Not much to say here. I’d like to say that I was above jokes featuring sexually predatory university professors, but apparently I wasn’t.
Dated alert: check out the beige monstrosity of a computer that Daphne is working on. Remember CRT monitors? Yeah, me neither.
By which the Daphne probably means it found the cameras by accident… or at most, got help.
Such naughty, naughty cameras. Why would a broom closet HAVE a camera anyway, other than for this purpose?
I have a computer screen like that
That’s called vintage, man. Hold onto that.
Remember them? HAH! I’m READING this on one, a 19″ Hitchai CM751 that is over 15 years old. I was encouraged to spend a lot on it, as a good monitor would last through multiple computers. With a .22mm dot pitch and 1600×1200 resolution, it is, and it has.
Whoa, that’s serious business. My brother (late in the CRT game) got a massive 21″ monitor. Few desks were big enough for it. Current market value? Negative thirty dollars.
Whoa. I just had a serious attack of nostalgia. We used to have a computer like that. Not sure what type it was, but it had that big box monitor. I used to play games on it as a kid.
Those big beige monstrosities were some good times. They cost five grand and didn’t do much, but the memories live forever. Too bad we all threw them out.
Ah, CRTs. I started on a Hercules screen (green on black), got a hand-me-down CGA screen for a month, and then got someone else’s hand-me-down VGA screen.
Of course, the Herc screen came with 2 floppy drives and no hard drive. You used the bottom drive as your data drive and the top one for your programs.
My first hard drive was a 20 meg MFM drive. I thought I’d never run out of room on that thing. Of course, Windows 3.1 took up about half of it…! 🙂
That was officially before my era. Well, I was alive then, but I had no computer. My first computer was a hand-me-down VIC-20. With no tape drive. Mostly useless, but I did have a book of BASIC video games that I could program. Fuuuuunnnnn?
I thought Daphne’s line in the last panel was a little more ambiguous than your commentary suggests. My first thought was maybe two of the profs were having an affair on campus; no predation involved.
Yeah, I suppose it could be that. Let’s say it’s that. That makes me feel better.
Sure they had broom closets. What do you think that the door between the bathrooms were for. Not very many brooms. Wide as all get out dust mops, water buckets, mops, rags, time clocks for each building. Okay, maybe one broom closet type thing per building that has the time clock. But definitely storage areas for custodial engineers. Sometimes, it’s where they hide the intranet cabling for each building. And through which halve of the graduate students in the building are downloading pirated stuff, or attempting to upload programs that the department bought by stealing the software key.
You know things.
