JULY VOTING INCENTIVE UP NOW!
I felt like drawing a new pic of Puck. So I did. And I put it on a shirt! If you want the shirt, you can get it (and other shirts) RIGHT HERE! If you just want to see the pic, though, vote for Puck on TWC!
VOTE TO BE SO VERY, VERY KIND!
As for this comic…
Panel four represents (I think) the first time that anyone has ever referred to a puck of the non-fairy variety. That is all.
I love the direction this is going, but its also concerning. The last thing we need is another potentially evil girl for Daph to team up with. It almost looked like she’d learn something about herself and grow at the start, but now there’s a chance she just gets another matching friend. Though either way its funny, so nose in the fire, right?
Well, I don’t think we’ve seen ANY indication that Hannah is evil. Hannah is a straight shooter and a clear thinker. Not evil, though. Not evil at all.
….suuuuuuuure
I think I understand the reference.
It’s that Daffy’s soul is small, round, hard as nails and black as coal ?
Or is that Robin’s soul ?
You’re overthinking hockey metaphors. Hockey metaphors are made because hockey. Like baseball metaphors are made because baseball. Like if you said, “You really hit a home run on that one!” the person wouldn’t be questioning why the connection to baseball might be particularly apt in this scenario. It’s CULTURAL PERMEATION.
Your “hover / flyover” message rings true with Northern Minnesotans as well. ha. Literally chuckled out loud at that.
Minnesotans and Wisconsinites are all honorary Canadians. The accent is closer than most people realize and the mentality is very similar.
@EG
So Robin and Daffy’s souls are small, round, hard as nails and black as coal.
That does make sense !
Robin is a ginger. She has on soul.
*no
Oh I really like her.
Me too.
Just to repeat my comment from last week… I totally want to adopt Hannah!!!
Looks like Daphne now has her “Pheobe”, only a very intelligent, well grounded one. So now the question is, does Hannah elevate Daphne, or does Daphne corrupt Hannah?
Or both?
Not sure she’ll rise to a role as prominent as Phoebe, but I think there’s a good chance she’ll appear more. As you noted, she’s a good counterbalance to Daphne. Daphne has Puck and Phoebe and Colin, but the fact that they’re more parental figures means that she can more easily dismiss them. She’s had Tyler, but the power dynamic there has always been in Daphne’s favor, so she’s never had to actually consider his advice either. With Hannah, though, it might be a little different.
Tyler does *not* know what’s about to hit him.
The two girls team up?
He’s toast.
Well, it all depends on what their chosen outcome is. That the girls will win is inevitable. But that’s not always a bad thing.
Than what do her ears hear than?
Bull$#!+ is an impressive thing, because you can see, hear, smell, feel and taste it. It’s an omnisensory experience!
She takes a genuine interest in people and figures out a way to ut them at ease. My god, nice people can be insidious!
Flee Daphne! You’re in danger!
what do you call it when you have a small, skinny guy in goal who doesn’t let anything by them? Fast hands? Fast stick? being really GOOD? Whatever it is, that’s her right there.
I don’t think Daph’s admitted to anyone yet how much this matters to her. Good. First step to getting what you want is know what the heck it is.
Those ears are vary interestingly drawn. Which? The left.
You are right on all counts here. And as for the ears, I honestly just generate Daphne’s ears by intuition more than anything. Sometimes I draw them and think, “Nah, that’s not right,” then I draw them again. It sometimes ends up with interesting results.
I buy that.
So Hannah has fast hands or a fast stick? Good, I’m glad to know a bit more of the lingo.
Love the word play. Speaking of playful words, I got my Chutzpah shirt yesterday and I lovin’ it! I have been wanting a shirt for a long time now and couldn’t decide on which one. Well, you made it too easy.
So you’re the one who ordered it! Thanks! And cool! You are currently the only person on the planet who owns one. I’ve ordered one too, but I haven’t gotten it yet. When it does arrive, we can be shirt brothers.
Wow hockey metaphors. Could Daphne be getting a new BFF? A Phoebe to Daphne’s Puck?
Will Tim Horton’s ever gain enough of a foothold to be come a region wide name in the U.S.?
Will another TV show ever use cake for a ramp in a car stunt in the opening credits?
Answers: maybe, no, and probably, in that order.
I think the “typical male miscommunication” is really Daphne’s fault.
Yeah, but when you’re trying to make nice with a girl, you say it’s probably his fault.
We’re good for that.
The “typical male miscommunication” is when male takes something as said instead of guessing the hidden meaning. Compare to this conversation.
Exactly.
Hannah takes no guff! And the best part is that Daphne clearly appreciates it.
No guff taken! None asked for.
Oh dear. They’re bonding. Alert the fire department.
Is this not potentially putting the fire out?
So how many Pucks are there to catch?
Depends on the game. But in this comic, just one.
Light bulb.
Yep that totally just happened, I feel silly
What did?
Isn’t that why Robin’s nickname is Puck? After hockey puck? Because you’re Canadian?
It’s more because I’m a Shakespeare guy.
Unrelated to this week’s strip, but I purchased 2 stickers from you Gecko!!! They’ll go straight on my computer when I get them.
So YOU’RE the one who bought the stickers. I was wondering who that was. I don’t sell many stickers. As in, I think those are the first stickers I’ve ever sold. Let me know what they’re like!
Lol, I didn’t have enough for a T-shirt, and I only have one sticker on my laptop thus far. I like to support indie artists, I like to show off merch, and I can afford stickers!!!!
My mom thought “Kneel before Sod” was a reference to kneeling before God. Being a staunch pagan, she disapproved.
Haven’t met many staunch pagans in my time.
Well I’m a not-so-staunch pagan, born and raised. We’re an odd sort.
I can tell by Daphne’s sly expression in panel three, that she isn’t speaking completely truthfully. I wonder how Hannah could tell the same thingl.
Hannah probably already knew the lay of the land. So when Daphne contradicted what she already knew to be true, you don’t need the visual cues. Plus, I’m sure the feigned calm would come through in the voice.
Heh… the pucks metaphor gets a bit weird when her mom’s name is actually Puck (and Robin Goodfellow, but I get the impression that one’s mostly for filling out paperwork.)
…Wait… is the reason this comic titled “Puck” and not “Robin Goodfellow” actually because its creator is a hockey-loving Canadian? Have I peeled back the layers of this onion and found a Bulldogs jersey inside???
Mind… blown…
I hate hockey. Just saying.
