Puck 298

Chapter: The Happiest Place in OntarioCharacters: Daphne Tyler (aka Taylor)Tags: Canada's Funderland kneecaps shnorfs
THE PUCK BOOK IS ON SUPER SALE!!! LIKE, RIGHT NOW!!! If you’re vaguely interested in possibly owning a copy of the Puck book, well, now’s your chance to take action! It’s in color, it’s big, it’s beautiful, and NOW IT’S ONLY $18.99! It includes +200 comics and a bunch of never before seen extras documenting the early stages of Puck’s creation. For instance, did you know that at an earlier stage of development, Phoebe had goat legs? And for a brief period in history, Puck and Phoebe were a pair of futuristic buddy cops? It’s all in the book! CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR COPY OF PUCK VOLUME 1 IN A MATTER OF DAYS! (Seriously, the shipping is super fast and if you’re in the United States, shipping’s pretty cheap too.) ALSO… VOTING INCENTIVE! WHOLE LOTTA DC!!! I ran out of time to generate a full-on new voting incentive last week because I was on vacation, but I did have time to assemble a group shot of the JLA cosplay experience and even throw in a batch of new jokes! VOTE BEFORE ZACK SNYDER STICKS A ‘V’ IN IT! As for the comic… For those of you confused by the fact that Shnorf Village is in a cave, I can only tell you to direct your concerns or criticisms to 1980’s-era theme park attraction designers. The real ride (Smurf Village, which in reality was dismantled decades ago) was in a big, fake cave. The cave setting was highly inaccurate to the woodland setting of Smurf Village in the cartoon, and actually gave the whole experience a more Fraggle Rocky vibe. This is one of those entirely character-based gags that brand new readers cannot possibly find funny. If you’re a brand new reader, I’m sorry. If you’re not a brand new reader and you still can’t possibly find this funny, then I apologize.

Bestest best friend? Must’ve been the homemade ice pop threat that hooked him.

Re: The vote incentive. I remember the original Super Friends in first run. I even found some episodes on-line. Why did I ever think they were good? I guess at the time, I did not have anything to compare them to. All the characters are basically the same, but with different power-sets. BTW, the design for the Hall of Justice was based on a train station in Cincinnati.

    • ElectricGecko

You thought they were good because, like all bad kids’ shows of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s (and honestly, they were pretty much all bad with very few exceptions), they were all you have to watch. You could watch Super Friends or reruns of M.A.S.H. and Super Friends always won out for a seven year-old.

And I didn’t know that Cincinnati was so Justice-minded.

    i remember tonya harding

yep, daph is her own brand of evil – she might´ve refined her style growing up with puck though. also: i still want to know what the BLEEPIN HELL she needs that smurf for. honestly, that question is driving me up the walls!!

    • ElectricGecko

Answers will be had. They might not be satisfying, but they’ll be had.

I’ve just been thinking of it as the same reason one of my friends now owns a crosswalk button. It was there. Seriously, he’d be with Daphne, enhancing and improving on the plan and making me steal the Shnorf.

        • ElectricGecko

Yeah, some people operate with theft the same way Sir Edmund Hillary operated with mountains: “Why do I need to steal that inflatable gorilla? Because it’s there, dear boy. Because it’s there.”

  • Sean Fearsalach

I knew who Tonya Harding was!

  • Nick Manly

I wonder if Cybratron or whatever that is that’s presenting this might be punishing Daphne pretty soon.

    • ElectricGecko

It’s Cybagron, and I think they’ll probably reserve their doom robots for more nefarious purposes.

      • Is that a conglomerate combining the software, agriculture, and entertainment industries? I see the logic: sales of “food” may be a major component of the park’s revenue stream. and the park itself is merely a promotional gimmick for the entertainment empire’s electronic arts.

        Maybe.

125% of your readers would be too young to get it? That’s… An impressive amount of people that’d not get the joke, actually.
“Bestest-best friend” just sounds… Weird. And at the same time, I don’t see how they’d be anything else either so yeah (possible love interests for each other? Doubtful, but not impossible!)

    • ElectricGecko

I think the the love interest thing is unspoken and unrealized yet nevertheless undeniable. It’ll happen. Eventually.

  • First it’s the kneecaps. Next time, it might be something he really needs.

Im old enough that i had almost ‘forgotten’ who Tonya Harding is. That was a sorrid affair everyone should let pass into history. Personally I thought Tonya and Nancy both deserved kneecapping. Anyway, my guess is Daphne is going to use that creepy Shnorf gnome to drive the crackheads next door away. The sight of a little blue person stareing at them everytime they look out the window is sure to drive them insane. It would me even without the crack im sure. Cant wait to get the book. Thanks EG

    • ElectricGecko

I think that motivation for getting a gnome is way too altruistic for Daphne. Yet I’m sure she has her reasons. And if you choose to order the book, I hope you’ll enjoy it!

  • Typeminer

Hey, I remember Tonya and Nancy as the funniest thing in the news for a while. But I was too old for Super Friends. *Double win!*

Us older kids had to struggle along with Jay Ward Productions and endless reruns of the Warner Bros. and MGM animation backlists. Heh.

  • Greg White

I wonder what will happen to them if they got caught.

  • Valkeiper2012

the sign says “brought you by CYBATRON”?

Never heard of that company (not really a surprise, tho)

  • Mahnarch

Just noticed: What’s with the funky number system on this one?

I updated my toolbar link and clicked it. Said 404.
Had to click “Back” to 297 and then forward to… 297-2.

    • ElectricGecko

I mistakenly named it 297, then had to go back and edit it. I can change the post title, but WordPress doesn’t make it easy to change the permalink once it’s set. So yeah. Looks like I’m stuck with it.

  • Greg White

I wonder what punishment they’ll get if they get caught.

  • Sam

Shnorf Village is brought to you by Cybertron? … hmm… maybe that explains the cave. The woodland village is a transformer. 😛

  • hasel

Brought to you by… Cyberdyne!! RUN.

    • ElectricGecko

I was trying for a simultaneous Transformers/Terminator/Strongbad reference with the name ‘Cybagron’. It was a lofty goal.

  • Greg White

I think Miranda will be very pretty when she’s older.

  • Listen to her, Tyler before you get “Kerrigan’ed”

    😀

  • SalemCat

PUBLIC ALERT: Update from the Daphne-Bashing Unit:

That Daphne, she is a real …umm

That Daphne, she reminds me of ….ok

Daphne’s “freakish lower lip will forever be the most off-putting thing.”

    THAT’S IT !!!!

    • ComedyHobo

Wow Salem…. just wow. No wonder you couldn’t hack it in the DBU, (Daphne Bashing Unit). That totally lacked SotiCoto’s venomous and vitriolic verbiage.
      EGADS!

  • Jenifer

I remember Tonya Harding. Shortly after she was discovered to have Nancy injured, Saturday Night Live had a hilarious skit where “Tonya” was doing an ad for “The Club” which at that time was an anti-car theft device that locked on the steering wheel.
