Daphne . . . has your parentage ever been determined? Because right now, I’m thinking Phoebe and you are half-sisters, with the same father.

  • Mermaidan

Phoebe and Tyler might just be a match.

    • ElectricGecko

Well, beyond the fact that he’s probably half her age, I firmly believe, from a storytelling standpoint, that two fundamentally good people should never form a union. It’s just boring.

  • pat

I wonder if Daphne will have a reversal of viewpoints after she was kids.

However, such a quandary may be the thing that sends her back in time.

    • Lokitsu

I find the idea of Daphne reproducing to be terrifying.

    • SalemCat

      @pat

Sending Daffy “Back in Time”, “Forward in Time”, “Six Feet Under” – it all works for me.

Every moment spent on Daffy takes away from TRACEEE !

    • ElectricGecko

Well, we shall see. Or not see. Because this comic will likely never get there.

    • pat

      Stupid autocorrect, has, HAS kids.

    • Bad Taiming

Dog face would probably eat her own young in a metaphorical sense but I would not put the other option out of the possible. At best they could end up as her underlings in a life of crime.

      • pat

The actual mechanics eludes me, but she is shifted back to her munchkin self after passing out during childbirth, but before the afterbirth. It’s the afterbirth that is the chronological anchor. It would explain her devious attitude as well as her gambling proficiency. The only thing she retains is an inate ability to not only read the room but almost everyone in it. This would explain her ability to get taken in by Phoebe and her gossip, which fuels her abilities.

I imagine her next iteration will have her winning the poker tournament as well as getting the Schnorf, not starting the fire but not getting out of the park with it.

    • Commander Clash

The cruellest thing a parent can wish is that their child has children that “are just like you.”

  • JJR

They made the 3rd Cars to make up for the 2nd one.

  • Puck: *encourages Daph’s bad behaviour*
    Daph: *does the bad stuffs*
    Puck: oh no

  • Measurably, Phoebe and Ty *are* holier than Daphne.
But then, so is everyone but Satan, in this comic.

  • No matter what evil thing Daphne does, she’s all right as long as her own motives are pure?

  • SalemCat

I’m finding it less and less believable that Daffy is Canadian.

  • Peya Luna

looks as if daph is buying a clue just how different her and her bf are…then again, oposites atract. odds are he´d be bored with a goodie-goodie girl, and daph dating someone like her? that would be ww3 waiting to happen….never mind the threat of their potential offspring *shudder*

    • ElectricGecko

Opposites DO attract. And in honesty, sometimes two extremes on the opposite end of the spectrum can bond to form a more functional pair. One brings spontaneity and a certain sense of adventure, but the other keeps things in line.

Puck may be right, this may be beyond Daphnes comprehension, but I feel like Puck should at least try to explain. “If it was you (Daphne) in that wheelchair, I (Puck) would see the opportunity but I would stop myself because I don’t want to risk you dying. And if it was Miranda in that wheelchair, I would not see the opportunity for hilarity at all, I would be completely focused on the risk for tragedy. The good people think kinda like that case, but regardless of who sits in the wheelchair. They don’t just care about people they are close to – they care about anyone.”

I realise I’m making some assumptions about Puck’s ability to think like this here but I think something like that would be in character and appropriate. And I actually think Daphne does care about at least Puck, Tyler and Miranda. Perhaps not enough to not push the wheelchair down the hill but at least enough to regret it if it goes badly. And if she can imagine herself regretting such an act, well, that would be pretty big first step.

    • ElectricGecko

Your assumptions are correct. And I don’t think she’ll take that exact approach. But some approach shall be taken.

  • Frank Harr

“Keeps on talking” is great given you’ve to say for a week that Puck isn’t done yet. And I don’t know that she’s done talking yet. I’ll have to wait and see.

I guess ol’ Daph likes them good boys. Which would explain part of why she feels betrayed. She KNOWS he’s a good boy. And a good boy wouldn’t knowingly hurt her and surely he must KNOW that this was important to her.

But Tylor is still a human being and a teenaged one at that. Of COURSE he’s not going to Daph into a position where she has to turn him down to go to prom. She doesn’t want to go. Asking her would be pointless. Hey! She seems nice, I’ll take her. And I bet the worse thing she’ll get me to do is to make sure she gets to the loo.

It’s like the actress who played Julie powers in the Scott Pilgrim movie. She explained that O’Mally had told her a secret (which she then spilled, but who cares?). In college, Scott had dated all of Julie’s friends but not her. And the actress’ comment was, “Of COURSE she hates him”.

Subconcious agendas are fun. Except your own. That’s painful and awkward.

I worry about that waitress. The day seems far too interesting for her.

    • Frank Harr

Oops. Aubry Plaza may have made that up on her own given a slight push by O’Malley. Eh, these things happen.

      • ElectricGecko

Aubrey Plaza is the actress whom I feel best captures the vibe and energy of Daphne: I find her charming but also feel that absolutely nothing good can come of her.

        • Frank Harr

          I buy that. 🙂

Daph’s also very self-aware. Not that that has anything to do with the actress in question, it’s just something I’m noting.

  • Crazy Lou

There was a spin on the classic D&D alignment chart I saw on Reddit, where the chart showed what each alignment thought of the other alignments. Lawful Good sees the world as mostly and inherently good, besides the corner extremes, while Chaotic Good sees themselves as the underdog and only real good option. Chaotic Evil… sees everyone else as Chaotic Evil, and can’t really comprehend that others can be altruistic or that people really follow the rules.

  • Tjimmy1999

Oh Daphne. Spite would have meant that Phoebe or your friend actually cared to get a rise out of you. Seriously though. If anyone thinks that every little thing someone, e.g. a family member, does that is the opposite of what you believe is the norm or attitude in your world just to get off on offending you then you might want to start thinking in a new mindset.

  • ChrisH

I’m feeling much better about Tyler’s character now. So far, he seemed to me to be an ethical blank slate. If he were just like Daphne, it might be too much.

    • ElectricGecko

Tyler has been (since at least the start of the color comics) a nice boy all along. He’s a little passive maybe – too easily duped into being an accomplice – but he has a good moral core.

      • Gaztasterofpork

Tyler( and fear) possibly are the only things keeping the cops away from Daphne. I am glad that he can show Daphne he’s not tying himself to her. He’s free to do as he pleases, with whom he pleases.

  • Grace

Things beyond my comprehension: they’re bringing back New Coke?!?

    • ElectricGecko

Hey, New Coke consistently won taste tests! There was nothing wrong with New Coke, except that it wasn’t old Coke. And they discontinued old Coke. If they’d released it as an auxiliary flavour (fresh summer blast flavour Coke, say) and kept the original on the shelves, I think we all would have been fine with it.

Honestly, though, it just tastes like Diet Coke with calories. Why bother?

      • The Walking Anomaly

Funny you mention that. Where I’m originally from (Chicago area), when Coke brought back the original formula, New Coke, rechristened Coke II, stayed on the market alongside it until the late ’90s.

        • ElectricGecko

I heard that. That’s weird. Though I wonder why only Chicago held on.

          • MSG Bob

Not just Chicago. Coke II penetrated as far as Indianapolis, at least for a while. I’ll never figure out why, though. If I wanted something that tasted like Pepsi, I’d have a Pepsi.

          • ElectricGecko

Reading up on it, it looks like Coke II existed all across the United States for at least some time. Apparently its biggest market was Los Angeles. Thinking back, I do vaguely remember the Coke II era, though I tried to push it out of my mind because I disliked Pepsi thus disliked New Coke.

      • Brother Parvus

Coca Cola made with cane sugar rather than corn syrup is still available (for at least the time being) from factories in Mexico. A store in the Eagle Rock neighborhood is one emporium at which I’ve discovered it on the shelves.

        • ElectricGecko

Everyone’s always going on about cane sugar. I’m cool with cane sugar, but I’m not confident that my peasant’s taste buds would be able to taste the difference.

      • Grace

I was always a Jolt girl anyway.

        • ElectricGecko

Jolt Cola? Wasn’t that stuff just two steps away from radioactive waste?

          • Grace

“All the sugar and twice the caffeine: inspired by the need for a better tasting soft drink.” They brought it back recently, at least for a while, and i’ve got a few cans squirreled away! (^w^)

    • Hey, Stranger Things has a lot of selling power. 🙂

  • ChrisH

@Grace, me too, and Tab is still around. (!)

  • “Hope for the best, expect the worst” is he best policy in regards to people; you’ll never be disappointed when the people around you do horrible things. Horrified, maybe, but never disappointed, since they’re doing exactly what you thought they were going to do.

  • Gaztasterofpork

Considering Puck now has Miranda I wonder if she can allow Daphne to stay such a bad influence. Not even Colin’s or Phoebe’s influence can hold back the THAT kind of corruptibility.

    • ElectricGecko

Well, that’s a thought. Though I don’t think the ‘bad influence’ fears really gel until kids are verbal. Isn’t think that sort of fear is real yet for Puck.

    • The Walking Anomaly

I’m not quite sure, only because Miranda, even as a toddler (especially as a toddler?), is one of the smartest and observant characters in the comic.

  • ChrisH

@EG, well, Puck’s letting the Prince of Darkness babysit her kid, so you must be right. 😉

  • When Daphne speaks of Taylor / Tyler saying “Don’t drain that old lady’s bank account!” is the old lady in question Puck?

  • Formedras

Geez. At least Puck understands. Maybe she disagrees, but she understands.

    • ElectricGecko

She understands. Honestly, she might be the only one qualified to be mother to Daphne because she sorta gets where she’s coming from.

  • ChrisH

@SalemCat, yes, Satan ran away quickly from babysitting duties. Also, so you think Tracee is the nicest character in Puck? I think you’re in love, my friend. 😉

  • Mermaidan

Daphne needs a love interest that she will jump through hoops for. This will show how truly superficial she is, or that there is hope for her yet.

  • ChrisH

Tomorrow’s page will be number 500. Congratulations, EG! I hope you’re having as much fun as us readers. 🙂

  • pat

I’m wondering where the blind girl falls between the two of them. Is she closer to Daphne than we realize? Does Daphne have a better identical morality radar than most everyone else? Will the Dutch girl turn into a gender bender Batman villain based on the little boy who sticks his finger into the dyke?

  • Things beyond my comprehension:
-Why you went to the effort to design and fully draw a waitress who has no lines or real interaction with the foreground characters.
-Why this high school dance with a “fantasy forest theme” is looking increasingly more and more like a wedding reception.

    • ElectricGecko

It’s prom. It’s got a full dinner. Proms happen at the same venues that host weddings. This is to be expected.
