I personally think this is one of the funnier comics in the whole series. Panel two makes me chuckle every time I look at it, and it’s all due to Puck’s appearance: that near-death state of illness that we’ve all been in at some point in time.
I wanted this strip to play off that nebulous zone where romanticism hits reality. It usually occurs about a month or two into any serious relationship. The guy farts openly in the girl’s presence; the girl sends the guy out to get emergency ‘feminine products;’ someone vomits on someone else. It’s all the same. Does it kill the romance? Hardly. It just makes the romance a touch more realistic.
Dated alert: note the fact that Colin refers to watching a ‘video.’ Wow. So very, very 90’s.
Oh god, I almost died laughing. Absolutely love these comics!
I’m glad the humor works, even in these older comics.
so if puck is a ginger and being one myself, why is her skin tone so dark and orange. in fact why is the girl who was too pale to even sunbath in puck one the darkest character in puck two?
That’s a good question. For Puck’s skin tone, I don’t really have an answer other than the fact that I think I came up with the color value of her skin by going with what looked best in contrast with other colors on the design. For Phoebe’s incredibly pale skin tone, there IS an explanation; we … just haven’t gotten to it yet. (Puck’s not really supposed to look dark; her skin tone is more supposed to look medium. One factor may be the monitor you’re using. I’ve found the color values in my comic (because I color in pure RGB) are highly sensitive to the type of monitor. On some monitors, the comic looks really very dark. Which is a shame. Not sure how to fix that, really.)
How dated does it make you when you don’t even notice the use of “video” until the author points it out? Lol! Seriously, however, I just started reading and am getting a big kick out of the strip!
I still use the term ‘video’ with my kids when putting on a DVD and they look at me like I’m a weirdo.
Considering that “DVD” means “Digital Video Disc”, you’re not wrong when you say that…
@EG
Now that is weird.
“Film” can be wrong.
“Tape” can be wrong.
“Flic” – so wrong.
“Movie” sounds awfully dated – but is right.
But VIDEO will always be correct. It is a term independent of format.
After all, describe YOUTUBE without using the word “VIDEO”.
Well, it’s apt. Given the fact that ‘video’ literally means ‘I see’ in Latin.
@EG
Is it possible that when your “kids look at you like a weirdo”, it is not your terminology that draws the stares ?
Just sayin’.
Just put a SMURFS II disc in the player and you will be a hero-dad !
I do not like that movie.
@EG
yes, I know (snicker snacker)

Baldie just picked me up to pet me, and right there was the Hall Mirror.
Glancing at it, I suddenly realized why I have such an affinity for Gargamel and Azrael.
Amazing how an intelligent creature such as I could be in denial for so long….
Personally, my dad became “Hero-Dad” when he called me on my birthday. Oh, and he sent me a videotape of the first year of “Buffy” for my 12th birthday. That was pretty heroic, to me.
XD I sympathize. My sisters always say I look like a zombie when I get sick!
That applies to pretty much everyone. So don’t take it personally.
What in Danu’s name can make a fae sick?!
According to JRR Tolkien, the longing for the Undying Lands can.
@Susan
And week-old Sushi.
That works.
Hmf, if Maedrhos could be hung from the walls of Thangorodrim for eight years and survive, a little bad fish shouldn’t finish one off.
Y’know, if she were my girl, I think I’d first have to clean her off a bit so I could &* )@#^ on her. Then again, I’m a romantic.
Obviously.
WINONA RYDER RULES!!!
