VALENTINE’S DAY CAT STUFF! AGAIN?
Last year we somehow got on this ‘Valentine Cats’ thing, and it’s back for some reason. A new voting incentive pic is going to be popping up each week, so…
VOTE FOR OLD DEUTERONOMY’S SAKE!!!
As for this comic…
I don’t really like putting the red hair on Phoebe. It doesn’t look right. And it feels wrong to draw.
Phoebe’s just mad that Puck can pull it off better.
Sorry Phoebe, you were never going to beat a natural ranga here.
Especially if she wears clothing more fitting her own interests/styles than the character’s.
Puck has won THIS round, but there will be more to come…
many, many more
Well, maybe not many. I don’t think Phoebe has what it takes for prolonged trench warfare.
Uh oh. You used the ‘r’ word.
Phoebe has to do something about that tail and those horns.
Daphne (the Scooby D.)does not have the horns or tails, though she earns them on a regular basis
Yeah, it just ruins the look.
Colin! You are in the WRONG PLACE!! Dead between two women about to fight is dead indeed!

P.S. I appreciate Phoebe wants to be Daphne b/c Daphne is “The Hot One” (except to book nerds) but really, she should go as Sexy Velma because, as you say, red head just does not suit her as well as it does Puck. Phoebe with her Glasses Of Innocence and a flirty little Velma skirt could do a lot of damage to a lot of hearts.
“Except to book nerds” should read “except to everyone on the Internet” because that seems to be the standard reply. Velma’s star has slowly risen thanks to the ascendant nature of nerd culture.
C’mon Phoebs. You maintain the sexy with glasses. Going with Velma will reveal the lie that is the stereotype that a woman can’t be beautiful if they wear glasses and pin their hair up.
She does love the glasses, doesn’t she?
I know someone who might be quite happy to take on a WordPress challenge. Her company does WordPress site maintenance (and repairs) among other things, and she recently mentioned having time for new clients.
If you can see commenters’ emails, send me a note and I’ll put you in contact, or I could put a URL here (but I’m not the sort of person to do that uninvited).
Thanks for letting me know. When I looked up a forum with someone posting about a similar problem, he eventually answered, “I went to bed and when I woke up it was working.” And that happened exactly the same with me. I think it’s not a WordPress error; I think it was my site host having problems, which seems to happen a lot.
In the votey: another CATS valentine’s day?
You have no chance to survive make your time. 🙂

They just keep coming.
I elieve in Ebay they call that “sniping”.
This is more like those dudes who steal your Amazon delivery off your doorstep.
Sounds like a book title: “Fred Has Two Daphnes.”
I think that’s an entirely different kind of book.
Two or three different kinds of books.
All interesting.
Tough choice, Phoebe’s face looks more like Dapnhe’s, but she also already wears glasses.
Eh, doesn’t bother me either way, I’m way more of a Velma man.
Agreed. Based on facial features, Puck is definitely a Velma and Phoebe is a Daphne. But that only goes so far.
WoW ! Where to begin ?
TRACEEE is the PussyKat par excellence !!
And Robin really does look much sexier in her new hairstyle (as does Colin, IMHO).
Next time they go “Hunting Centipedes” they may even forget who they are really with !
Bottom Line: It’s Halloween in February !
You like the Daphne hair on Puck? Interesting. I’m not against it.
@EG
I find Daphne-Hair on Robin most definitely an improvement.
And on Phoebe as well. Still, if only Phoebe could pull her hair together so as to not be parted by her horns.
Like right here:
Phe-Buck
This weeks comic is especially detailed.
Phoebe’s look really comes together – she looks great in Daphne -Hair as well.
It is rarely appreciated (at least by men) how very different men’s and women’s clothing can be, even down to details.
For instance:
Belts feed thru the pants loops in opposite directions (in this case, Phoebe’s is done properly).
Shirts / Blouses have the Buttons and Buttonholes on opposite sides. Oddly enough this does not always apply to zippers.
Women’s pants / slacks / jeans have pockets that are absurdly shallow – quite nearly vestigial.
And the parts clothing covers (sometimes just barely), are different as well.
I do actually try to pay attention to button direction on clothing for men and women. I don’t always get it right, but it almost always requires me to physically check my own shirt or pants because it NEVER feels intuitive.
I will say, though, that after years and years of this comic, and years and years of living with a woman, and years and years of doing laundry, I feel like I have a good handle on women’s clothes. What often shocks me, honestly, is how small women’s clothing often is. Obviously this doesn’t apply to all women, but in my case, it’s pretty dramatic. I’m a tall(ish) guy with a fairly typical frame; I wear large shirts. My wife is pretty much the same height and build as Puck. And her shirts are honestly about a tenth the weight of my shirts. When I’m doing the laundry, they often look like doll clothes next to my giant acres of shirt fabric.
I think, on one level at least, the material is thinner.
It’s also . . . briefer. In that, pants often end higher up the leg. And it’s not as dense. It all adds up.
But yeah, I know I’m not the intended audience and that Phoebe enjoys showing off, but I like you designs of women’s cloths. And your designs for stuff to put on t-shirts.
I think the intended audience is everyone. So that would certainly include you.
Well, sterotypically, the men in art who are into women’s clothing tend to be . . . not people who would be attracted to the occupants of said clothing. I don’t get it. I mean, yes, gay men can sertainly design for women. But why does nartive art so rarely have straight men designing for women?
We like women too. We’re famous for it. I mean, I thinking having all hetero-male fashion designers is also unrealistic, but so is having none.
Thoughts:
1) I think there’s just the historical precedent. Once upon a time, all things connected to women’s clothing were viewed as basically beneath men, or slightly tawdry for men to associate with, or effete, and the end result was that the only men who accepted the challenge were ones who didn’t care about such goofy societal rules. Those men tended to be gay, and the culture kinda grew from there.
2) I know from anecdotal evidence that girls working in fashion don’t like getting leered at. I mean, it makes sense. And there’s always a certain level of leering that is part of that world, but many models report feeling far more comfortable around teams made of women and gay men when you’re half-dressed and such.
3) I know from personal experience that straight guys tend to design clothing that women hate. I have people compliment me on my clothing designs all the time. NONE OF THEM are women. I know my wife thinks that the clothing I design is patently insane and she usually takes the approach of not saying anything at all because she has nothing good to say. So if I were a fashion designer, no women would buy my clothes. Some men might buy the clothes for unhappy women, but that doesn’t make for a successful business model now. Witness the slow, inexorable decline of Victoria’s Secret, which is being utterly obliterated by lingerie shops that are selling products designed by women for women.
“3) I know from personal experience that straight guys tend to design clothing that women hate.”
Oh. I guess that would do it.
@Frank Harr
Oh darn.
I read nartive art and thought there was a word I’d never heard of before.
But I checked online, and my search for nartive art was futile.
Did you mean a similar phrase, and nartive art is a typo ?
Or is nartive art a deep, technical term, that only professioanl fashion designers use ?
“NONE OF THEM are women.”
That could be why Phoebe’s design work isn’t selling really well.
Ugh … it will be snowing again today in New England.
Hate it – Hate it – Hate it
EG and his friends are so lucky they never have to deal with snow in Canada.
The most inconvenient aspect of his daily living is picking up the errant Cocoanuts strewn about the patio.
The east coast just seems to be getting hammered this year with snow. Where I am, it’s honestly been a fairly mild and snow-free winter. We had a light fall last night. It was that fluffy snow that weighs practically nothing. It took literally five minutes to shovel my large driveway because it weighed less than packing peanuts.
I don’t want to get too comfy, though, because for the past few winters, the REAL winter didn’t start around here until mid-February, which is usually when winter should start winding down. Two or three years ago, the major blizzards carried right through into late April, even May, and all the gardeners were starting to really panic. Hopefully there won’t be a repeat this year.
@EG
but …
You know the old saying: “A rolling cocoanut gathers no fluff.”
I could get used to Phoebe’s new look, after all, it’s still Phoebe.
I’m not sure I could.
Oh, yeah, that’s right. I’d forgotten about that. So had Colin.
I don’t think either could bull Velma oft. It’s too hard. They don’t got it in ’em. That’s why they both want to be Daphne, it’s easier.
The other Daphne could do Velma, but I think she’s got plans already.
What else are me and Collin forgetting? What could it possibly be?
I didn’t even know Colin forgot something. So include me in that boat.
I never thought Velma could be hot. Then Linda Cardelini changed all that. Daphne could be _that_ Velma.
I will state that the casting for that movie was very wrong. In a right way, of course, but still.
Same here. I actually remember watching it thinking, “Why would they get Sam from ER to play Velma? This is so wrong.” But I could not stop watching…
Because in Hollywood, average-looking young women don’t exist. They look around when casting for nerds or outcasts, and they say, ”Oh well. Guess we’ll just have to hire another super model and give her a cardigan or something.”
Ah nuts. Did I say Daphne? I meant Phoebe. My brain is stuck what with all the wannabe Daphnes on the page. Phoebe can be Hot Velma.
Maybe when the Puck movie gets made (believe!), Linda Cardellini can play Phoebe and bring it all full circle.
There’s Daphnetally going to be some conflict here.
Four stars to you, sir. That was magnificently terrible.
@EG
Brilliant !
@Adam Cat
Brilliant !
Naughty Puck! 😉
Naughty, naughty Tracee! (She’s so competitive!);)
Hey, when you can take home gold, why not compete?
Sorry, typo. It’s “Cardellini”
I caught up 😀 Didn’t take me long really 🙂 I wanted to comment on some of the older comics but it’s probably not ethical or it’s probably against comic code.
Well, you definitely don’t want to fall afoul of the comics code authority. They have power…
Ehhhh collen could sell pheobe on it like this just tell her she will still be hotter as velma but does he have the balls and will he keep them if he does so
He has one ball. And he’s rather possessive of it. So … let’s not live dangerously.
How’s the weather up there?
Snowy. Blizzard is coming our way. After the last blizzard two days ago. Fun stuff.
