I insist it is everyone ELSE over there who drives on the wrong side.

    • ElectricGecko

That would make total sense if the steering wheel were on the other side of the car.

      • Kevin

But it’s not. It’s called the RIGHT side of the road for a reason! ๐Ÿ™‚

        • ElectricGecko

There you go. Real reason? I totally forgot about road directions and it was too late to change it.

        • SotiCoto

Just keep in mind two things:

#1. Driving on the left (as we do in Britain) was a hold-over from the days when travellers would walk on the left side of the roads when passing each other… because most people are right-handed, and they needed to keep their swordarm sides toward each other to protect against attack.

#2. Napoleon was left-handed. HE was the one that changed certain countries to fit his left-handedness. And yes, the United States and Canada got in on that nonsense.

So just remember… driving on the right side only makes sense if you’re left-handed.

      • Maybe he got lost and thinks he’s in Oz or GB or something like that. Dunno about the big American car with the wheel on the wrong side, though.

        • ElectricGecko

The wheel’s not on the wrong side. The drawing in panel two is just wonky. It sort of looks like the driver’s sitting on the wrong side, but check panel one. It’s a left-side vehicle.

            OMG.

Listen, this is “Cartoon-Land”, where all Steering wheels are in the CENTER of the car, and everyone drives down the CENTER of the Road.

Problem – SOLVED (wiping hands in satisfaction)

          • ElectricGecko

            I like your solution.

You know Gecko, there are not that many one-way residental streets in Hamilton that are narrow enough for two car lanes, specially that’s downwind of the steel mills with the houses on an west-east alignment… So the question is, is your version of Stelco/US steel producing product or not? Cause if it is, I can almost guess your models of the block where Puck and the gang live.

    • ElectricGecko

Stelco WAS producing product when the strip restarted. Not sure if that’s changed or not in the fictional universe … yet. I certainly wasn’t trying to emulate any particular street, but I’d be all ears if you had some plausible guesses. The houses themselves are actually modeled on the wartime one-and-a-halves you’ll find tons of on the east mountain, especially in the East 20th to East 30th stretch. I’m sort of playing fast and loose with the housing designs and the neighborhood, though they’ve got the same house designs down there too.

Assuming: 1) They live on a very narrow one way street (from the strip where Satan was beaten up by Puck- the car is in the curb lane 2) Puck’s backyard windows face the steel mills.

Proven: Puck lives downwind of the Steel mills (near the start of the strip)

If Stelco’s cracking, then the normal west to east winds might put them on the west side of either Frederick or Robins Avenue between Campbell and Barton would be my guess.

A North wind could easily blow stuff from the other Steel plant into their house on the north side of Britannia from Kenilworth to Park Row.

As to the one and a half story houses, well the houses in the area would be wartime or post war….

Hey, I don’t mind you using a real street in your Hamilton. A Fake Street Address that Phoebe would like – for example 666 for a North-South street would be nice…

Errr, not my neck of the woods at all. Closest A&W and Harvey’s to me, that’s all….

    • ElectricGecko

Your geography and logic is impeccable. But I think I would avoid ever stating their street unless I had to, and I certainly wouldn’t want to identify a REAL street, given the somewhat tarnished view of the ‘hood that I present here. Don’t want to insult anyone.

  • I really hope she kills him.

Before this comic, I read Satans’ voice as a sly hissing. But, after reading him yelling through the bullhorn as J.K. Simmons as J.J.J.*, Satan has a new, permanent voice.

    *from Spider-Man

    • ElectricGecko

I imagine him having a voice like a slightly less bombastic and more sly version of J.K. Simmons. But I think we’re on the same page.

  • Well, as Meat Loaf said a long time ago, “Two out of three ain’t bad”. LOL.
