Why are Phoebe’s glasses RED in Panel 3 and BLACK elsewhere ?
Picky, small, untalented creatures need to know.
Because the pics in all the other panels are too small for me to properly draw an outline around the glasses. Unlike pretty much every other webcomic out there, I’m drawing this stuff with ink. On paper. And as such, I’m sadly held back by the practical issues of scale. I can’t zoom in and suddenly get all the space I need to do the fine work. If I tried to draw an outline of glasses, with a space in the middle to cover, the end result would be a cluttered and poorly drawn mess. So in long or medium shots, Phoebe’s glasses are often simplified. In close-ups I can better show the color and design of the glasses in detail.

I only draw it by hand because I don’t have the tech or the practice/skills to use a tablet. I’m forced to use ancient methods mainly because I’m ancient.

Sometimes, old school is the best school. Like with CGI in a movie, you can tell the difference between digital art and paper art if you know what you’re looking for.
Nothing wrong with digital artists, mind you. It’s much easier to correct mistakes or add lots of detail when you’re not restricted by paper size.
True. Though I envy the incredible abilities of the digi-draw people. It makes some things so easy. It’s WAY easier, for instance, to draw gesture drawings and basic plans for a pose when you’re doing it on a small scale. However, it’s way easier to draw details on a huge scale. The way I work, on paper, I need to sacrifice one of those elements. (Mostly I just work in the nebulous middle zone and hope for the best, with pic sizes that are neither large nor small.) I envy the digital wizardry of others.

Although it’s also about the only cancer joke I’ve heard. Do cancer survivors have their own Book of Quips from which we will now sample? (If not: Kickstarter opportunity!)
The movement of patterns on Phoebe’s garments, or the change in apparent color in her glasses, have never bothered me for a big reason and for a small reason. The small reason is that she is so inherently magical a critter that stuff just happens around her — chiefly, clothing stays on her that seems destined to fall off — and pattern changes are just part of the magic that, like Daphne’s ears, are never explained. Never.
The big reason is that you don’t really notice the frame on the Mona Lisa.
I’m not sure whether we’re really in for cancer jokes, per se, but there was much humor to my experience. Maybe the serious nature of the disease made me more attuned to the inherent ridiculousness of various things, but comedy was certainly there.
It also depends on the cancer survivor, too. My mom had problems before, and she was never one to find humor in a situation that wasn’t obviously humorous to begin with.
She is stronger than I thought, though. She said, when I first talked to her after her cancer was cut out, that she wasn’t going to spend the next decade and a half worrying about whether or not the cancer would come back, something that I would have done if I were in her situation.
True. Very true. It is my nature to find the absurd in most situations. It’s a coping mechanism to get through life. It sounds like your mother has the fortitude of character needed to face the bad stuff head on, without the need to insert a laugh. I’m not there, and likely never will be.
That doesn’t sound like her, but you may be right. Still, she’s still doing something that’s always irritated me about her and blaming her cancer for being a horrible mother.
Yeah, I don’t get along with her, but she’s too messed up in the head to realize that. Which, in and of itself, sad.
I know lotsa cancer jokes. Wanna hear? I thought not. How about heart attack and stroke jokes. Trauma jokes? They’re a dime a dozen

They’re really small, and somewhat hard (by design – they’re not stale). They do have a lot of flavor and take a lot time to chew.
Probably good for someone on a diet, as they satisfy, and after a short time your jaw tires of them. Yeah, a box probably could last an entire Movie.

I unequivocally love Phoebe’s insanely ignorant nature, though only because it’s not willful ignorance. She has not chosen to remain uninformed about the world; rather, she’s been allowed by her unusual upbringing to remain blissfully unaware about a great many things. And it’s probably just in her nature to pay closer attention to the colors of a sign than the words contained on said sign, and that contributes to the problem. I find it endearing, but I can see why some would find it infuriating.
I think it’s no fun if we have characters that don’t have massive, glaring flaws.
So when will Colin start getting treatments?
He will see the surgeon shortly.

Re: Phloeble’s outfit. I can’s see why the peekaboo cutout stays teardrop-shaped if it is attached to her neck. Seems like it would pull out of shape unless stiffened by plastic or something. And I can’t understand why she is wearing gloves at all. Not even eensie-beansie Michael Jackson gloves, but going-to-the-opera-in-Haight-Ashbury-circa-1968 gloves
I don’t know, elbow length gloves on a woman can be pretty darn visually appealing, and Phoebe’s attire is usually eye catching (to say the least!)…
