This is about the furthest extent of ‘university humour’ as it was used in the strip. I tried to shy away from ‘academic comedy’, but it slips in now and again. This one takes a pot shot at the Humanities (which, if you’re confused, is the broad category which includes literature, history, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, etc.). I was, as you can guess, a Humanities student.
“Well, I recently, um, came under the possession of a small child, and I’m seeking to increase my earning power to make ends meet.”
“Fortunately for you, we have an excellent Sweatshop Management program.”
Highly illegal … yet profitable!
Not that it matters in any way, but anthropology and sociology are not humanities. They’re considered a “social science,” because in those fields you conduct experiments and do other types of research. But seriously, it doesn’t matter, I just thought I’d mention it.
Yeah, I guess you’re right. Though social science (at myuniversity, anyway) garnered you even less respect than being in Humanities. Which I wouldn’t think possible.
Wow, how many years since I read your Puck (1998 ? No way ! but i remember there was really few trip. Dam you for make you feeling me old !) ?
I’m ashamed to say i forgot you (lives change, and all), these I started anew with all the archive.
Damn you, I remember everything !
Well, you found me on dA, right? I started posting Puck on dA around 2009 or so — the old ones. New ones started in 2011. And you’re old. Like me. Deal with it!
Sorry for all the spelling errors.
Ironic that you mention that the only prerequisite is ‘being human’ when Puck is, in fact, not human.
Nah, she’s studying humans, in all our stupid glory. I don’t think you need to be human to take humanities. In fact, I remember several classmates that proved it.
OH, THE HUMANITIES!
Says the History Ed major.
*reading panel two*…wait, she got possessed by that small child?!
Curse you, dated diction!
Haha excellent!
Humanities woo hoo! (Guess who else majored in it?) 😉
It’s the noble choice.
Little does she know . . .
Language major.
You speak from experience then.
