The saga continues. And we find out Colin's career, which (unsurprisingly) is the same as my own. This strip is born from my own inner shock at occupying a role of authority and supposed 'knowledge'. Really, I'm just an overgrown kid who knows nothing. But aren't we all? Some of us just disguise it better, I guess.
And I have no idea how Colin could ever incorporate SMW into a senior academic English class. Which is why it's funny, I suppose.
Well…, you could incorporate it as a study of classic themes, i.e. rescue the princess in a pseudo-midevil world, in a postmodern format of video games that deconstructs it somewhat by having it be a mundane plumber doing the hero work, including slaying a dragon, instead of a traditional knight, pointing out how it could even be considered more heroic for Mario. Dragon slaying is in a knight’s job description, where as it ain’t in a plumbers.
See? So much potential, really. You could take it from a ‘champion of the proletariat’ stance and do a political criticism of it. Really, the more I think about it, the more I want to write this paper.

…I still think you’d be an awesome teacher (a teacher who makes webcomics? I DON’T SEE WHY NOT).
Believe me, most of my students likely bemoan the fact that they have me as a teacher and curse me for being boring. None of them know about my webcomic. I try to make the subject interesting, but I don’t always succeed.
I currently follow an established policy regarding students and my comic: I will periodically admit to certain students that I run a webcomic, but I never disclose which webcomic it is. Some of them figure it out, but I think that if they wish to put in the time and energy, they deserve it.
Well, it’s not a total secret. There are a few students that know, but they’re cool. And they don’t tell. (They figured it out on their own, actually.) It’s not a super well kept secret; it’s just more a desire to keep it from being the first thing that pops up when you Google my name.
Canada cops? Canadian cops. Mounties. LONG LIVE MAPLE SYRUP FLAVORED BEAVERS!!!! And bacon. Mmmmm…..bacon. In muh mouf. (munch, munch, munch) Okay. Wait. What the hell was I talking about? Bacon induced amnesia maybe? I dunno. I already forgot….
I would like to one day film Mario speaking Hamlet’s famous monologue. “Whether ’tis a-nobler in the player’s eye to a-suffer the goombas and koopas of outrageous Bowser…”
