I felt, in the spirit of the holidays, that I needed to celebrate a certain cola company that for all intents and purposes birthed the modern Santa. Or at least celebrate the Puck universe's off-brand equivalent. So here goes!

As for this comic...
I'm late posting this because (A) I was super behind due to holiday craziness, and (B) when I actually had a block of time to work on the comic, my neighborhood was hit with a lengthy blackout. I spent most of today with no power. So I finished the speech bubbles about five minutes before posting this, and ... yeah, I'm drained.
I hope everyone has a good Christmas if I don't see or hear from you before then. Drink lots of egg nog, open lots of presents, and be overtly festive. I command you.
Oh, and yes, I saw the new Star Wars movie. It sucked so hard, I'm still recovering. I haven't felt this level of disappointment since staggering out from The Phantom Menace. Oh well. Let's hope CATS will live up to the hype and save this holiday movie season!

Phoebe is right. This IS the kind of prom night girls dream of (at least the dance part), and Papa Schmorf was responsible for that! Also, in spite of the costume, he’s been a perfect gentleman so far….

I’m sorry about Star Wars. Breanna’s very concerned and this report might just put the final nail in. I was a minority in that I liked TLJ, but I had hopes that this film could support that movie’s failings, in particular extracting a price for the way Rey has been using power.
Cats looks creepy as hell. I’m holding out hope for Wonder Woman.
Dry blankets offer no comic potential.
As for Stur Wurs, I didn’t like Last Jedi, but mainly because it just left no goodies in the box narratively for the next movie. Luke? Dead. Snoke? Dead. Leia? Not dead, but … we’ll, you know. So Abrams was backed into a corner, and while I knew it was a tough situation, I was hoping for better than this. What we got was a full-on nightmare ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ style disaster. Some people will like it. But those people will almost all be fans of Michael Bay.

You won’t like this movie. You REALLY won’t like this movie.
Not only are there heaps of worn, tired tropes, but they’re also reeeeeally dumb in how they’re executed. But hey, they got the screenwriter who wrote Batman v Superman, so … we could expect this quality?

I was never much of a DC or Marvel fan.
I found that in Uncle Scrooge, once you get past the fact that Carl Barks was drawing Ducks, the adventures were far more interesting.
I especially was repulsed when it became clear that Superman was a God, who could perform any task for the laziest writers DC could employ.
Boring.
Yeah, I am … okay with super hero stuff. But it’s not my fave. I liked the interpersonal bits that the better super hero comics worked into their storylines, and I kind of felt less attached to the actual super hero stuff.
Late to the party, I know. But I feel the Sequel Trilogy, on paper, was cool! There WERE elements that could work, like the reason why Rey was SO strong with the Force or the unique communication she had with Kylo Ren (vague for potential spoilers)
But sadly… it fell flatter than a tire due to the writers feeling like they had to get these half-arsed ideas tied together SOMEHOW. And with Palpatine… I don’t think it was COMPLETELY dumb considering the Clone Wars being a thing. But they botched it. Royally.
I was fully on board with Force Awakens. But the total lack of road map led to R.J. making a non-functional middle chapter, and obliterating the chance for a decent third chapter. That last movie goes down in history as the messiest, stupidest blockbuster I’d seen in a long time.
Not as messy and stupid as ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’. But close.
Oh, but for the record, The Mandalorian is great and I adore every minute of it.
News Alert, Star Wars Fans like something.
That was what I like about TLJ. This is a world that doesn’t work any more. Everyone who knew how to make it work are gone. And now they have to re-build. Maybe I was giving Bay too much credit.
As much as no one likes TLJ, they love TM. It’s an odd situation. 🙂
I think the good news here is that Mando is wandering away from the tight, confined box of what Star Wars was, and wandering into what Star Wars can be. And when you’re getting away from Skywalkers and junk like that, people have fewer opinions on exactly how it should be.
But it also comes down to this: Mando is a great show with a few minor flaws. Pretty much everyone can look past a few flaws, so everyone likes it. LJ was a movie with some cool stuff but many BIG flaws. Your enjoyment hinged on how much you liked the cool stuff and how willing you were to look past the flaws. Same with RoS. Some cool stuff. LOTS of stupid flaws. I get why part of the fan base hates these movies and another part likes them, because part of ME hates them too, while part likes it.
And MAN is that good news.
Actually, I liked LJ, because the flaws I saw are flaws in how some human armies work and I could relate it to some minor political issues that I’m sure you wouldn’t be interested in. Basically, I saw the flaws as something of a commentary.
That said, I find it perfectly reasonable for people to not like it and I really wanted RoS to do something good with it. Something to make the flaws make sense. And it looks like they didn’t. 🙁
I have not seen the Mandelorian, but it sounds great and a lot of fun.
I felt that way with each of these new trilogy movies. The Force Awakens was pretty good, but after seeing it, I said, “I need to see where they go with this.” And LJ I felt left no room for them to take it in an interesting direction, but still I was hopeful. I thought, “If they manage to stick the landing, I might feel better about this movie.” Well, I DO feel better about LJ, but it’s only because RoS makes it look like freakin’ King Lear by comparison.

My understanding is that the writer for FA had plans for where they wanted to go and ten J.J. was brought in. Not the cool J.J. from the sit-com, but the J.J. who likes remaking fanchises. So, yeah, the LJ did not properly pick the threads up from FA. I could deal with most of it but not all.
Anyway, Wonder Woman is coming. I have hopes for that.

We celebrated Christmas today (24th) because Sweden. I got a game I wanted and a couple of sweaters, so that was nice.

I’ve only watched Ep 7 of new Star Wars and refuse to watch the other two. If I don’t see them they can’t ruin my view of Star Wars.
In the past two years I saw Empire Strike Back and Return of the Jedi in concert (playing the movie with an orchestra playing the music). And they are still fantastic movies
Good call. Ep.7 was worth seeing. Bit of a rehash but I liked it quite a bit. I wish I hadn’t seen Last Jedi, and wish I hadn’t seen Rise of Skywalker even harder. Rogue One was fine, though. And Solo really wasn’t that bad, though the cinematography was awful in terms of color grading.
The only must see Star Wars for old fans I’ve encountered since the Disney purchase is Mandalorian. Can’t recommend that one enough. Simple Sergio Leone / Kurosawa homage that looks and feels great.
Now you’ve got me wondering if someone is pushing Baby Yoda around in a cart?

So far, Phoebe and the guy who wears the Papa Shnorf costume seem to get along well together. I’m curious where this goes.

So, about that CATS movie…
It’s getting a week 1 patch, but I really don’t think any patch could uncanny the valley that movie fell in…
All accounts say it is gloriously, GLORIOUSLY bad. I can’t wait to see it. Not sure I’ll get to it in the theatre, but maybe? I love disasters like this.

Baldie tucked me under his coat, and he and Janet took me to a small nearby theatre (the NSMT), where they performed CATS live and up close.
It was unbelievable the talent those Actors an Actresses displayed.
It took every bit of self-control I could muster from leaping onto the stage and joining the frolicking.
I’d go again in a heartbeat.
It works as a stage musical. It works in an entirely different way as a movie, I’ve heard. And by ‘works in an entirely different way’, I mean ‘doesn’t work’.

If she would be human, she would be already just pile of bones (and wouldn’t have any problem with not pooping). She’s NOT. She’s fae and it’s completely possible she won’t really be any older thousand years since now. Of course, Phoebe is daughter of Satan and as such might easily live even longer.

I’m thinking that just maybe, a part of Puck envies Phoebe’s positive personality (which is only extrapolated by sugar). Phoebe’s friendship has a good influence on Puck, even if she doesn’t always show it.
This is exactly the dynamic, I think. In cynics like Puck (and me), there is some internal force that keeps one from experiencing truly ecstatic joy. A part of the cynic always leans back and says, “Oh please.” But sometimes the cynics can envy the guileless naive types. The naive can actually experience true wonder and joy. And we’re jealous.
Um, did you see CATS?
Not yet. I haven’t found anyone willing to see it with me. And I’m not sure I’m ready to go see Cats alone.

My Mommie, the Yule Cat, only stalked the theatres showing CATS for one evening.
Everyone was well-dressed, and there were no actual cats, so she left and has not returned.
She did mention she saw EMILY. She approves.
CATS is an exceptional flight into fantasy. What few changes were made added cohesiveness to the story and charm to the characters. Some critics have trouble appreciating anything older than they are.
