NINTENDO + PUCK = OBSCURE NINTENDO COSPLAY!!! You click? I click! WE ALL CLICK ON AMAZING NEW VOTING INCENTIVE! Seriously, though, April Fool’s is over and the joke incentive has been replaced by a new pic featuring a Puck cast member cosplaying as some obscure(ish) character from the wide world of Nintendo! The key word is ‘obscure’ here, though, so no Mario. Click to join the Nintendo Fun Club today, Mac! As for the comic… I really wanted to have the last panel show Colin trying to dance, but the limited space in an already crowded panel made the reality of that impossible. Such is life in a four-panel strip. But if he did dance, he totally would have danced ‘the monkey’.

This is probably the worst possible time for this happen. Puck’s “cosplaying” doesn’t exactly do her any favors and the interactions between the family members isn’t helping.

That being said, Puck scaring Colin is freaking hilarious.

  • Dan

If there is justice Puck go to jail and Colin(what-a-wimp) divorces her for abuse as the child is raised by sane people.

    • ElectricGecko

There is not justice in this world.

      • Susan Schroeder

Yay! We need mercy, not justice

Puckpoo: you are in a hole, so stop digging already

      • Dan

Finding myself cheering for government intervention is not a familiar place and frankly disturbing.
Common theme among modern comedy is to use despicable people doing despicable things. Just not funny any longer as reality catches up to that view. Heck dont even watch family guy any longer… just is not funny.

        • ElectricGecko

Well, I’d tend to agree with you on that. And so personally, I try to draw a line somewhere above the ‘despicable’ point. Puck and company manifest the worst parts of me, but for me (at least) they remain at least a little sympathetic. They wind up in situations that I don’t find myself in regularly, but might find myself in on my worst day. However, some people feel that this comic is just a carnival sideshow of awful people doing awful things, and I’m guessing those people are far better human beings than I.

          • The leads here don’t seem to be awful, just awfully flawed.
Daphne hasn’t grown a conscience yet, Puck is a well-meaning bully (e.g. she pushes Phoebe around for her own good), their boyfriends are wusses. Comedy ensues!
I don’t know what would happen if they ever grew out of those flaws.

          • ElectricGecko

Well, they can always grow new ones.

    • Shan

They were never married so that’s one problem solved already.

    • ComedyHobo

      THE ARE NOT MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • aaron

indeedely it sure is im waiting for puck too write a few paragraphs for colin and daphne, now write on comic slave /cracks whip(jk)

  • My family unit communicates in the language of angry video game complaints. Lots of “you made me waist my bullets!”, “No fair, my controller is sticky!” and tons of “Who let the 9 year old play?!”

  • Wyvern

So what was the April Fool’s joke incentive?

  • Hasn’t Colin been dancing to Puck’s commands since, well, always really?

Maybe this is an Ancient Fairy of Lore’s modern way of doing “La Sacre du Printemps” only much tackier.

  • Eggderped321

    Okay i giggled at the ‘Colin hitting Puck’ PUCK fearing COLIN would be a reverse world. This woman obviously never read the Hospital indecent files where a nurse ran running screaming ‘ THE GOODFELLOW WOMAN WILL KILL US ALL!’ * cackles evilly * this is one of my favorites |:}

    • ElectricGecko

You hear that phrase in the newspaper all the time: “So-and-so is known to police.” I have a feeling that Puck would be known to police and pretty much all other emergency responders by now. Like, known on a first name basis.

      • Eggderped321

I think so too. They’d probably have lunch or something like that, her and Daphne should be well known in the police community. And in hospitals there would most likely be in the box ‘Cause of injury’ there would just be a stamp with Puck’s name on it…

  • Kaiser

To be honest, I would probably doubt Puck’s remark about it being Phoebe that (accidentally) gave Puck the black eye – at least if I didn’t know what they were like.
Speak in the language of terror? That’s… A truth with modification – they also speak in lies (Daphne).

    • ElectricGecko

Truly, for those who know the characters, the explanation that it was Phoebe is even less believable.

And how come no one speaks the language of pizza? Or chocolate? Or chocolate-covered pizza? I’d take that night class if it were offered.

      • Nick Manly

My family speaks in the languages of bad jokes, snark, and recipes. So we’re multi-lingual!

        • ElectricGecko

The language of recipes sounds pretty good, really. Though I guess it’s determined by the nature and quality of the recipes.

          • Nick Manly

Well, I can’t say I’m not biased, but when my mom speaks with cinnamon rolls, dear lord they are godly.

          • ElectricGecko

Speaking the language of cinnamon rolls is, perhaps, the sweetest, bestest language of all.

  • Looks like they’re all gonna wind up with state-appointed guardians…

    • eldestdawn

yes but the guardians will be guarding themselves more than the family members they are supposed to look out for. or their belongings in the case of Daphne.

  • demarion

Well . . . on the plus side it isn’t Colin who is the Genghis Khan of stupidity any longer . . .

  • Mark

Is Tyler looking at the social worker’s ass?

    • ElectricGecko

Probably. (Looks at panel one again.) Definitely.

    • Ha! I didn’t notice that, but now it’s obvious. He *is* after all a single guy. A little bit of the ol’ Mrs. Robinson?

      • ElectricGecko

And we’ve established through multiple comics that he has a propensity for staring at hindquarters of females. But I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a character trait, given the fact that I’m pretty sure its a propensity that most teenage males have. (And adult males; we just learn to be stealthier about it.)

  • sigpig

“Dingbat” is a term that is not used often enough these days (unless you watch reruns of “All In the Family”)…

    • ElectricGecko

‘Dingbat’ is a term I quite like, and I think it nicely describes Phoebe. She’s not an idiot, exactly, or a moron. Her issue is not a lack of intelligence, but more a disconnect between said intelligence and the world at large. Dingbat, I think, encapsulates that concept nicely.

  • Greg White

I think Colin and Puck will be declared unfit parents and Miranda will be taken away from them.

  • DLKMusic

Ms, Chowdhury may have jumped to the wrong conclusion about Puck’s shiner, but her observation in panel 4? there is truth, and then there is TRUTH!!!!!

  • GhostlyYorick

Daphne just keeps smacking Puck around by “accident”, doesn’t she? That devil!: https://puckcomics.com/?comic=puck-54

Anyway, really great Puck-expression there in panel 3. Made me laugh 🙂

  • Formedras

Callie does NOT count as an obscure Nintendo character. Maybe ten years from now. But not now.
But here’s one that IS obscure. VERY obscure. Mike from Battle Clash and Metal Combat: Falcon’s Revenge.

    • ElectricGecko

Well, I did say ‘obscure-ish’. What I mean is that I didn’t hit up the usual suspects (Mario, Zelda, Link, Peach, Samus, etc.) and went for slightly more B-list characters. It’s walking the line of obscure yet recognizable.

  • Steve

Panel Four is PRICELESS!!!! “Dance, Monkey, Dance.” Pure genius.

    • ElectricGecko

To facilitate it, I needed to have Puck magically generate a cup out of thin air, but it was worth it, I think.

      • Shan

I get the principle of the characters doing things in the time between panels. Like the 24 TV series and bathroom breaks, presumably during the commercials or when the character’s off-screen.

        • ElectricGecko

I often need to be kind of loose with continuity between panels due to the constraints of the four-panel format. If I didn’t have the odd object pop into existence, or the odd character spontaneously relocate, it’d be hard to manage the narrative. Case in point: characters in this comic always move closer together when I’m doing a mid-shot, and farther apart when I’m doing a long shot. Even when they’re seated and shouldn’t theoretically move.

          • Shan

Well, that’s kind of my point in that there’s no break in continuity. What we’re always seeing is comparable to someone taking film of what’s going and then just cutting out selected frames to show us.

It’s how we still have some images left from otherwise missing Doctor Who episodes (google Doctor Who telesnaps or John Cura telesnaps for a fascinating walk down television memory lane).

Alternatively, all these things like Phoebe’s magically appearance phone or that cup just for starters are just being pulled out of hammerspace. Which would make for some very interesting footage if someone was filming *that*.

  • Susan Schroeder

About that voter incentive. I didn’t think it was possible for you to draw Phoebe as unattractive. Silly me.

  • Salem Cat

This #332, but is marked #232

  • Puck, ancient faerie of lore…. should get her IQ tested. >_<

  • Salem Cat

    Ahhh, sweet.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere we are in the GIRLIE MONTHS.

In other words, the three months that are very appropriate names for females.

    April – May – June

(Nothing whatever to do with this week’s strip)

  • Nborn

Why oh why doesn’t Colin have a beard? Oh. Sorry to confuse you there, I was talking about in the future.

  • Debra McKinney

Quick question what is Colin I’ve noticed he has abnormally sharp teeth so is he a vampire really just weird.

  • What are the odds of Colin being removed from this fearful environment?
Does Puck not realize that she’s contributing to this not so shallow hole? 😀

  • Frank Harr

It’s funnier if he doesn’t dance.

I guess Phoebe is the only one of this lot who doesn’t respond to standing in a hole by continuing to dig. I could have used that wisdom SO many times.
