JUNE VOTING INCENTIVE READY TO BE INTERCEPTED!!! I asked my fine patrons on Patreon about the nouns they wanted to see in a voting incentive. Then I collected them all, put them to a chaotic vote, and am going to spend the next while making those noun dreams a reality through crazy voting incentives! VOTE TO SEE NOUNS BY THE POUNDS!!! As for this comic... If I had my way, 93% of the jokes in Puck would be Stooge-based. But I know that most of the world does not share my peculiar obsession with a comedy team that is now almost a century old, so I hold back. Most of the time. A man can only hold back so long, though...

Are there no corners that connect to side streets? Omg, what has Canada wrought from poutine at Burger King and sugar pie?

Although, I’m kind of curious where the artistic license leads. But seriously, make Colin retake his driving test in that van.

    • ElectricGecko

This is a weird rural road that seemingly has no intersections. Funny that.

      • Miles

In the USA that is not abnormal in places that are less than cities.

        • Pat

Shhhhh, I know that. But I also know how to turn a vehicle around on a two lane blacktop with no shoulder.

          • ElectricGecko

Without coming to a stop or touching that clutch? THAT I gotta see.

          • David Nuttall

Quite likely that this rural road is just a gravel road. No black-top around, unless someone dropped oil on it (a common dust/plant management technique).

          • Pat

Well, that is a bit more difficult but doable.

          • Rural roads like that are the only place I’ve ever performed a drift in real life (successfully, and on purpose).
I’m not a reckless driver. In fact I’m a very GOOD driver.

I was being tailgated by this asshole in a pickup. I’d had my turn signal on for a good third of a minute, giving him lots of extra time to realize I’d need to slow down to turn off. He didn’t back off in the slightest, so close behind me I didn’t feel I could slow down even a little without connecting with him.
Either he was just deciding to be a jackass or he was so far up my ass he literally couldn’t see the turn signals flashing past his own hood (which does not preclude his jackass status, of course). Either way, the only solution I could think of was to take my turn at speed, drifting through the gravel.

Worked exactly as I wanted it to, but all the same, I’d rather not have to do it again.

I loved the three stooges and the Marx Brothers.

Also, it wasn’t my birthday but I can’t thank you enough.. that compilation wasn’t a thing I even knew I could want.

  • And the prize for best (and most accurate) diss goes to Daphne. ^_^

Please, please, please – we are going to end this with an unmasking and a meddling kids comment? You can’t not!

  • Gwen Cooper

Please don’t used the name of Jesus as a profanity. Thank you.

    • ElectricGecko

I don’t want to offend anyone, but this is a comic where Satan is literally one of the main characters. The entire comic is objectively, proudly profane. I honestly thought I’d scared off all my devout readers long ago.

      • Frank Harr

I’d thought it was a prayer. A fairly sincere one given her evident exasperation.

      • demarion

I opine it’s entirely possible Puck knew Jesus Christ . . . possibly not in the Biblical sense . . . either way, that could explain much . . . after all, the Holy Grail is rumoured to be in England . . . and whom (see what I did there?) better than Puck to protect it until JayCee returns, eh? That is, if she hasn’t forgotten where she put it last . . .

  • Frank Harr

The hairs (hares, airs, people who inherited their stuff) of the Stooges are going strong and have a webpage and everything where they post the work of the team as it falls out of copyright.

I think they’re still fairly popular.

Can Moe be bought for $20? Probably. But only because she wanted to anyway.

    • Frank "Note Spellnig" Harr

Oh! I forgot to say! Yesterday, I was voting for web comics and Phoebe showed up as a human verifier. Verifyer. Thing where you have to click on the button that corresponds to what it says in the thing.

      Anyway, it was cool.

    • ElectricGecko

Well, $20 in 1930’s money bought a lot of stuff. Though I suppose that makes no sense.

      • Frank Harr

Well, they were chronically and criminally underpaid for their work. It’s terrible.

        • ElectricGecko

It was the bad old days of Hollywood. A textbook case of how to get utterly fleeced, sadly. They did fine in the end and fortunately Moe and Larry didn’t end up penniless in their old age, but that was primarily due to the good will of the public and the support they got for later projects. They didn’t see a dime from the original shorts in their later years, despite being broadcast constantly on television for many decades.

          • Frank Harr

            Moe was a smart one.

They didn’t own the movies, so that would have been hard. They should have been paid more up front, as they were keeping that entire division of Columbia afloat, and actors should get SOMETHING more if the thing they made turns out to be really popular.

          • ElectricGecko

Their contract to Columbia was insane. Stipulated in their contract was the rule that their films and likenesses could be used by Columbia in any existing medium or any medium yet to be invented. Seriously. This meant that television royalties were out. When the Stooges game came to the NES, their families didn’t get squat. When the Three Stooges will inevitably come to brain implant hyper reality…

            You get the picture.

          • Frank Harr

“Their contract to Columbia was insane. Stipulated in their contract was the rule that their films and likenesses could be used by Columbia in any existing medium or any medium yet to be invented.”

I’ve done some reading and that actually feels pretty normal. It is limited in time, but it’s limited by copyright. Eventually, all the work of the Stooges will be things no one owns any more.

          • Frank Harr

            Sorry, I forgot,

Work for hire is typically owned by the company that hired the artist. There’s a long list of things to consider when a judge decides if the work is work for hire or not, but in this case, it was clearly work for hire.

That said, that doesn’t mean that the contract wasn’t exploitative, it was. And it doesn’t mean that Columbia didn’t lie to them to get them to sign, they did. And it doesn’t cover moral rights, which is only now becoming a thing in U.S. law. I just wanted to make that point.

By the way, Puck is clearly NOT work for hire.

          • ElectricGecko

Puck is clearly not work for hire. Because if someone hired me to do this, I’d like to meet them. And ask them why they aren’t paying me.

      • rewinn

Didn’t Puck canonically develop her sense of money several centuries ago? perhaps Daphne knows Puck still thinks of a Penny as a thing of value?

  • McManx

Stooges and Puck… sort of the daily double of comic mayhem.

  • sigpig

Now you have me contemplating a “Stooge-Con”.
The question is, will iggy Pop and his band get back together for this?

  • DMC_Run

    Re_”Vote Incentive”:
    2_Thoughts:

    1)__You left-out “Pole Dancing”. I see what Phoebe’s doing with that trident! … 😛

2)__While I’m happy with this, I’m aware that some “TROLLS” are never satisfied — they’ll doubtless whine that they were hoping for a different KIND of “beaver”.
My point is, DON’T_GIVE_IN to the Trolls — it’s NOT that kind of webcomic, & if they don’t like it?
Let ’em pound sand, while they ‘klik’ over to some other (more ‘X-rated’) webcomic. You’re better-off without that kind of headache!

    • ElectricGecko

I actually think the depicted beaver was, indeed, the one intended because the suggester listed it along with maple syrup and hockey sticks.

And yeah, this comic is not that kind of comic. Some people might think they want it to be that kind of comic. But if it ever became that kind of comic, I think they’d be disappointed.

  • SalemCat

I am entirely satisfied with the Voting Incentive.

Especailly that EG seems, now, to have mastered the art of drawing High Heels.

    Well Done !

    • ElectricGecko

I am glad that you are satisfied.

I have achieved something momentous in doing so.

    • Valkeiper2020

I’ve been reading another webcomic in which the artist basically gave up on trying to get high heels ‘right’.

Instead, she changed the entire idea.
Now (if the heel needs to be elevated), she starts the ‘heel’ from the front of the shoe (the toes/balls) and extends it backwards.
      Makes for an interesting scene.

      • ElectricGecko

I don’t know if I’m successful or not at drawing them. As per usual, I just stumble through drawing most things, usually without reference pics to go from, because I’m low on time or lazy. When
I get things right, it’s usually by accident.

        • Valkeiper2020

Well, you are far greater ‘by accident’ than I would be ‘on purpose’.
I talking not only about the pictures but the story-line.

All I can say (and I’m sure there are many people who agree)..
          “Keep up the great work”

        • For me, it’s not the heels but the eyes, with that half-closed, sideways look that we know she’s fully capable of, but never has deployed onscreen.

          They definitively Incentive Eyes.

          • ElectricGecko

Well, I think that’s a bit of acting there to play the role set by the pitchfork. In actuality I think whatever is being suggested through those eyes is likely something that Phoebe is decidedly not capable of.

But it’s fun to pretend, right?

        • Frank Harr

“In actuality I think whatever is being suggested through those eyes is likely something that Phoebe is decidedly not capable of.”

Analytic geometry? I know, I can’t do it either.

Or do you mean one of the more exotic cable stitches? I’m sure with practice, she’ll get there.

        • Frank Harr

“She can do the exotic cable stitches. That I’m sure of.”

          🙂

          • ElectricGecko

Well, Phoebe’s knitting prowess is mostly based off my wife’s. And my wife can knit a complex fisherman’s sweater with the best of them.

        • Frank Harr

“Well, Phoebe’s knitting prowess is mostly based off my wife’s. And my wife can knit a complex fisherman’s sweater with the best of them.”

          You’re a very lucky man.

  • Pat N

I think a good Neee-yuk, yuk, yuk is in order

  • demarion

An immortal fairy, the daughter of Satan, a teen-age human/wheaten terrier cross. a human bouncy ball (Colin), a teen-age human male, and the future Empress of Earth . . . so, y’know, jinkies! . . .

  • Commander Clash

“There’s an unwritten code in Canada if you know ot you’ve…gone on a roadtrip in a vehicle that has no business going on a roadtrip.

  • Frank Harr

You know, give that despite the face her name is on the comic and she’s neither driving nor navigating, I’m going to say . . . Puck. Puck did it. Puck put ’em in charge.

I’d say thank goodness because this way we get a story, but Puck navigating or driving would be a whole different level of chaos. Not necessarily more or less, but different.

  • mermaidan

Hummina! Hummina! Hummina! Phoebe, beaver and maple syrup. My head is exploding.

    • ElectricGecko

I’m glad someone’s head exploded. The reaction to this voting incentive has been more muted than I was hoping for. Personally speaking, I was quite happy with this one.

  • Justin

The Phoebe Votey gives me tingles
    in my pants

    Ny-Uk, Ny-Uk, Ny-Uk!!! :))
