And here (finally) ends this storyline. I thought it good that we had a word or two from Colin to provide some closure. And it’s been a while since they’ve been sitting in bed, so I felt like it was time to bring that old trope back. Reminds me of Blondie and Dagwood. Always struck me as slightly naughty of Blondie and Dagwood to sit in bed with Blondie’s shoulder strap always falling down, though their conversation never actually wandered into sexual territory. Puck and Colin are tad different, of course.
You’re so scary, a dermatologist wouldn’t mess with your freckles.
You’re so scary, the devil himself decided not to press charges after you kicked the ever luvin’ poop out of his scaly butt!
(Well, for that reason and others.)
Dermatologists who mess with freckles deserve a proper roasting in hell.
Unless “mess” is a euphemism for nookie…
… actually, scrap that. They’d be roasting in hell anyway. The best kind of hell.
Umm Col, you say she’s scarier than your family and that it’s a good thing, but have you forgotten how scary she was when she was pregnant?
One word of advice before you start gettin’ frisky mate: Raincoat!
I think, like a good horror movie fan, Colin sometimes likes to be scared.
And now, you must add horror movie references to his clothing. 🙂
Dracula-themed underpants?
The “I know what you did last summer” raincoat line of protection?
Better than I know what you did last summer contraceptives.
Because recent baby.
We knew Colin was onboard before, but it’s nice to see him get rewarded for his, uhm, uhm….. It’s nice to see him get rewarded!
Hey, being spineless and avoiding the brewing conflict always leads to rewards!
I don’t think he was spineless. I think he was wise.
Well, wisdom and cowardice are not always at cross purposes.
“How do you scare me..? Let me count the ways…
I think Puck scares him in one large, overwhelming way.
The only way to fight monsters is with a sexier monster! I think Nietzsche said something about that.
Nietzsche did say that. It’s why he grew that mustache.
I also like the head angle adjustment on Puck in the last panel, those can be trickier to pull off since it’s so close to the normal angle yet slightly different so it feels weird drawing it. Or maybe that’s just me.
I sometimes manage head angle adjustments on purpose. Sometimes it just comes out that way. I sort of forget whether this one was intentional.
Warrior Miranda would be awesome as a vote incentive.
Ah, the age old tactic of hiding from scary monsters, behind a scarier monster.
When the scary monster is wearing a cute nightie, I’m totally there.
Civil wars are the worst…family feuds a nightmare…How is it some families can’t see enough of each others while others are at each others throats permanently. It may explain why wolf bitches have up to seventeen offsprings but only two or three even survive…They say with hyenas, the mother actually encourage the numerous pups to kill each others!(Then they eat the losers!)
As a species, I think we’re a weird evolutionary transition point. We never totally moved our genes over to get in line with our life model. It’s caused problems.
I said ‘very scary fairy’ three times fast. Do I win something now?
As for the comic, I honestly feel relieved for Colin (given how his family is; he’s the most… Sane, I guess? of them).
As for Puck being ‘happy’ that she’s called scary… Is it wrong I’m more amused than surprised?
‘Very scary fairy’ is unfortunately not a really good tongue twister. I sat for twenty minutes trying to come up with a better one, but couldn’t. And I agree with you that Puck is just one of those people. Those people. You know the people.
yep, puck is way scary! too bad colins family didn´t visit while she was still pregnant to get the double-plus puck experience……wouldn´t have needed to add tracee into the mix to scare them off back then 😉
Yeah, non-pregnant Puck may be more rational and careful, but pregnant Puck certainly won on the unbridled rage front.
I think the timing was perfect. Normal puck is more of a schemer, and that’s what was needed during this storyline.
But now we know of the scheming scourge of the wee Scottish fairy as a mother. Roll D15 for new classification stats and abilities with 250 scare points allotted to persnickity precociousness parentage.
Anything can be converted into a roleplaying game. Anything.
Cheer up, Colin. Your new family will be powerful enough someday to visit your old family and scare them…
Ooh, flipping the tables! Sounds like another plot concept for when I run out of plot concepts.
Flipped tables are truly scary. Verily, it worked for Prince Humperdink.
Puck: the terrifying aphrodisiac.
There’s a reason why so many dates feature a horror movie.
Puck: Scary women and the men who love them (not quite the same way they’d love a big, scary guard dog with a spiked collar). :p
No, men who love scary women tend not to love scary dogs. Men who love scary dogs tend to like meek, easily controlled women.
What if they need a woman capable of standing up to and training a big, scary dog at their side? 😉
Nah, they want that joy for themselves.
Scary women have both their pros and cons, but if they come in redhead form, the pros definitely outweigh the cons.
Emphatically agreed.
Maybe it’s just me but… Is Colin’s text bubble yellow in the second panel rather than green? (I’ve had a long day behind me, including doing a dental filling – I apologize if I’m imagining things!)
I’m an idiot. Green rather than yellow*
I think you’re right. Which is an oversight I need to fix, because that kind of thing drives me crazy.
To be driven crazy, you have to first not be crazy.
Crazier.
Having said “Very scary fairy” three times really fast, the only thing I am thinking is of is “Count Floyd” from the old SCTV TV comedy show. Having said that it is nice to see that Eugene Levy has gone from Cameos as the Doctor in this strip to an actual TV show again… ;p
Count Floyd was Joe Flaherty. But I’m sure our man Eugene was in a few of those shorts.
Wasn’t Floyd the barber?
On the Andy Griffith show, yes. On SCTV, he was the newcaster who moonlighted as a vampire horror movie host. Great television, man.
I think you fell into the same trap I did, Gecko. Flaherty and Levy where the anchors to SCTV News as Floyd Robertson and Earl Camembert, but Flaherty did the intros to the Late Night Horror Show (as Count Lloyd) himself. So I needed to bring up SCTV news to make the proper transition.
BTW, if you needed to make a local news report, Can the anchor look like Earl Camembert/Eugene Levy/The Doctor ? :p
Can do.
Puck fighting Cobra’s B.A.T’s would be neat.
I know Miranda isn’t in this strip, but it occurred to me that she sort of belongs to mamagrow.
She isn’t in this strip, but yeah, theoretically, she does. That said, I don’t think fly-by-night drug distributors have legally binding contracts.
Wow, I had an idea a few weeks back about a dude getting a fake girlfriend in order to get his Mom off his case about dating, and have said girlfriend literally scare Mom off as much as possible to make the issue stay dead. I cannot describe how much of a pleasant surprise to see you pull off the idea so well, if my mad laughter is anything to go by.
On another note, if Puck could write a book on how to scare away in-laws, she’d probably make a lot of money from not only people in that situation but individuals who are not via entertainment value. For those who doubt, yes, that is an actual market because my Mom has a serious handbook for how to be preppy and laughs hysterically every time she picks it up.
There are handbooks for everything. It’s a longstanding genre. My favorite is Ovid’s Ars Remedia – a guide for how to successfully break up with a woman. It’s over 2000 years old. Advice is STILL valid.
Youtube has a channel called History Teachers it uses music to teach history Why not check it out sometime. I watch it often it’s very educational and entertaining.
How about having Puck work at the maternity wear store she visited when she was pregnant with Miranda.
Uh-oh…baby no. 2 on the way? 😀
No, I think they’ve learned their lesson.
Since when do these two learn a lesson and remember it?
ZING!!! When the lesson’s puking on you every day, I think it’s hard to forget. Still, who knows?
You’d be amazed how little difference that makes for people who are determined to mash #$%@ together.
I never noticed before, the way her finger is on his neck in the fourth panel…
@Buggle
Observant !
Hey, I try for vague moments of tenderness here and there. In between the punching.
Colin: “How about I serenade you? ‘You’re a mean one… Mrs. Grinch! You reeeally aaare a heel!”
Puck: “This became less sexy really fast.”
Colin: “…………Garlic in your soul?”
Get to the spiders. That’s the sexy part.
As an American, I’m going to assume from Colin’s family that Alberta is a pretty right wing province.
Alberta is the Texas of Canada: home of Canadian big oil, the Calgary Stampede. The most right-leaning province in the country. That said, all of Canada is very ‘swing state’ in nature, so even Alberta has been known to spontaneously vote in an NDP candidate now and then. (NDP is like if Bernie Sanders had his own party.)
Canada is weird.
