah, not lost. It was an endless road with no real turns or intersections. So just turn around and they’ll get back to the expressway eventually.
But they’ll miss the Con that’s just down the road a bit farther! And is just getting out.
Colin scores points in our hearts for this, but something tells me that he will pay dearly for this. A pyrrhic victory for poor Colin.
Maybe, but based on the drawings, I think Robin realized that he’s right and she was out of line.
Maybe? We shall see.
Self awareness sucks
and yes, it took me all night to come up with that response, thank you for asking!
It can also be liberating.
Colin finally snapped.
The look on Robin’s face is either “Holy shite! He’s right!” Or “I am so turned on right now!”
Might it be both?
The baby is like, “sleeping to the sounds of yelling…..my lullaby”….
What’s that Bane quote? “You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it. Molded by it.”
Well, the baby seems all right. But it’s a pretty low bar.
Oh. Daphne said that. That changes things a bit.
Yes, it can. You’re still a teen, you haven’t learned that yet.
Daphne still has much to learn, as cynical and world-weary as she is.
The lesson here is that we all suck together.
At least we have company.
