From my personal experience, roller coasters feel like they last an eternity … as long as you’re actually paying attention. It’s sort of like a bullet-time Matrix experience: the adrenaline rush slows everything down. But in real time, most of them are over shockingly fast. Blink and you’ll miss it.

Interesting roller coaster car design. Like captain’s chairs, two in a row of 4 or 5 for a car. It seems to be designed so that there doesn’t seem to be any confines between your speeding senses and the world its moving you through.
It’s a pretty great ride, all said and told.
Phoebe had her top commissioned specifically for her by the only fashion designer to have also worked for NASA, the FBI and NASCAR.
Only the best for her. Though NASA told her it needed more coverage if she planned on going into space.

The blow was more of a backfist than a hook, but an ancient fairy of lore balances that by correctly using “battery” (an unwanted or offensive touching) instead of “assault” (the threat of battery), so it’s all good.
Meanwhile, has Phoebe Learned A Valuable Lesson About Overcoming Your Fears? What an inspiring and unlifting denoument’ that would be … Schnorf Mountain may be ashes and the four other main characters may be feeling the weight of their transgressions, but the one innocent adult in this adventure comes out ahead … although Phoebe’s outfight and employment suggest a new meaning to the word “innocent”.
Hey, someone needs to come out of this okay. And Phoebe got the worst of it from the last story arc, I’d say, so balance!
Voting incentive: Well… I’m somehow not surprised Tracee has a ball and chain (especially given her attitude… And the fact it says it’s an “elf improvent corner,” so yeah).
Comic: I agree on the fact that if you don’t pay attention, the ride is over quite quickly. If you’re like *me*, then you’re gonna wonder how many eternities are gonna pass before you’re done…
I recall riding one that was supposed to last for – I think – 10 minutes or so (it’s been about 10 years since I rode it so my memory’s hazy). When I got off, I felt as if I had aged a few years (due to paying *way* too much attention).
So Phoebe somehow survived it, Puck’s feeling fine-ish, Tyler and Daphne’s still in “jail” (in lack of a better word) and Colin is… Probably looking for Miranda.
Now I’m curious what the readers thinks is more likely:
A) He’ll find Miranda, Puck won’t find out he lost her to begin with (I realize how unlikely this is, but he might convince Daphne and Tyler – somehow – NOT to tell).
B) He’ll find Miranda and Puck will find out (most likely due to Daphne and Tyler telling her).
C) Puck finds Miranda there and gets pissed at Colin for letting her show up there to begin with.
D) Any combination of the above.
Ten minutes is WAY too long for a roller coaster. And I think the chances of Puck not finding out about lost baby are exactly 0%. Where’s the fun in that?
You could have Colin worrying about *when and if* Puck will find out. It does not spread the agony out. It makes more piles. Surely, you are an evil enough author that you could go for such a thing.

There are always the helicopter females. “Inhuman Relations” right. Although that one was a seat belt strap.
I actually totally forgot about that story arc. But yeah. Here the shiner is more just an accessory to the whole ensemble.
I used to love roller coasters, I live in Texas right by Six Flags. That’s is until I noticed that you stand in line for 90 minutes for a 30 second ride. After that they just stopped being fun.
Yeah, but if you were to go to an amusement park and be able to ride endless rides with no line-ups, you’d end up feeling a little … off. I had that experience once at the park (sort of) shown here. The weather was crummy, it was early in the season, and my brother and I went with an uncle to the park really early in the day. No one was there. We rode about twenty-two rides in an hour, and it basically finished us off for the rest of the day. There’s a reason they’ve got those lines.
Of course, Six Flags and the like now have ‘Flash Pass’ where you can pay to bypass lines. I’m not going to express what I think about that. But I have thoughts.
Yeah I hit a day like that as well, got to ride the Texas Giant 3 times in a row same spot. And then hopped over to a different one. The adrenaline ups and downs wears you out quickly. But personally I would rather leave the park tried after two hours but being able to ride 10-20 times. Rather than leave the park tired after 10 hours and only be able to ride 4-5 rides.
As for the pay to go to the front of the line well that’s just god awful. I don’t wish ill on those who take advantage of it since it is there. The executive who implemented it though that’s another story.
Same. On this actual roller coaster depicted in this comic (or the real-life equivalent), there’s actually a ‘pay ten bucks right here to jump the enormous line’ booth over and above any of the ‘flash pass’ things that get you to the front of the line on other rides. And though I hate it, it’s always sort of tempting… I refuse on principle, though.
To both EG and Mike: IIRC, Disney (and/or one of the other chains) was going to implement a “virtual line” system…You download an app, virtually “queue up,” the app would give you a time to arrive, and you’d be in a much shorter line (theoretically). Have either of you used said system? If so, did it work? I imagine you both NOT using it if there was an additional fee, but I don’t remember there being one (or they just skipped that detail in the ad).
I’ve never used it. I’d be happy to adopt that concept. If I had a cell phone.
Growing up; we lived within earshot of ‘Michigan Adventure’ (“Two parks for the price of one!”) so, of course, every time we had guests we had to go.
I was on a first name basis with all the workers and usually got in for free – cuz they knew I was sick of it halfway through the season.
That’s a sweet deal. I don’t think they extend the same courtesy at Disneyland, no matter how bored you are of the place.
My cousin used to work at Disney (Orlando) and he can confirm that.
They’re pretty strict there.
If you’re a mascot walking around the park, you can get fired for talking.
No scaring the kids by making Mickey swear like a trucker? They take all the fun out of work.
In boxing terms that punch is closer to an uppercut than a hook, but yeah, some of those roller-coaster rides are so short it begs belief that people would wait for 90 minutes and beyond to ride them… I hate the ones that are too short of the speeds and energy obtained from them that the braking system at the end of the ride is the most extreme thing going for the ride.
The Top Gun/Flight Zone ride gets a pass on this complaint simply because I think there still no way it comes close to the needed braking power of a carrier deck landing…
I find I get sort of bored of a roller coaster at about the two minute mark, so that’s my target length. And yeah, the punch was technically a backhand but it just doesn’t sound as iconic as ‘left hook’.
But – that’s the almost patented “Bat-Punch” The sucker punch that Batman uses to knocks out any villain coming up from directly behind him in the newer (from BAS days) Batman cartoons…

“Backfist” is what it’s known by in martial arts vernacular.
(Although Batman’s version would be the rarer “no-look backfist” that tends not to happen in a real fight except by accident.)

Yes and no. One of the airbases I lived at originally did have the cables laid out for any Canadian Forces Trackers that wanted to land there from HMCS Magnificent and/or Bonaventure, However both where decommissioned by the time I was around.
Got a ride in a Widowmaker-D once. 140 to O knots in 2 miles with the drag chute deployed…

Okay. I don’t know if anyone’s asked this yet but, how is Phoebe riding that roller coaster with her glasses on? Every roller coaster I ever rode made me take mine off.
My daughter wears glasses. She’s been on a bunch of crazy coasters and never lost them. (We’ve gotten a head strap for them, just in case, but it’s never been a problem.)
Well, it HAS been a long time since the last time I rode a roller coaster. So, maybe things have changed since then.
Most roller coasters aren’t a problem because the air current presses the glasses against your face. Glasses are more susceptible to currents flowing upward or from behind. We’ve never been on any reverse coasters, so maybe that might be a greater danger.
Phoebe really is sweet. High school must have been rough.
