NEW YEAR! NEW INCENTIVE! NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS!!!
Time to turn over a new leaf and come up with some New Year’s resolutions!
VOTE FOR A NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!!!
As for this comic…
This was not the actual punch line I was planning on for this comic. The original gag had some standard sitcom-type joke about shopping and day drinking, but then this joke emerged in my mind and just seemed intrinsically funnier to me.
Note that there are actually not many Denny’s restaurants in the Hamilton area. There is only one (hence Puck referring to it as the Denny’s). They’re not very common in Ontario. But Denny’s is just an intrinsically funny chain, and as an American icon, most of my readers will know it. In comedy, cultural accessibility wins every time, so Denny’s beat out the more prominent local breakfast chains like Sunset Grill, Cora and Stacked. For the record, though, my Hamilton vote is for ‘The Egg & I’, a weirdly named local chain with only two glorious locations.
And Puck’s really gotta watch it with the whole ‘chug a big glass of water before heading to bed’ thing. Older bladders can’t take that kind of thing.
Yeah I think Daphne has a point there about Puck neglecting Phoebe. Maybe helping her out a bit would make Phoebe feel a bit better.
Kind of you to think so.
98% of the people I meet look up to me. Except some basketball teams. Those people scare me.
Just for clarification, two thousand and thirty millimeters.
And you felt the need to list your height in the smallest possible measurement so you could use the biggest number, huh?
As a means of irony in using the numbers instead of possible connotations inferred from sports stereotypes. But if you’d like to know, I’m also afraid of heights.
If he did that, the result would be 1.237585470747 x 10^33 Planck length. Come on, millimeter is relatively normal unit.
Heh, you rock fellow nerd.
Hey, I like to tell people I’m 3 foot – 40 Inches. Is that better?
HA! 🙂
2,030 mm=
1 ft. 8 in.,
1.00 ftm. (Adm., ’cause this story’s set in Canada),
8 htwa, 11 let thit,
8 khuep 6 krabiat,
5 chek 46 fan and
7 chhioh or ja/cheok or kanejaku/shaku 70 hun or pun/bun or bu.
Sorry, I used to do things like that a lot and I missed it.
4.51111 cubits.
2030 millimeters is roughly equivalent to around 12.32 typical bananas, considering the average banana length of 7 inche
Pat is equal in height to a stack of 1,750 Canadian pennies from 1968.
“Pat is equal in height to a stack of 1,750 Canadian pennies from 1968.”
That’s got the right number of significant figures at least.
Which cubit? Historically, there are so many.
The one that the Egyptians used to build the pyramids.
“The one that the Egyptians used to build the pyramids.”
So anywhere from 20 5/8 to 20 27/32 in. I guess that’s not that much variation.
1.19 Smoots tall.
You have the right number of significant figures. I’m impressed 🙂
most of us are starved for approval that much or more.
True.
I’m uncertain about how widespread the chain has been in other U.S. states, but “The Egg & I” was fairly commonplace in the front-range cities of the Colorado Rocky Mountains… There were 3 or 4 in Fort Collins, a couple in Greeley, and about a half dozen in Denver and again in Colorado Springs. I know there was one in Farmington New Mexico as well… Unfortunately the chain fell apart a few years ago, and most of the Franchise stores re-configured their menu a bit and re-named. The one I frequented in Greeley Colorado became “The Incredible Egg,” Their Corned-Beef hash is Unbeatable outside of a private Kitchen…
Not sure, but I suspect they were different yet similarly named chains. I believe “The Egg & I” was a popular movie back in the day, and our local chain was named after it. Maybe the same for yours? Or they actually were all connected somehow? Hmm. A mystery.
And a memoire and a pretty good piece of music.

we also have one here in Florida
If Puck is hydrating, how often at night does she have to get up to, er, unhydrate?
(P.S.: You gave me a scare this morning when the site was down.)
I’m still having problems with the site. It’s been a nightmare. Currently my device is not showing anything for this comic’s image, though it’s probably to do with my device’s caching. When I load up the site on a different device, I can see everything just fine.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the site is sadly on borrowed time. Every week brings a new problem. Between old code, the constant threat of hackers and my lack of tech know-how, I do feel the walls are closing in on me.
I could always start a new site, of course. But it’d be a shame to lose the over fifty thousand reader comments logged on this site. A real shame.
I’m pretty sure that Puck can “touch grass” courtesy of her neighbours… lol
I don’t think her neighbors deal in grass. They offer something a little harder. And more illegal.
Guess it’s not the say as a “roll in the hay” with her man huh?
I see no man.
There used to be an Egg & I in Colorado Springs years ago. They had great hazelnut coffee.
A sister chain, mayhaps?
I do believe it was directly affiliated. The logo and text font on the ones in Colorado was identical to the one sharing architecture with “Pub Fiction” that lives to the west of Hamilton. Quite a strange rabbit hole of research to follow on a brutally cold Colorado morning…
Wikipedia says it’s a chain with over 100 locations. Crazy.
Oof.. I can’t imagine the circumstances that would drive someone to Denny’s. If I want something breakfast-y, I’m cooking it myself. If I’m too out of it to cook but somehow able to drive.. it’s probably a trip to Micky-D’s. Or Taco Bell. Or Culvers.
Isolation can be a mixed blessing. It makes fine insulation from the surrounding insanity. (Granted, I’m introverted so.. one man’s trash and all that).
My current breakfast guilty pleasure is Wendy’s. The Breakfast Baconator is a thing of both sin and beauty.
Oh gosh, how long has it been since I took on a Baconator?
I’ll have to re-evalutate my breakfast options.
Otherwise on non-work days I’ll fry up some eggs and bacon on a bagel with a side of hash browns. (I’ve got frozen hash brown patties for this).
Similarly, my yearly tradition (to make SURE I took a year off my lifespan) is to take a Culver’s Cheddar Bacon Butterburger home and top it with a fried egg, over easy.
Yes. Yes she is.
It’s good that Daphne’s paying attention. Good instincts on her. She should hang with Phoebs and maybe Puck a bit.
Daphne has a good head on her. Not always used, but … good.
That MC Hammer reference with Daphne’s top though XD
Few got it. But you did!
Dang, that’s where it’s from.
I saw it and something started niggling in my brain, like I should have recognised it.
Too old, too much stuff jammed in my head, stuff keeps leaking out.
And now you’ll be getting the bill for my Geritol this month. XD
Oh thank you. I was completely unfamiliar with the song. My second thought was a pregnant woman with pump shoes (not that far off I guess) but my first thought was a gas station with a side business in cocaine (maybe the neighbours diversifying?) and I was so confused.
It was Hammer’s last attempt at a hit. It rose to the level “maybe you heard it once” but that’s about it. But still a pretty fun booty jam.
Image for this one strip in particular seems to have vanished.
Concerning. And true. Thanks for letting me know. This was around a time when my site had some serious problems. Looks like the images got eaten. I’ll see if I can fix it.
Should be fixed now. Works for me.
