Puck 224

Chapter: The Tale of Two BlondesCharacters: Colin Miranda Puck
NEW WEEKLY VOTING INCENTIVE! MARCH OF VILLAINY!!! A different Puck character cosplays as a famous cartoon villain … every single week in March! Now I know some of you have given me flack for going all 80’s retro on you too often, so this time I’m making it all about prominent cartoons from the post-millennial decade. Just for the young’ns! CLICK HERE TO VOTE FOR PUCK!!! IT’LL GRANT YOU TEMPORARY INVULNERABILITY TO METEOR ATTACKS! As for this comic… On the topic of Phoebe’s room, I had a lot of cool, crazy details that I wanted to work in, but the panel size, angle and general composition of the strip made it impossible to include them or have them fully visible or recognizable. Such details included: -a Victorian birdcage full of feather boas -even more useless drapery with lots and lots of tassels -some sort of stuffed tiger -lots and lots of mirrors with gilded frames -a Klimt print Okay, maybe not the last one, but the rest are good ideas. They’ll have to wait for future comics, I guess.

I wonder if Colin and his sister ever have sibling rivalry.

  • Pat

Is THAT why so many people were running for the border?

  • Kaiser

I dunno… Classy bordello sounds pretty sweet to me.
Hey, EG, I’ve been curious for a while (sorry if you’ve answered this before!) but given how you took a 7 year break from making this comic, what made you take it up again? No offense intended, I’m just honestly curious!

    • ElectricGecko

This question’s answered in my FAQ in a bit more detail, but the short answer is that I spent ten years working on failed projects that never actually saw the light of day, and was sick of it. Puck was the only thing I’d ever done that people actually seemed to like much, so I returned to that, and the freedom of a webcomic format where a publisher couldn’t deny me an audience.

  • Maybe they could put his sister in Phoebe’s room and his parents in Daphne’s room.

    • ElectricGecko

Colin’s sister would probably dislike it even more. We’ll encounter sister shortly. Besides, I think that Phoebe’s bed is likely freakin’ enormous, whereas Daphne’s bed would likely be some dorm-type cot barely big enough to hold one person.

His guess is as good as mine.
Also, I thought they were Canadians. Since when does Canada have a Mexican border?

    • ElectricGecko

It doesn’t. But because America’s Mexican border looms large in that country’s psyche, it looms large in ours too.

      • Mahnarch

We Americans are willing to give Canada a 2 mile strip of land along the entire US-Mexico border if Canada is willing to give us 2 extra miles North.

That way, we can reconnect with our exclave; The Northwest Angle.

        • ElectricGecko

Uh, no thanks. Doesn’t sound like a very good deal. And if you look into it, you’ll find that a huge percentage of the Canadian population lives within two miles of the American border. So we’d be losing most of the country, really.

          • Mahnarch

Hmm. Maybe we could… relocate those native people of Canada. On to a… “reserved” area, maybe.

All of this sounds vaguely familiar.

Hex and Megabyte in Reboot are brother and sister and have serious sibling rivalry issues.

    • ElectricGecko

      That show sucks.

      • Marduk

Shhhh. I don’t know why but there’s a lot of people online that love Reboot. So many that they’re considering rebooting Reboot. Beware the nerd rage.

        • ElectricGecko

Reboot sucks. It has a sort of quaint charm, certainly, but it was after my time, and on this one I feel safe to note (without the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia that you youngsters are wearing concerning this I.P.) that Reboot totally, unequivocally sucks.

          • Marduk

Reboot was my time (I love Transformers Beast Wars) and even with nostalgia colored glasses I can’t stand the show. That’s why the nerd love for the show is that much more baffling to me.

          • ElectricGecko

I was in high school at the time. ReBoot was actually a Canadian production, so it was always on television up here, and with my interest in animation, I forced myself to watch some of it. It has its own … insufferable charm, I suppose, but one can only take so many sweeping camera tracks before one gets driven to distraction.

Ha, even I knew about Team Rocket and Pokemon. Little broothers have theor uses, few though they are.

Puck, go to Walmart and get some of those gruesome industrial strength granny panties and you’ll be fine.

Have to say I don’t know a lot about Bordellos. Spencer thinks the Dean’s Office in “Looking For Rachel Wallace” looks like a Victorian one, Jack Aubrey sings about “Ladies of Lubricity” that live in one, Sweeney wakes up in one in “Sweeney Among the Nightingales, and Michael Moorcock wrote about one on “Rosenkranz Street” in a book I didn’t finish. Phoebe’s room looks more like that of a sexually active girl who wishes she were more active and who saw Ensign Pulver’s pillow in “Mister Roberts” and developed a fetish.

  • Marduk

I’m always amazed whenever you remind us that Colin is a teacher. Somehow that knowledge is surprising no matter how often I hear it.

  • Mike Williams

Doh!!! Hopefully this isn’t an indictment on the Canadian educational system and the buck stops with Colin’s vacuous train of thought. 😀

    • ElectricGecko

Hey, only the Americans indict the Canadian education system. Canadians just keep on outscoring Americans and laugh.

  • Greg White

I wonder who’s older Colin or his sister.

  • wally

If it was my problem I’d just tell my parents that the “Bordello” room was ours and we were letting them use it since it had a nicer bed.

  • wally

…And let them think what they want about our relationship.

    • ElectricGecko

Yeah, that would take a certain level of confidence. Not sure how it would fix the situation, though.

      • wally

Kids have been lying to parents for all time. Parents know it and are willing to ignore many lies if it makes them too uncomfortable to know the truth.

  • gaztasterofpork

This comic has raised the question: Did Colin’s parents approve of his marriage to Puck? And if they did/didn’t how and where did they get married? How does one approach your parents with the revelation that you want to marry a coffee obsessed, freckly, red headed Elf who could if even slightly perturbed lash out in pitiless violence?

    • ElectricGecko

      1) They never actually got married
      2) Colin really hasn’t told his parents much about Puck (and vice versa) but more on that later
      3) In such a situation, most men choose not to approach their parents and have them figure it out on their own time.

  • Greg White

I noticed in the Green Lantern Puck vote comic there are alien abductions going on in the background what’s the purpose of these close encounters of the 4th kind?

  • Greg White

I wonder if Miranda will take self defense lessons when she’s older.

  • Greg White

I wonder how Puck would react if a girl in Colin’s English class got herself a huge crush on him.

  • MidnightDStroyer

As a comment to your alt-text, a bordello *could* pass as a steakhouse. They *do* serve meat there…In a way.

  • Frank Harr

Canada doesn’t even HAVE a Mexican border!

That’s part of why it’s funny.

For some reason, I’m not surprised no one’s talked about this up to now.
