More hotdog guy here. For those that missed the earlier appearance of the hotdog guy, he doubles as Puck’s psychologist. The joke’s based on Freudian psychology. If you don’t know the first thing about Freudian psychology, well, I’m not about to explain it to you. Freud might say “Sometimes a hotdog is just a hotdog.” But he would be wrong, wouldn’t he?
For the record, my father-in-law’s a psychiatric counsellor, and he really liked this one.
An awful lot of things do get associated with sexual organs…
Food is a bit of a borderline thing though, since eating is right up there as far as core biological needs go… and it is just as common for things to register as food as like sex-things. Heck, it going both ways is probably how oral was invented.
To say nothing of police uniforms.
O_O
Do I want to know…? No, no I don’t.
Authoritarian power trips and civil rights violations can’t be a fetish for everyone! 😛
They are for a lot of people, though, sadly.
Don’t think we haven’t noticed the careful positioning/handling of the hot dogs in all five panels.
I didn’t pay much attention to detail back then, but I did pay attention to hotdog placement.
heh. Freudian psychology.
One of the things that I learned in Intro to Psych class (humanities elective) is that Freud was a pervert.
Yes. Yes he was. And he posited many nutty theories that, in retrospect, only really applied to weirdos like him.
Wasn’t Freud the one who thought EVERYTHING was sexual in nature? I mean, everything a person thought, said, dreamed, or did?
Pretty much, yes.
I’m not into psychiatry but I do remember reading that somewhere about him. (Personally, he impresses me as being a bit sexually repressed. LOL.)
If you read up on him, you will discover that Freud was a weird dude with many personal issues, which greatly influenced his theories. Basically his rundown of the psyche is not the breakdown of the standard human mind; rather it’s a detailed breakdown of Freud’s own somewhat demented mind. Interesting nonetheless.
I’m glad to know that my theories aren’t theories but facts. LOL.
‘Theory’ is kind of a flexible term in this world, and I’ve periodically declared various readers’ theories canon just for the fun of it.
