Puck 308

Chapter: The Happiest Place in OntarioCharacters: Daphne Tyler (aka Taylor)Tags: Batman Canada's Funderland fire shnorfs
FOLLOW THE ADVENTURES OF LEGO PUCK!!! Puck has taken a vacation to the land of plastic bricks, and a new postcard from her travels will be arriving in the form of a voting incentive every few days! Things are bound to get wacky, so… VOTE BECAUSE YOU CAN! ALSO… As for the comic… For those who were expecting more on the Colin baby-napping front, all I can do is quote the venerable Dark Helmet: “FOOLED YOU!” As for Batman as a moral yardstick, I have to say that I’m a little mixed on the issue. On the one hand, I do agree with the growing criticism of the character, based on the fact that Bruce Wayne is really the most selfish dude on the planet. Instead of putting his vast stores of money toward fighting the root causes of crime (like income disparity, addiction, all that), he buys Batmobiles and punches desperate criminals in the face. That said, I can’t help but feel that Batman is cool on a primordial level, and I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I didn’t want to be Batman. When push comes to shove, though, I respect those that have heroes. And if your hero is Batman, then more power to you. I can’t judge; my hero is coffee. In other news, the more observant readers might notice that I’ve added actual legitimate chapters to the archive now. I grew to realize that Puck really does feature fairly contained story arcs that largely stand on their own, and having one giant chapter labelled ‘New Run’ wasn’t really cutting it. Hopefully it’s a little easier to navigate now.

      I suppose he does.

      • Rock

        Yeah, you tell her, Tyler!
Honestly, Daphne’s lack of care for possibly being guilty of manslaughter is appalling.

        • ElectricGecko

Well, in Daphne’s defense, if you think about it, there’s no rationale behind going to help. The place is billowing black smoke, which means tons of people will shortly be alerting the authorities. It looks more like a job for the fire brigade than two teens at this point. Yet still, emotionally, there’s this strong feeling in Tyler’s eyes that they need to do something, because they’re the proximate cause. And I’m with Tyler on that.

So yeah, Daphne is an appalling human being(?) but we sort of already knew that. She cares fiercely about the people in her own life, but is remarkably uncaring about strangers and the faceless multitude.

    • Perhaps a good hat would cover it.

    • Someone who unhesitantly and without any consideration, strictly follows a code of “morality” given to them by others… doesn’t really have his own opinions on morality, does he? He merely puppets back what he’s been taught.

By contrast, one who sometimes chooses to adhere to the popular “moral” path, and at other times chooses not to, is making moral decisions of her own all the time (considerably selfish ones, in this case, admittedly).

I therefore submit that SHE has far better right to voice an opinion on morality than he ever shall. It may be an awful opinion, but at least it’s her own.

  • I think there’s a typo in panel 1 – we need help them…

  • Greg White

I don’t blame Tyler for freaking out.

  • Batman is a good check. I usually go “What would Plastic Man do?”

    • ElectricGecko

Isn’t Plastic Man largely sort of amoral? Like, isn’t he a pseudo-reformed criminal or something?

      • pat

He’s a reformed criminal and marginally insane.

        • Valkeiper2012

well, he does stretch his limits, sometimes.
anyway, he’s a member of the JLA (or is it JLS?) who doesn’t hide his identity.

          • Mahnarch

He once disguised himself as a dress so a hot lady (I forget who) would wear him.
And, when she figured it out she couldn’t make him go away/kill him because she’d be naked in public. 😀

          • ElectricGecko

            I almost respect that.

          • hypnofetish

heck, I think Plastic Man even once ‘disguised’ himself as Wonder Woman, although with a bit over-zealously enhanced ‘assets’, still in his trademarked outfit.

          • Nick Manly

Personally, I go with WWDD. What would Deadpool do? Because there’s not enough Deadpool yet in this.

If they do what Deadpool would do, they’d wind up in Chicago in a room filled with Chimichangas and watching women’s beach volleyball.

          • ElectricGecko

Well, I’ll willingly admit that there isn’t enough women’s beach volleyball in this comic, so hey. I’d say you’re not wrong.

  • pat

Honestly, it’s far more better to teach people how to fish than top train them to stand in the fish and bread line every day. But that’s me.

Aaaaaand he’s more socially well adjusted to Gotham than the Joker.

    • ElectricGecko

Okay then, Bruce Wayne puts his massive resources into teaching people to fish. Happy?

      • Mahnarch

And then the Department of Fish & Wildlife comes around and makes everyone’s lives miserable – necessitating a need for a Batman against the DFW.

        It’s an endless cycle.

  • If your hero is Coffee, then WWCD has the answer:

    Get Drunk.

    (*rimshot*)

  • Ming the Merciless

At least he did not quote Spiderman in…Spidey is the freak they bring up in 4chan to kill a thread…

  • Kaiser

To be honest, Batman does give a ton of money to charity but I do agree he isn’t the BEST moral compass. Then again, if you have the option, be Batman. ALWAYS be Batman.

As for the comic, I’m somewhat disappointed in lack of Colin’s disappearing baby act (I’m gonna refer to it as that no matter what others says), but then again I was curious what was gonna happen with those two so all’s well that ends well, I suppose.

    So to sum it up:
Colin somehow lost Miranda after being gone for 30 seconds.
Puck and Phoebe are doing… Well, something. It’s pretty vague at the moment what they’re up to.
Meanwhile, Tyler and Daphne are well… Here.

I don’t see how this in any possible way can end on a bad note.

    • ElectricGecko

Well, the last story arc ended on a shockingly positive note, so I felt we needed to bring the characters down a bit. And that’s what you witness here.

  • Maybe he should ask what Papa Schnorf would do.

  • Brantford Dan

well I admire Tyler/Taylor for finally growing ‘a pair’ and standing up to Daphne I have a feeling she might end up roasting his said ‘pair’ over the fire she started. Dangerous taking on a crazy arsonist/super villian

    • ElectricGecko

Well, I think one can’t really underestimate Tyler’s hand here. I mean, here’s the thing: if you’re a super-villain’s lackey, you might be that super-villain’s only really true friend. Such is the case here.

  • Norb

    BUT WHAT WOULD AQUAMAN DO?

Considering you can put out a fire using water, his opinion might be helpful.

Unless its one of those electrical fires, for which you have to use special foam.

  • Susan Schroeder

Yeah, standing up to Daphne even when she is using her puppy-dog eyes in the penultimate panel!

  • Marduk

Superman used to be a good moral yardstick. Then Zack Snyder decided he was too good.

  • DLKMusic

WWBD…. Very good argument, Tylor. I only have one question.

When someone asks you to help them steal a creepy schmorf gnome, WWBD?

  • Sam

Oh, cool, thanks for adding the chapters. 🙂 That’s the sort of thing that I plan to do but don’t seem to find the time, like switching the Woohooligan archive from the $3 tier to the $1 tier on my Patreon.

    • ElectricGecko

It sadly took me a full two hours of goofing around in WordPress, but it was one of those rare moments when I had some free time, so I thought it would be best to change it while I had nothing better to do.

What would D. A. Harvey Dent do in this situation ?

Flips coin: One side: Sue park for faulty maintenance other side: Sue park for copywrite infringement. Coin lands on pavement completely on its side….

Result: Gets caught in explosion, one side of face blown off, thus being Two-Face for the numteenth-time…

    • ElectricGecko

Harvey Dent is annoying. He’s a super-villain AND a lawyer. Man. Talk about a 2-fer-1.

      • Mahnarch

        Agreed.
The schitzo personality works in the Batman universe, but the way he’s used is lazy.

        • Nick Manly

It of course depends on the writer. Serious House on Serious Earth used him quite well, but that’s because they were going all wackadoo. Where he became a slave to the coin where he couldn’t make his own decisions. (They gave him a tarot deck and the variety of choices meant he couldn’t even use the bathroom.)

I’ve always liked it when he’s written as having a deep struggle within. Where he genuinely can’t decide the course of action between the good and bad and when he flips the coin to good he does follow through with the good and no catches.

Nowadays, he chooses between two equally evil choices and thus comes off as a cartoon.

  • Greg White

Did you know that for a brief time DC comics featured a free bonus book to showing off new comic book talent. There was 13 of them.

  • I look to WWBD when I’m conflicted over something as minimal as whether I should wear leather or rubber sole shoes for the day.

The yardstick is very real! 😀

    • ElectricGecko

Of course, we manly men know that you can’t simplify this equation. I mean, the question “What Would Batman Do?” really does depend on which Batman we’re talking about here. There’s a big divide between the Clooney and the Conroy versions.

  • SotiCoto

Most of my ethical dilemmas are solved by the question: What Would Starscream Do? Mmmmm backstab damage multipliers.

  • SalemCat

    (Update from the Daphne-Bashing Unit)

    Oh that Daphne !

She is most likely the worst…. HUH ?

Oh, sure, I’ll be right there, Karen.

(OMG, OMG. Karen is my Supervisor. I’m being called into her Office. I am so psyched ! Promotion ? Raise ? Promotion WITH Raise ?)
