MARCH MADNESS!!! MAD ABOUT MARCH!!!
Check it, vote it, see picture!
As for this comic…
This one almost killed me. It’s got the usual combination of some new background work, lots of characters, a few vehicle shots – all the things that make comics a nightmare for me. I often start comics on a Friday and work the weekend to get them done. This one I started on Wednesday (giving me one whole day off from comic-making) and STILL needed to work overtime to get done.
But hey. If I don’t do it, no one else will. Is that a good reason? I’m not really sure anymore.
Not often seeing Daphne take command like this and for the kid to even say words like that at her young age. Talk about an unexpected moment or two for this storyline.
When unusual circumstances arise, unusual leaders step forward.
I’m wondering if Hannah is going to be a stand in for Tracee while they wait inside.
Somehow I do not see Hannah being good with children.
I am not sure in what capacity, beyond being blonde.
i think hannah is still WAY too shocked to be of any use….she may like to occasionally walk on the wild side, but she had no idea just HOW wild things could get!
Agreed.
It make take a while to process.
Also, while Puck’s get is likely to grow up quickly in some ways, I do wonder how quickly a half-fairy matures physically.
Or maybe she’s a full fairy? Probably not: Puck isn’t an amazon warrior. As such.
I am pretty sure that Miranda ages at about the same rate as any fully human child. Because anything else would be disorienting.
First appearance – Puck 199, 2013
I think Miranda might be “physically” aging slower than a human but her mental age might be far in excess of her physical appearance.
Although, Puck herself doesn’t seem to follow those guidelines. Yes, physically young after hundreds of years but not a sage for the ages.
However, on the third hand (Yes I have a third hand, it’s quite useful) what do I know, I’m not writing the comic. You do you, EG
Their timeline is on a different scale. It’s been about two years since then in comic time, but twelve years in real time.
In some quarters, that’s known as the gripping hand.
Canadian quarters I’m guessing?
If I had five nickels for every time someone has said that to me, I’d have a Canadian quarter.
Must be great for N64 games.
I like that an arc that has involved very little of the titular fae now suddenly features her, not unreasonably, as ‘bodyguard’.
Had to get her back in the mix somehow.
What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. Carry on, comic wonder!
Though from what I’ve seen from sports injuries, what doesn’t kill you tends to make you weaker and often ends your career.
It made YOU stronger, but your career was killed. Unless that in turn leads to your death, in which case it kills you as well. There’s a range and time lag, is what I’m saying.
It’s a complicated dynamic, obviously.
Doesn’t Hannah get to drive?
Oh you.
I half to admit I was surprised Miranda was suddenly speaking full sentences. But then, every child I’ve every known seem to utter profanity in there first sentences.
Make that a “their” there…
Well, she’s said words before. It’s a natural progression to simple sentences.
Fortunately, Colin and Miranda have Tyler and Hannah to explain what is happening . . . and Colin will regret asking . . .
Exposition that we can thankfully skip.
I was kinda hopin’ Hannah would be in her element with this. But I trust Daphne’s instincts……
Which is a sentence I’m not sure I’d have said in a context like this one.
Can’t wait for all the revelations about to happen and what that will do to Puck and Tracee’s cozy relationship.
Hannah will be back in the fray soon enough. They’re just going to get the gold, not take down everything.
Yay!
They’re going for the gold! Daphne gets credit for avoiding distractions and staying on mission.
Daphne is learning through the fires of adversity. She is approaching a state of leadership.
I believe in her in this role, so long as she doesn’t isolate herself. That string thing was weird.
Oops. didn’t bring Hannah. The brains of the outfit are missing. 🙂
It’s a good thing cell phones are a thing.
Daphne is part of the brain. The left hemisphere?
That’s fair. She didn’t spot Tracee as having assets though. O.K., maybe not the brains so much as the . . . perception?
Eight main characters, one bird, two houses, and a car… one panel. If someone accuses you of slackin’, you send ’em to me. I’ll set ’em strait.
No slack in this rope. If anything, maybe a bit too tight.
if there are more than 5 bars of gold they have to retrieve, I’m not sure that car would be able to handle the weight…’
Or did I just mention a spoiler…
They weigh about 25 pounds a piece. You can’t put fifty of them in a car trunk but 15 to 20 of them wouldn’t weigh much more than an additional two passengers.
That is some highly specific knowledge there, EG.
One might think Wikipedia, but this smacks of personal knowledge. Did Canadians secretly raid Fort Knox or does TopWebComics pay its top comics creators in bars of solid gold… Sounds like a good gig.
TWC doesn’t pay anyone anything. And sadly, nor do online advertisers anymore. I have little direct experience with gold bars. And given the fact that a single 400 oz gold bar currently has a market value well north of a million dollars, I don’t think I’m going to get that experience anytime soon. My current finances make me think twice about ordering chicken nuggets, let alone gold ones.
I was actually taking a shot at the car itself… (sometimes my aim is horrible though, I will admit).
PS. Gold is measured in troy ounces, 12 to a pound. A 400 oz bar would be closer to 35 lbs… but your point is still valid.
Well, 400 oz.t. is 33 lb. 4 oz.t., but it’s also 27 lb. 7 oz. avdp. minus a smidge.
*Shang Tsung voice* “IT HAS BEGUN!”
FINISH THEM!
DAPHNE WINS! FLAWLESS VICTORY! BRUTALITY!
If you didn’t make the comic, maybe someone else would. But it is probably unknowable whether or not this is a better argument for keeping on! 😀
Well, as long as you make it we’ll read it and enjoy it 🙂 With some luck, some of us will have some money to send your way. But the real reason to keep going (long term and short term) should be this: you enjoying it, you satisfying your need to tell stories and draw comics. But… that is probably not a reason to just keep going when you put too much challenges in a single strip! My best guess is that the option to scrap the challenge and simplify the strip is probably a good option, unless you feel that you have the time and need to push yourself. Take care!
Simplifying would be a great move. Though I think people would be upset if suddenly the comic looked way cheaper and was constructed of pre-drawn assembled assets. I dunno. It’s a legit issue I have.
I am concerned that a certain father doesn’t know how to properly hold a baby….
Not a baby. More a toddler. And the concern is more that the artist struggles to draw complex poses of two characters interacting.
