Chapter: The Old OnesCharacters: Colin DaphneTags: colin daphne humor video game webcomic
Not much to say about this one. It’s another play on the Daphne ‘cuteness vs. cynicism’ thing. Colin’s responses make the strip, I think. Sort of a ‘funny heh heh’ rather than a ‘funny ha ha’ joke, but the odd slow pitch needs to sneak in there now and then.

I’ve gotta say, that Daphne creature’s underbite is just plain… creepy.
Between that, the posture and the lidded eyes, she looks more than a tad… slow. Short-bus sorta slow… y’know? =/

    • ElectricGecko

I can’t really defend the bad character design here. Bit of an issue.

      • SotiCoto

        I guess it… y’know… happens.

I’ve come back after several years, see the character again, and remember why I went almost 3 years before looking back for updates: that creature.

        • Sandia

Think you can manage another 3 years away?

SotiCoto was SO good at bashing Daphne.

I tried replacing him in the Daphne-Bashing Unit, but was let go when my supervisor realized I could not match the master, and that I had resorted to simply repeating SotiCoto’s old barbs.

            I miss him….

Fortunately I came along. Seriously, the daphne simply BEGS to be bashed. It is a malignancy in this comic that cannot be excised. That horrid creature exists solely to spread it’s cancerous visage across the world. I mean, just look at that LIP!!!!

SotiCoto may have invented the fine art of Daphne Bashing, but he lacked the will to see the task through to the end.

            @CH

            True.

SotiCoto was reluctant to wade into the deep waters.

            Well Done CH !

        @EG

Yes, we all realize you were very pressed for time as a student.

And your artistic talents were also under development; pretty good but a mere shadow of your current work.

That said, although many bemoan Daphne’s lack of an upper lip, LOOK AT PANEL 3 of 5.

There’s an upper lip – for sure !!

Yet in the next panel – GONE.

Apparently the creature has an ability to extend and retract it at will.

        Amazing – yet horrifying.

(sorry EG, CH is just such an inspiration to me, I felt compelled to do a gratuitous Daphne-Bash myself)

        • ElectricGecko

Panel 3 of 5: those are teeth. (Supposed to be teeth, anyway. Refer to ‘bad art’ part of discussion for further info.)

  • SalemCat

Huh ? Why am I up ? It’s not Noon.

Oh, it’s him. Bellowing “$150 !! Highway Robbery, that’s what it is ! I can do the job in five minutes with a Scissors and a Band-aid.”

    I’m going back to bed.

    (1998 – so cozy)

  • Daphne’s learning early to be a manipulative woman, isn’t she? LOL.

    • ElectricGecko

I’m not sure it’s a learning process. It’s more that she was born a manipulative con.

      • Well, either Daphne’s older than she looks or Colin just ain’t very bright, since ‘Nam ended 25 years before this strip was posted. LOL.

BTW, you’re right about Daphne being born a manipulative con. LOL.

        • ElectricGecko

Well, I think Colin is just playing along. And the impossibility of her father dying in ‘Nam was very much intended.

          • T'Renn

Well, technically, Daphne never mentioned the Vietnam WAR, just the country. So should anyone everh have questioned her blatantly obvious lie, she could just switch to a less easily checked lie.

Hey, she was young. She was still developing her dissembling skill. Nowadays I’m sure she can weave completely plausible and internally consistent lies at a moment’s notice.

          • ElectricGecko

True. This was only the start of the monster.

  • Shadowkey392

    Oooh, Dap is good.

  • Frank H.

How is that something she even knows about?!?!?!

    Collin becomes her favorite.
