For those unfamiliar with the concept of a baby pool, it’s a group bet where a number of people place wagers on the birth date of a baby, or the gender and weight, or some such combination. Usually the winner gets 50% of the take and the other 50% goes to the parents, but I have a feeling Daphne’s baby pool wouldn’t be so charitable. I’m also not really sure who would be placing bets in this particular baby pool. Satan, perhaps?

And I think that Daphne is sincere on both counts. That Puck has been a great parent all of those years and that Daphne wants to win the baby pool. Now she can lounge around outside in a bikini in the water and lord it over Colin and Puck.
Yeah, I know better than that. She’d invite Scott Pilgrim over too, and Geddy Lee.
Accurate on all points except the bikini. She’d draw the line at a tasteful tankini, perhaps.
I see her as a “tank top and shorts” type, myself. Daphne doesn’t seem like the sexy type, after all.
Phoebe has proven that she IS the sexy type; from the shirts she wears to the times she HAS appeared in a bikini. In both the comic and voting incentives.
Don’t know where you’ve been, but the sexy type is defined by the eye of the beholder. Anyway, I wasn’t suggesting the sexy type, or that she was going outside to be a sexy beast.
I was suggesting that she’d take up most of the pool, either on her own or with Taylor/Tyler and bad mouth the others in the house while plotting her next money making adventure and shoving Tyler’s face to the side when she’s getting to aware of his ogling so to speak.
Yeah, that all sounds very likely.
By “sexy type” I mean “I like eyes on me” type. Phoebe is that type; Daphne strikes me as the “I don’t care what people think of me, or how they look at me, and I’m going to dress how I want and act how I want.”
Though how much of that is true self confidence and how much is teenage posturing is up to Gecko.
Phoebe has that same attitude. She wears that howler’s uniform, and wears feather boas when ever, or at least in college.
Daphne, in my opinion, is street tough and doesn’t give a damn what most people, save a few, actually and honestly think. I don’t think we’ve seen that person or persons yet. However, I think that Daphne and Phoebe fit into the same category.
I would tend to argue that Phoebe is more broad spectrum, whereas Daphne is only for a select few. Introvert vs. Extrovert.
You are astute. Maybe you need to open up your own psychotherapy/hotdog business.
This whole conversation lives in some seriously unpleasant territory.
Pool… You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Actually it refers to a pool of money not water
You suck. You know that, right?
Yeah, I kind of did that on purpose you know. But I suppose that it’s primarily because that it seems that the comic goes online sometime after gecko gets home from teaching.
I’m off for the summer, dude. And where I am (EST), it’s 10:00 at night. It always goes live between 9:00 and 10:00 EST on Monday. Always.
But I’ll tell you something. I didn’t do to be smug or anything, but just to remind you that there are worse things out there than someone typing “First”.
If everyone were to comment, then I would be the first one to be recognized for seeing this new piece of artwork, thought, work, story and enjoy it and such.
I don’t know why, but the phrase, “Here they be Monsters.” popped into my head. I don’t know, I suppose statistically that there is something happening within five miles of your location at this time. Let me see, five mile radius, area of a circle is Pi*radius squared. Area = 3.14159267… X 25. Area is equal to approximately 78.54 square miles of area. Which would be increased for multi residential buildings, the number of people that is. But I don’t know where you are, and I’m going to keep it that way.
So, in that way, I’m one less person to worry about.
On the voting incentives, one question. Who has been done? I know Data and Wesley Crusher. I know this week’s too. Ain’t gonna spoil that one dude. But who have been the previous characters. Do me and gecko a favor and don’t say the Puck character, but the Star Trek TNG character, okay?
Data, Wesley Crusher, Puck as Beverly Crusher, and now Colin as Commander Riker.
I’m happy to provide spoilers. First was Sigmund as Picard, then Puck as Beverly Crusher, then Daphne as Wesley with Tyler as Data, and that brings us to this week’s … excitement.
Oh, how can I forget Captain Picard?
Well, I’m not a Star Trek fan, that’s why.
Still, it’s Patrick Stewart. Charles flippin’ Xavier!
Patrick Stewart IS Picard. No question. Charles Xavier was just an afterthought.
But Prince John does make it so!
Okay, I got the wrong name from “Men in Tights.”
Good ol’ Daphne! Always reassuring to know where her priorities are…
At least she’s consistent.
I think panel 4 for Daphne is just her trying to maintain her self image, and panel 3 is how she really feels.
I actually think you’re right.
And something I just remembered that I had realized, but didn’t get a chance to until now; whenever Puck is either sick(in the original run) or in a hospital gown for some reason, her left shoulder is bared. Go through all the comics, even the original run, and you’ll see.
And I don’t count Puck in the first four and final couple of comic of the original run, when her right shoulder is exposed. That’s her depressed, not physically ill.
An a brighter note, 4 comics and counting until the “big day.”
True. It’s a visual nod to the Blondie comics. Blondie’s always got a strap falling down on one side, and I find that tease to be rather amusing.
Nerd Mode On:
I actually noticed that on a night I couldn’t sleep. It was the week after the ice chips comic was new, and I went back and saw the left shoulder exposed, and I was like “Oh, it’s the throes of giving birth that’s caused that.”
And then I hit the random button, and saw the “caffeine withdrawal” comics, and lo and behold, left shoulder exposed there too. And I thought, “Wait, is it always the LEFT shoulder that’s exposed?” So, I hit the first button.
And it shows the right shoulder exposed in Puck’s debut. “Damn. Must be something Gecko is doing now.” And I think “Well, is it consistently on the right shoulder back then?” So I’m flipping through the comics from that point, in order. Right shoulder, right shoulder, right shoulder, (all same day in timeline), nothing, nothing, nothing, etc…left shoulder when Puck is sick. “Damn. Well, let’s see if THIS becomes a trend.” Nothing, nothing, nothing, etc…Puck 80, right shoulder again. So I’m like “Okay, Puck is sick or hospitalized, her left shoulder gets exposed. When she’s depressed, right shoulder.”
So that’s how I came to that conclusion. Strange where your mind wanders when you have sleep dep.
As for why I waited until now to say anything? Well, by the time I realized it, Puck was out of the comic, and would be so for a few weeks. So I’ve been waiting until this week’s comic, where Puck is once again in the comic with her left shoulder exposed, to bring that up. Three weeks now.
I am a true nerd. 🙂
As for what shoulder is exposed, that’s just totally random. I think I favor the left, but the framing of the first strip worked better with the right, so I went right. And strip 80 was emulating strip 1, so it was the right again. But all other times it’s the left. Make sense?
I’ve noticed that too, and I hadn’t thought of 80 emulating 1, though it truly does until the cheesecake at the end.
And now Gecko draws a strip where the first frame is the left shoulder down, the second frame, the right shoulder is down instead. The third frame, neither shoulder is down, and the fourth frame, there are no shoulder straps period and you wonder how the top stays up just to mess with Hitokiri.
Don’t give me any ideas…
Yeah, I don’t think that the Gecko is to happy with fan fiction upsetting the story lines. And I’m not to sure about him being able to offer 15% on car insurance.
Well, that’s the great thing about fan fiction: it’s non-canonical, and has no bearing on the story line!
So, if I were to buy car insurance from Daphne, I could save 30% or more? And expect my car to be stolen sometime later and then split some of the insurance money with Daphne afterwards and get a NEW car?!?
Awesome.
Most people realize they can’t do it well before they’re in as deep as Puck has gotten…
Yeah, she doesn’t have a choice at this point in the proceedings, does she?
1 billion in 1804 2 billion in 1927 3 billion in 1960 4 billion in 1974 5 billion in 1987 6 billion in 1999 and 7 billion in 2011.Stop having large families and the people bomb problem will cease to exist. It’s that simple.
Babies babies babies! Everyone have more babies!
Yeah, see, we’re going to need you to come in on Saturday and work overtime in order to catch up, kay? Oh, and come in on Sunday too.
What does that even mean, anyway? Is it an in joke that nobody but you and your personal circle would get? Or is it just a reference to a tv show I just don’t watch.
Office Space. If you haven’t seen it, see it. If you work in an office building, see it tonight.
No wonder I didn’t recognize that quote then; I never liked that movie.
Yeah, see, I’m going to need you to move your desk downstairs into the basement.
Just don’t take my stapler, or Imma burn the building down.
*laughs helplessly*
Oh, Daphne. ^^; Sincerity and greed in one package. Let’s just hope it helps Puck get through this alright.
Sincerely greedy too!
The only thing the last panel is missing is the record scratch sound effect during Daphne’s last line.
Before reading that, I kept hearing the score from Platoon after her rousing words. 😀
I wish I knew how to depict a record scratch through onomatopoeia. Maybe “Kraoot-roooouuuuuieeeep!” Enh, on second thought, I could just go with “RECORD SCRATCH!”
Carooookerreeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzeep
I prefer the “Schriiiip!” onomatopoeia for the record scratch, myself.
I was just thinking of “Detroit Rock City”
I think that’s the ‘my underwear just split’ sound.
How about “Kaschriiip!” then?
Better…
In Strikeforce Morituri the longest lasting Morituri was Blackthorne who because of pregnancy and childbirth died 15 months after undergoing the Morituri process.
Wow, I thought that it was Chernobly and McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets Sweet and Sour sauce guzzled by the gallon.
NOw to wait for like 4 weeks until the half human half fairy baby is born.
$5 (IN American money) says they name it something fairylike.
Now my names Johnny, and it might be a sin.
I’ll take that bet, you’re gonna regret,
because I’m the best there’s ever been.
Oh, wait, the quotation doesn’t match. Sorry.
I bet that you didn’t know that Maltus in space sector 3001 is currently so overpopulated that powdered birth control has been added to it’s water supply to keep it’s population numbers in check.
Wow, and I thought that space was barely full of any matter, because they had to travel at light speed to fill the bussard collectors with Helium.
Both Marathon and Backhand induced the deadly Morituri effect.
You’re not going to get Gecko to reference your comic, Greg. He’s never read it for one, so he’s have to buy dozens of comics to know about it. Even were he to want to buy them, he has kids in his house, and unless you’re buying comics for the kids, you can’t exactly justify the expense. And even then, comics from the 80 can cost 30 dollars or more, so even were Gecko to buy them FOR his kids, those are some expensive comics for a kid that’s just going to let them sit in a toybox and let them tear and get wet and all the other stuff that kids do to their comics.
So please, give it a rest. You’re not going to see references to that comic from ElectricGecko, because getting the comics aren’t going to easy for him, since he has young children.
And I thought that he was talking tennis and smacking John McEnroe.
Can’t it be both?
Please, let it be both.
