Puck 282

Chapter: The Happiest Place in OntarioCharacters: Daphne Puck Tyler (aka Taylor)Tags: Canada's Funderland
APRIL VOTING INCENTIVE! NOTHING INTERESTING! Seriously, man, there’s nothing interesting to see if you vote. What, don’t you trust me? VOTE EVEN WHEN THERE’S NO REAL MOTIVATION FOR YOU TO DO SO!!! ALSO… And as for the comic… If you’re confused as to why Puck is pouring out a perfectly good can of Coke-like beverage into the sink, see previous strip. Oh, and I think we can safely assume that Tyler does not have weird religious parents who hate fun. Daphne is known for taking creative license with everything in life.

  • Poor Tyler, getting roped in the family “fun” fest.

    In Canada.

  • It sucks when you realize that you are the company that misery loves.

    • ElectricGecko

Well, she’s specifically stated that her misery hasn’t loved his company, but only when his misery is being distracted by hot chicks. This was my memory of being a teenage boy: “Miserable … miserable … so depressed … so WHOA, WHAT’S THAT? DAAAAAAAANG! … so miserable.”

  • DLKMusic

Suddenly, I have this overwhelming urge to feel sorry for Tyler. You will look back on this moment 30 years from now, and realize… there never was any “good ol’ days”.

    • ElectricGecko

I have a huge soft spot for this type of young ‘couple’, the type that communicate like an old married couple. My daughter is five. Her closest friend is a boy. They constantly bicker and argue. Yet they’re still always together. I find it endearing.

      • demarion

        Hmmm . . . . I wonder if you’ll be saying that ten years from now . . .

        • ElectricGecko

Well, it’s cute at five. Ten years from now, who knows?

          • Ming the Merciless

Ah! Four years old’s romances…I had it with both my fav Jewish cousin AND the Governor’s curly haired blond grand daughter…frolicking in the “Château” with ten feet tall doors and windows, the carpets were so thick, rubbing our feet on them made four inches long sparks…

  • pat

Have those two even had a first kiss yet?

  • Valkeiper2012

time for a submarine to torpedo the Tyler/Daphne ship. maybe a more… understanding… person of female persuasion.

Maybe then she will understand there is more to their relationship than what SHE wants.

Normally, I like her spunk and intelligence (Normally meaning when her target deserves her ire), but Tyler is definitely NOT deserving of her treatment of him. Kinda makes you wonder why he even hangs around her.

Notice she makes Puck think Tyler has never gone to that park, but Tyler’s statement proves not only has he gone, but he hates it. Just another point in the undeserved treatment she gives him.

    • ElectricGecko

Something like that (though now exactly like that) will be coming up in a ‘junior prom’ storyline. At some point in time. But yes, Tyler is treated awfully. I find it hilarious, but I also find it all too common. I certainly received similarly awful treatment at the hands of girls I was head over heels for, and I certainly witnessed girls treated awfully by guys they were head over heels for. Teen love is a dangerous, horrible brew. But sometimes we come out the other side with a greater understanding of the fact that our partners are actually human, with real needs. Sometimes.

  • How much could Tyler cost to bring along? (Assuming everything goes like it would for normal people, of course.)

    • ElectricGecko

I dunno. Sixty bucks or something like that? Nothing too overwhelming, but Puck is really cheap when it’s something that’s not for her.

      • Mahnarch

Well, if Puck put that $10k into a nice interest bearing account, such as a money market or mutual fund with a decent ROI before the soft time jump, she may have conceivably earned enough compound interest to cover Tyler’s entry to the park.

        • ElectricGecko

Oh, come on! Do you think Puck is financially with it? She’s probably stuffed those bills in a mattress for safe keeping.

          • Mahnarch

Yeah. It felt wrong just typing that – like it didn’t mesh with Pucks’ mentality.

What’s the opposite of ‘preaching to the choir’?

          • ElectricGecko

The opposite of ‘preaching to the choir’ is ‘cussing at the #$%^ers’, I believe.

    • Sixty bucks, plus the cost of crappy theme park food that will likely give you food poisoning later, crappy drinks, and bathrooms that aren’t cleaned often enough because they can’t often enough with the number of people going in and out of them at any given time.

      • ElectricGecko

To be honest, the real world equivalent of Canada’s Funderland is actually pretty first rate. Food’s good (expensive but good), washrooms are clean, rides don’t break down. They’ve got an amazing safety record, actually. It’s worth the sixty bucks. But if you’re paying for a small crowd, it does get pricey.

        • Then it must not be as busy as the theme parks I’ve been to. I went to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio back in high school (Which is considered 35th best in the world, and 15th best in the US), and even in May, when the weather was turning favorable and it wasn’t as crowded as it would become, the bathrooms smelled as I expected.

I don’t remember the food, though. I haven’t been to Ceder Point in the time since.

          • ElectricGecko

Never been to Cedar Point, though I certainly know of its status. I’ve been to Darien Lake, though. I was … not impressed.

          • Honestly though, I don’t know why I even bothered singing its pedigree; I hate roller coaster parks, and Ceder Point is a roller coaster park.

  • Kaiser

…I literally laughed out loud after reading this comic. Which is impressive given everything that’s going on at my place at the moment (let’s just say, without Puck, I would have been depressed quite some time ago)…

  • Krylon

I’m confused. Did Daphne want Tyler to come along thinking she would be doing him a huge favor, or did she know he hates that place and wanted to punish him? Or maybe she does not care either way and wants him along as a matter of principle?

  • Jocelyn

So, how did Daphne have a chance to go to Canada’s Funderland without Puck noticing?

    • ElectricGecko

I think Daphne has a chance to do a great many things without Puck noticing. This is partly facilitated by Daphne’s own inherent craftiness, yet also facilitated by the fact that Puck really doesn’t care much.

  • Rock

What just happened…? ó_ò I am rather confused. Does Daphne just enjoy going to Funderland with Tyler, or does she enjoy making him miserable?

Shame that such a nice smile concealed more trickery.

  • Greg White

Is Miranda going too or will someone have to babysit her?

  • Robin

I often wonder, how much of a bad influence Daphne will have on Miranda since Pucks never really paying much attention to either of them.

    • ElectricGecko

I hold out hope for Daphne. By the time Miranda is old enough to really get into trouble, Daphne might have morphed into a slightly more responsible individual. Puck’s a lost cause, but Daphne? She’s young. There’s still hope.

  • Greg White

I wonder if a college fund has been started for Miranda yet.

    • ElectricGecko

      I don’t wonder. Because she hasn’t.

      • Ming the Merciless

College fund? It’s free in Canada…That’s why the students are always on strike…College AND University…

        • ElectricGecko

Uh, not free. Subsidized, but not free. Much, much cheaper than the American equivalents, but with a less robust scholarship system. Of course, the various levels of government are always itching to cut those subsidies drastically, which is what the strikes are about. Though the strikes (in recent times) have only been in Quebec, where the system is even more subsidized.

  • Robin

And one more thing, since when are Daphne’s eyes blue?

  • Greg White

A college fund should be started for Miranda right away.

  • Greg White

    Miranda could be a D.A.

  • Greg White

    What’s a B.A.?

  • Barnabus

why pour out the drink? offer it to someone else.

  • JR Beeler

I looked it up, and “Funderland” (Park) is in Sacramento, California — next to the Sacramento Zoo.

    • ElectricGecko

I believe it. Apparently there’s also a seasonal carnival called Funderland which operates outside Dublin, according to one reader. I can’t believe anyone would ever use such a doofy name, but there you go.

    • Palagpat

I can confirm; I grew up near Sacramento, and had many childhood trips to Funderland. Things may have changed, but at the time the only “roller coaster” was a fairly mild train-styled one on a short loop with a couple of ups and downs. The park is very much kid-oriented (or was a few decades ago).

  • SotiCoto

I’m not sure the previous page justifies throwing away the drink on this page.

It is laughably pathetic of her to be put off her drink so very easily by a little talk of vomit… but just downright idiotic for her to pour it all away rather than just putting it, opened, back in the fridge.

I’ve even got a special slot in the fridge door reserved for cans of beverage I’m halfway through.
