NEW VOTING INCENTIVE!!! ANIME-TYPE FUN!!!
Yes, this voting incentive is inspired by Ghost in the Shell! The anime! Or the manga! NOT the Hollywood movie! Because … I haven’t seen that one! And remember, this voting incentive was chosen by special fans who donate $5 or more a month! If you want to join their controlling ranks, HEAD ON OVER TO PATREON and join the select club!
VOTE BECAUSE MASAMUNE SHIROW IS RAD!!!
As for this comic…
There really is a place like this in my city: a huge hospital devoted entirely to cancer treatment. It’s grand and luxurious and they really do give you coffee and stuff. There’s nice Inuit art and soaring ceilings and wood trim, and it’s so nice that you almost forget for a few seconds that practically every poor sod walking in the door has cancer.
People are sent there from all over the place. I’ve sat in the waiting room with dudes from Timmins, and that’s 750 kms away. I just happened to be the fortunate dude who lived ten minutes away.
Hooray for the Voting Incentive !!
I wonder whose good idea that was.
Me too….
Phloebles: the rest of your jacket has gone where most anime characters’ noses go. Which means the weirdo Japanese writers’ reductionist imagination. Hope that undershirt top is thick enough to keep the girls warm, though the fact that I can see your umbilicus argues against it.
Major is basically a brain in an artificial body, so I doubt any of her clothes are designed for heat retention.
Good point. But then why that jacket?
Because she makes it look good. Why else would anyone wear a jacket that only covers their shoulders and arms?
Oh you and your wisdom.
If it is an organic brain, it needs heat. Lots of it. Otherwise the electrochemical reactions don’t work and piezoelectric reactions are for naught. If it’s cybernetic, forget what I said. I wouldn’t know. I abhor anime (and manga, I guess, though I don’t know the difference. Or want to know. People should have noses)
@Susan
Don’t sell GHOST IN THE SHELL – STAND ALONE COMPLEX short.
GITS is quite celebral, with just enough humor and action thrown in to appeal to a large audience.
The personalities are complex, and there is growth.
It’s not POKEMON !
Hey, don’t you badmouth Pokemon!
@EG, Marduk
EG chose a classic GITS look for Major.
That outfit is so HOT my eyeballs are on FIRE !
Yet there is very little skin showing, at least by Modern Kardashian Standards (which ain’t sayin’ much, granted).
And the teeny Jacket is SO fine !
@EG
“Hey, don’t you badmouth Pokemon!”
Hmmf ! You’re not my BOSS !
(or are you ?)
Don’t you know that warmth and thickness of clothing in movies are not at all related? Nor in sexy phot shoots. Witness Kate Upton’s Antarctic photo shoot in a bikini.
look at the warmth of wetsuits theyre not thick at all ! yet very warm just think nano tech ! (or insert scifi not real technology here)
EXACTLY!
Hi-Tech warmth is no biggie.
Hi-Tech COOLING is what I’d like.
Put on a COOL-SUIT and be comfortable outside even on a 100F day !
Haven’t checked out the Cool Pillows at Amazon, hey?
https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00OPH8UNI/ezvid02-20
I got one of those babies for my last birthday
@Susan
Oooooooo……
I’ll ask Baldie to buy me one.
(I’ll even promise not to knead it)
nanotech *is* a real technology.
I haven’t seen the movie either, but the trailers seem to indicate that even that much jacket has gone missing completely!
Yes. And so a great, weird fashion statement is lost in translation.
Ohh, hot Devil girl with a gun, always a great incentive.
I wouldn’t be the first to play that card, I guess.
I just done visiting Mars, UAC, Counselor Swann, Dr. Bert older and Hell. Not once did I see a hot devil girl with a gun.
Well, you see something new every day, I guess.
Imagine reading all of that in the brochure: “A place of kindness, caring, comfort, and SOOOOOO much cancer.”
(._.; )
You have to admit that your curiosity would probably be piqued.
I just found out what I was thinking where I saw your joke at, http://grrlpowercomic.com/archives/149
Great minds sorta kinda think alike.
Yay, a compliment! !
Well. She is not easily fazed.
OR she’s just a weirdo.
Like Funderland, only with cancer instead of fun?
Hopefully less chaos, too.
EXACTLY!
Maybe Daffy will try to heist a mesothelioma
Probably low market value.
> nice Inuit
Have you checked? Could be Yupik or Iñupiat, too.
No real need to check. I’m in Canada, and pretty much all Canadian Arctic natives fall under the ‘Inuit’ umbrella, to my understanding. And they wouldn’t get art from outside Canada, because Canada is all “Up with Canada!”
The first pic looked fairly high-tech compared to what’s normally seen in Puck to the point I initially thought I was reading the wrong comic until I saw Colin’s face. So that’s impressive.
I’m not sure why, but I have a feeling they don’t mention that a lot of people that come there have cancer in the brochure, either.
Still, who am I to judge, as long as it works?
Well, I sometimes need to pull out all the stops for background shots. Sometimes. Not often.
Looks a lot nicer than the place im taking my wife.
Well, it’s the benefit of Canadian healthcare: ridiculously poor people like Colin can go to places like this.
My wife works for a Cancer Center and their lobby looks almost exactly like how this is drawn!
Well, maybe there’s a standard model for these things. It really wouldn’t surprise me.
I have visited the MD Anderson Center in Houston. It is even swankier than that.
Despite the swank, I don’t feel the need to visit.
Heh, I was accompanying a patient. Yeah, it’s not exactly a tourist attraction
The country they’re talking about *is* Canada still, right?
I don’t blame Colin for being impressed.
That’s what I expect a luxury prison to look like.
??????
This arc reminds me a bit of the Peanuts special “Why, Charlie Brown, Why?” a special in which Schulz may be channeling some of his experiences with the passing of his mother.

I did not know about the existence of that special. Though I don’t really care to watch it. The inherent preachy component of Peanuts, combined with that topic, might sort of annoy me.
@EG
There are FORTY-SEVEN Peanuts Specials !
(I would have guessed two)
Careful with that voting incentive. You wouldn’t want to be accused of “devil-washing” a Japanese character 😛
Oh nooooooo!
In defence, though, it’s cosplay. Cosplay should know no racial boundary. Unless you try to make the elements of a character’s race part of the costume. Then no.
I haven’t seen the GitS movie myself, but I am a HUGE fan of the stuff that came from Japan. I recognize the voting incentive as Motoko’s outfit from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig. (Yes, non fans, the name was that long. I’ll explain the naming convention as the voting incentives get released.) Which is actually her most tame “civilian”outfit out of all the animated media (she actually has normal looking clothes in the original comic from the 1989-1990 there, in addition to some racy stuff that you don’t see animated).
I’m guessing you’re going to go with the Stand Alone Complex saga’s outfits, since those are the most iconic that you can get away with in a comic like this?
I am going with the “google ‘Ghost in the Shell’ and choose a top-ranked pic that looks cool” approach. Honestly, for a lot of these cosplay pics, my best reference pics are usually of high-end toys, because promo sites love to show the figure in full detail and from multiple angles. It’s harder to get a good sense of an outfit’s design from movie stills.
Luxury prisons actually exist and they look a bit like this cancer treatment center that Colin is at.
Kindness, caring, comfort, and yes, cancer… but to be fair they’re trying to get rid of that last one…. it’s sorta their thing…
Very true. So I guess we can’t really hold that against them.
Stella Maxwell joins Phloebles and Major Whoosis in the Partial Jacket Club: http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/s565/Lilyblack1/Long%20legs_zpssaomtouy.jpg
Couldn’t see the pic because Photobucket has become a monstrous, broken mess of evil.
ditto
IMGUR is the solution
Okay, I signed in with Imgur. Hope y’all like this: http://i.imgur.com/mrHGlz0.jpg
@Susan
It’s TRACEEE !!!!!!
(thanks 😛 )
Only if Tracee gave up her job as Satan’s mistress and became a Victoria’s Secret model, but I am sure the IQ is very similar 😛
You are welcome. This came in a VS e-mail and I couldn’t resist
@Susan
I was really hoping that AD would say “BRAS HALF-OFF”, so my quip could be easy and hackneyed.
But somehow Advertisers have become wise to me.
(sigh)
She’s too thin to be Tracee.
@EG
True enough.
There’s a LOT of TRACEEE to be loved !
There could be a lot more, tbh; there’s something of a shortage of plus-size ladies in comics as a whole. 😛
@Buggle
Well, TRACEEE is certainly plus-size in (ahem) certain areas !
There’s a power of ’em in Weregeek: http://www.weregeek.com/2017/07/28/
@Susan
Yes, TRACEEE has a Hi-IQ. That is, she is Incredibly Quick on taking up the latest Fashions !
Especially fashions that require a minimum of sewing.
(Hah! This cat is not so easily stumped for a clever retort !)
Oh, yeah? Give me one example of a recent style Tracee has adopted. Heavy boots, for instance, or tall sandals
Are you saying that Tracee is out of fashion? Because she is. I actually try to generally avoid the latest fashion trends, if only to slightly lessen the ‘dated’ factor. Also, I don’t read Vogue that much.
Nah, I am just pricking Salem around, if you mean I think Tracee is dowdy. But she is no fashionista, to be sure
@Susan
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Take That !
She definitely is no fashionista. That word is far too elegant for her.
@EG
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR
You Too !
*Imagines Tracee in a fashion remake show* “And here is how she looked before our fashion conscious team worked her over”
@Susan
Thank goodness your (no doubt horrid) LINK is not being displayed.
TRACEEE is an Innocent Angel sent from Heaven to redeem Satan’s Soul !
Geck, I honestly thought you drawing a “Plain Jane” wasn’t capable of your arsenal….only hot ones….
I stand corrected. 😮
What, just ’cause this one’s wearing a cardigan, she’s suddenly a ‘Plain Jane’? Man, what is it that this world has against cardigans?!?
750 km= 470 mi.
That’s just a thing I do.
Also, kilometers?
It’s Canada, man. We do kilometres up here.
Yeah, but I spent WAY too much time prgramming and trying to hauk (sp.?) a unit conversion app. I’ve picked some odd habits.
And I just like that scene in How I Met your Mother.
