Puck is a weekly webcomic that, in the words of one fan, is "mostly irreverent humor concerning a pretty girl with freckles and a hot she-devil who wears fan-service costumes." Surreal fantasy slice-of-life crazy-type stuff about the world's funniest redhead! Updates Tuesday.
Much action. Honestly, action is very hard to manage in a four-panel strip comic with an expected punch line. You’ll see me struggle against that over the next few strips.
Y’know, I’d always assumed she could fly if she wanted, being an ancient fairy of lore and all, but was just hiding it. I’m still hoping that she could have flown, but literally forgot to, purely because she hasn’t for so long
They don’t have to. You can set it up any way you want and given our author’s down-to-Earthness, I think it’s perfectly normal for Puck ancient fairy of lore, to stay on Earth.
Well, what we’re dealing with is a fundamental issue with the comic’s format. Four vertically oriented panels are not a good conveyor of action. In reality, there’s no way a drone could react that fast at that distance. But I had to close the gap to get it in the shot.
Valid point.
Really, it’s not just the question of realistic speed, but that they’re so close together, we have this drone escaping THROUGH the arch of her swing.
As you say though, you’re limited by the size and number of panels, so we’ll all just suspend our disbelief a little bit, and enjoy the story we’re being told. 😉
Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,
But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out.
Yeah the weak force is weird, also I totally do not understand it. I mean, for starters it’s not actually a force, per se is it? Also, still quadrillions times stronger than gravity, so ‘weak force’ seems like slander.
But then “gravity is not a force” they say. Wish they would get their story straight.
I watch PBS Space Time. My eyes usually start crossing and I start drooling midway through most videos. I’m not smart enough for quantum physics. Or relativistic physics. Heck, even Newtonian physics. I’m not smart.
You have to see the shows hosted by Dr. Brian Cox.
Probably THE best physics communicator of our age – and I’m counting Neil DeGrasse Tyson in there as well.
Weak force used to be called weak NUCLEAR force, while gravity is not nuclear. Besides, it’s not that weak force is so strong, what’s weird is how weak the gravity is.
I suspect that gravity is “not a force” only in same way light is “not a wave”. It is, it’s only also particle.
There’s a time jump between panel three and four. Had I more panels, I would have put a beat panel there. But I only have four. I am straining against the limitations of form here.
Eh, just ask Miranda, future Empress of Earth, to smile at the drone camera. That, or ask Phoebe to have the crows and ravens express their displeasure at a machine invading their space.
Pity this is set in Canada, drones don’t dodge a load of #12 shot very well.
Remember boys, the record for the most gold medals won and won consecutively at the Olympics goes to a woman…a skeet shooter 😉
There are people who own shotguns in Canada. Those are very legal. You just need to be licensed and all that. Only handguns are forbidden. Also, it’s not legal to discharge firearms in an urban setting like this.
Wait! Panel 3. Is that a fart? That haze seemingly emanating from Puck’s skirt. She farted! Well not an uncommon occurrence when you realize you’re about to crash and burn.
A shame that this comic strip doesn’t follow cartoon physics, or Douglas Adams physics. Cartoon physics= gravity only works when you remember it exists. Douglas Adams physics= flight is possible when you forget to hit the ground.
Just that when my school had a pinata event, their idea of handling it was letting each kid take a blindfolded swing at the pinata till one broke it.
Thing is, they made us swing in alphabetical order. So it was always the A’s or B’s or sometimes the C’s who got to bust it open. Me being down in the N’s I never got a chance to swing—and I’ve resented that every since.
Harder than in the US, but not that hard. It’s not Japan, where getting a firearms license is nearly impossible. Lots of gun dudes up here, despite what Americans think Canada is like.
Wow, much action!
Major grass stains incoming on those socks and that blouse.

When I forget a fundamental force, I usually end up on my fundament.
*RIMSHOT!*
Hats off, man. Hats off.
Talk about a swing and a miss.
You miss 100% of the pitches you don’t swing for.
I tend to miss 100% of the pitches that I DO swing at,
Awwwwww, I’d thought she’d make it. I mean, a drone can’t react THAT fast can it? Apparently, it can.
Y’know, I’d always assumed she could fly if she wanted, being an ancient fairy of lore and all, but was just hiding it. I’m still hoping that she could have flown, but literally forgot to, purely because she hasn’t for so long
We can still hold out hope.
It’s not just flying. She should have all sort of magic abilities. Of course, she doesn’t know about at least half of them herself.
They don’t have to. You can set it up any way you want and given our author’s down-to-Earthness, I think it’s perfectly normal for Puck ancient fairy of lore, to stay on Earth.

Maybe it’s some new super drone.
Valid point.

It’s all suspension of disbelief. I could have put them further apart, but I would have needed to shrink the images and that just looks bad.
I just think it’s hilarious. Isn’t that great?
Seems to me it’s more a matter of her forgetting that the drone can defy gravity.
Cue “Wicked” music.
Well, same thing.
Net, next time.
She gets three strikes before she’s out.

Until he got married. Then he hit at least 9 home runs.

Think of him as this generation’s Carl Sagan…

Obi-Wan had it right: “Always trust in the force”
Which one, though? Obi-Wan never really specified.
The Force, silly.
Anyone else wondering how Daphne beat a mid-air Puck to the sidewalk?
There’s a time jump between panel three and four. Had I more panels, I would have put a beat panel there. But I only have four. I am straining against the limitations of form here.

Casey struck out.

Don’t spoil it.
or maybe hint to ther neighbor that its a police drone – surely he doesn´t want the comings+goings of crackistan to be widely known!
on a side note, if this were an us-comic, someone would´ve already grabbed their shotgun 😉
Did anyone else notice the unfortunate placement of the smoke cloud in panel 3?
I just assumed Puck pooted on the way down…
Unintentional. But I’m not moving it.
I’m also noticing Puck’s shirt went from above her belly-button to fully tucked in mid-air. Puck truly is a magical creature.
Her shirt isn’t tucked in for panel three. It’s just there. If I were better, I would have had it billowing at the back, but I’m not better.

There’s a smokestack obscured by her. Sadly.

We are not following the Hitchhiker’s rules here, obviously.
Drone 1, Puck 0
Round 2 coming up!!!
Round two next comic.
I still have faith in Puck and her ability to cause violence.
No, not baseball. A pinata. I hate pinatas.
This is pinata plus.
Just that when my school had a pinata event, their idea of handling it was letting each kid take a blindfolded swing at the pinata till one broke it.

If she had truly forgotten gravity… she would have flown.
since I have now dated myself… get off the lawn!
You and Fenchurch. Though she ceased to exist a long time ago, I guess.
I have faith in Puck! You shatter that thing! Give it another go!
She appreciates the vote of support.
Puck has only begun to fight! She WILL prevail!!!
She may not prevail. But she will keep on fighting.
How hard is it to get a shotgun in Canada? 🙂
