Until now, Miranda had never been shown without a hat. Now we know the reason.
My wife was taken aback by this comic a little. “Wow, that baby is suddenly a few months older,” she noted. Which is true, I guess. This represents a soft time jump in the comic. Really, though, it’s just a matter of practicality. It’s well nigh impossible to draw or accurately depict the steady, slow development of a baby from teeny infant to toddler. It’s much easier to just go for the shorthand and draw the kid at a few key stages, skipping the in-between parts. Hey, at least it’s not as bad as soaps or sitcoms, where kids can grow up seemingly in a matter of days.
And for the record, both of my kids sported this unique, entirely natural hairstyle for a good while. They grew out of it, but the memories remain.

A CBC spoof on the Australian take by, well not many want to lay claim to the movie or how or why or who caused the total systematic collapse into a dystopian outback.
I’m one of the few people on this planet who likes — unabashedly likes — the Tank Girl movie. Honestly, I saw it with a bunch of friends in high school, thought it was awesome, and went on my merry way. It wasn’t until decades later (now) that I was duly informed by the internet that it was a ‘terrible’ movie. It was off-beat, sure. It wore its comic spirit on its sleeve, which I know people don’t like much anymore, but I was cool with that. I loved the mixed-media approach, with cuts of animation and schematics and all that. I guess I’m weird.
I’m not bashing it. I loved it. Jamie & Hewitt didn’t like it. But what can I say, the two visual mediums can only meet so far in terms of being able to get the same visual vibe.
Besides, I don’t know if Lori Petty can pull off an 80 megaton pushup bra.
All things good in pop culture evolved from a comic book.

Most people HATE-hate the movie, though. I don’t. I’m weird that way.
My brain went to the troll dolls of the late 1980s… and more recent musical movie.

I really like Phoebe’s shirt in this one, it’s a cool design. That being said, it’s kind of reminding me of a bunny for some reason.
Now that you mention it, think I see the bunny too. The straps on Phoebe’s shirt look like the ears and the cleavage window is the head.
I see the rabbit. If I’d put the straps over the shoulder, the bunny would be perfected. Maybe I’ll save that idea for another outfit.
Comic time is funny. A fist fight can take weeks and that seems normal, but a baby suddenly getting to solid food seems remarkable.
I wonder if Miranda is going to grow up thinking pointy ears is a female characteristic, and men are round eared, based on the important people in her life?
I can just see her first day of Kindergarten.
Miranda: Hmm, everybody else has round ears. Does that mean everybody else are boys, even the ones in the skirts?
Kids get to kindergarten with all sorts of wacky ideas in their heads. It’s the school’s job to flush that out.

A little bit of conformity ain’t a bad thing. We don’t need individuals! We need pre-formed, pre-boxed peoplets that fit nicely into established grids!

Are you kidding me? I used to have my friends/family ship me bottles of Gerber baby deserts over to Iraq. Those things rocked! (Especially the peach cobbler.) I doubt I’d have kept my sanity out in the field without them.
why did you want more desert? surely you had all the desert you could want in Iraq? or did you mean dessert? (ehehehe yes i know what you meant)
No, actually it was Gerber baby deserts. Small sand dunes in a bottle; just add air. Great for providing cover positions when you needed them. I especially liked the peach cobbler scented version. It was like having the comforting smells of home combined with the annoying grit of the local sand particles that got in EVERYTHING! 😛
The dessert stuff is pretty good. I still remember being four and hiding out under the sink to eat my brother’s banana baby food. It was like banana cream pie filling! But the stuff you feed teeny tiny babies, the grain cereals, range from innocuous to disgusting. Rice cereal and wheat cereal are just meh, but the barley cereal? Nasty. Tastes (and functions) like wallpaper paste. Weird fact: many babies seem to love the barley cereal despite its awful, disgusting taste. No accounting for baby taste.

We’ve seen the ears in various shots peaking out from under the hat, but they’re more … prominent here, certainly.

So, just a question – since we can’t fully see it – do you actually have a picture in your mind for Daphne’s shirt, or did you figure because it was mostly off-panel that it wasn’t worth it? I’ve been wanting to know what’s on it; it’s kind of been bugging me.
I have an a-list of Daphne shirts and a b-list of Daphne shirts. The a-listers I put on the shirts that get shown prominently in the panel. The b-listers I’ll stick on these types of strips where you can’t seem them well. B-list shirts are either really dumb or really obscure. This particular one says “Mike Aruba.”
That’s a good idea, you get your private references but don’t confuse people. Though, I don’t think game grumps is entirely obscure, but I might be a bit biased because of my particular – and peculiar – group of friends.
Well, you might be right. The people who read this comic are all peculiar in a similar way too, so I shouldn’t be too worried. Mind you, the other thing that keeps me from putting something like ‘Mike Aruba’ on prominent display is the fact that I don’t think it’ll date well. People will read it five years from now and get confused. I try to keep the stupid shirts as ‘timeless’ as I can.

Hey Gecko. on a completely unrelated topic to Puck, I found just found out that we lost Terry Pratchett today. He died at home, with his cat sleeping on his bed.
I know you love his work as much as I do, so I wanted to post a quick tribute to him here. I will sorely miss his pen.
Yeah, I’m certainly saddened by our loss. The fact that he died before Alzheimer’s really started to ravage his mind, though, I look at as a bit of a blessing. It would have been, to my mind, tragic to have watched such a great mind brought low by that disease.
That is actually a comforting thought in a lot of ways.
Terry Pratchett has gone to a better place.
He had 3 posthumous tweets, quoted here. kinda brought a tear to my eye.

I’m having fun with the wordless communication thing. Which, of course, is total poetic license because babies don’t emote much at this stage, but it’s still fun to draw.

I see that Miranda doesn’t have freckles like Puck does.
Freckles don’t usually manifest in babies until they get a bit older. They kind of darken with age. So that’s no guarantee that she won’t have freckles later.
