Hmm, while the assumption is that she is Satan’s daughter, she doesn’t seem to be as angelic as she appeared from day five.

  • So what happened to her dress for the prom?

    • ElectricGecko

      It’s in the bag.

      • Sigurther

        What’s left of it. XD

        • So presumably, these clothes she’s wearing now, are “Pappa Shnorf’s” old T-shirt and boxer shorts.

They fit her surprisingly well. Is he really a skinny guy under that chubby costume?
…Or is that just the effect Phoebe has on clothing? Like a passive, R-rated succubus magic?

          • ElectricGecko

We will assume it’s more the magic Phoebe clothing power. Really, it’s the magic power of me not knowing how to draw baggy clothes. Baggy is hard to draw. Why do you think superheroes wear spandex? Yes, it’s to show their physiques, but mostly because it’s easier to draw.

          • SalemCat

            @Hinoron

Is Gollum a really skinny guy ?

            You be the judge.

Seems like one of the most… risque… ones I’ve seen you do. 😛

        • ElectricGecko

Well, if anyone is going to push the envelope, it’ll be Tracee, right? Right.

        • Rune

I bet she crashed from the sugar high as soon as they got there and Papa Shnorf ain’t the kind to take advantage.

          • Drakeye

    Or WACKY LEAF ?

    Oh, Phoebe.

    What would Daddy say ?

  • Thisguy

She looks more content and chill than she has in ages.
I know she had dating trouble in the old strips, and I don’t think we’ve seen her go out with anyone in the new… so it’s probably been a while for her.
But she looks like she enjoyed herself, no shame there whatsoever.

  • Jay Maupin

Phoebe looks really really happy and at peace with the world. No sign of “slinking” there. More like a happy cat full of fresh canary. Purrr.

    Good for her.

  • Frank Harr

O.K., where the hell does Spill the Tea come from?

    • ElectricGecko

Just looked it up, actually, because I seldom drop lingo into my comic without verifying that I fully grasp the term. From what I gathered, no one is particularly sure where the phrase came from, and in the world of the internet, it’s likely impossible to source. But it’s relatively recent; that much we know.

      • Pat

Mayhap it is a such better choice in terminology than the common, barbaric American colloquiallism of spill the beans.

      • Frank Harr

I first saw it on advertisements for T-mobile. And until now, it’s the only place.

        • ElectricGecko

You’ll start seeing more of it soon, I think. Honestly, I sort of hesitated putting it in because it’s mildly trendy and when you’re dealing with a comic that people read five, ten years later, I don’t want to date it too hard. But I like the expression so much…

          • Frank Harr

Well, at least I finally know what it means. I’ honestly thought it was something specific to T-Mobile.

            Now I want tea. 🙂

  • Wyvern

    Mmmm, lychee…

    • ElectricGecko

I’m … not a fan? Or maybe a bit of a fan? It’s great in very small doses. But the idea of, like, drinking a big tall glass of lychee juice kinda makes me feel fummy in me tummy.

  • Peya Luna

hu…looks as if sugar high doesn´t leave you with a hangover 😉

also, about dragon fruit: HELL YES! finally someone agrees with me – those fruits are pure evil, a creation of satan himself for sure! they look like the most awesome, exoting thing but taste like absolutely nothing, a faint sweetness at most. they´re basically fruit-shaped disapointment!

    • Sigurther

Yeah, I honestly thought it was gonna taste like kiwi given the internal similarities. I was a little disappointed at how bland they were given how fancy they look.

    • ElectricGecko

Ever had sugar? Sugar doesn’t lead to hangovers. Sugar leads to crashes, which lead to comatose sleep, but after said sleep, you wake up fine. As for dragon fruit, it’s like it was playing some RPG video game and put all its ability points into aesthetics and none into flavor. That said, I don’t dislike dragon fruit; it’s just … there. The secret to dragon fruit is to use it in fruit salad. It provides some visual pop but the other fruit brings the taste. (Yes, I am a pro fruit salad maker. The secret ingredient is maple syrup.)

  • Kurmudgeon

She looks younger. Probably because she is not stressed. I imagine living in that household does get to one after a while.

    • sigpig

Is it her lack of glasses that makes her look younger?

    • ElectricGecko

Yeah, maybe what sigpig said about the glasses? The other factor is that we pretty much never see Phoebe wearing a super casual outfit like this. I think we internally code casual stuff like graphic tees as youthful. Hence the fact that I live in graphic tees, clinging to my long departed youth.

  • Sigurther

    Someone had a good night.

  • Gthefurrybiker

‘So, did you guys, uhhh… Shnorf last night? Or did you just Shnorf?

  • ChrisH

I think Twelve Hills College must be a school of HIGHER learning. 😉

  • Pat

I don’t know, but upon reflection. I suppose that having someone be so coy I suppose about what happened last night is not a bad thing.

But having something like that in a relationship seems to make it the stuff of realism and dreams.

  • mermaidan

Phoebe has a very interesting expression and more relaxed pose. It appears that her escapade with Papa Schnorf has added a more cosmopolitan aspect to her character. I hope that her good girl nature has not been compromised. Daddy may need to send Cerberus after the scoundrel..

    • ElectricGecko

“Cosmopolitan.” Good word. Though no, nothing really ever shifts Phoebe’s character much. The same Phoebe is still intact. Promise.

    • HKMaly

I think daddy has pretty high margin on what is acceptable behavior. Like, do not kill more than 50 people at once or something.

      • ElectricGecko

I don’t think Satan is very protective of his little girl. All evidence points to him being unconcerned with anything that doesn’t directly connect to him or his own happiness. I mean, he kicked his daughter out of the house because his girlfriend told him to. Plus, no one love Shnorfs more than Satan.

  • Just Sumguy

Well, there’s no denying it. She’s definitely her fathers daughter.

  • ComicReader

Great description of the taste of a Lychee. But you haven’t really sold me on the Dragon Fruit Haha 😀

    • ElectricGecko

Dragon fruit looks amazing. And when you cut it open, it looks EVEN MORE amazing. But it tastes like the least flavorful thing you could ever try. Not unpleasant. Just insanely mild.

  • SalemCat

For a rather extended discussion of Phoebe’s all too brief romance with Gollum, read Phoebe and Gollum, hiding by his ROCK. First they kiss, then they …”

  • SalemCat

Yep, THIS is the guy inside the PAPA SNORF costume.

  • SalemCat

    True Story (maybe)
The famous Ring was just a plastic premium Gollum found years ago in a CrackerJack Box. It wasn’t much, but he was so poor that he found “Precious” even the smallest things.
In fact, as he tells it, he was living on a shoestring – yeah, literally. An old shoestring was all he had to eat ! Sad.
Long afterwards, while mousing, I first met him. We were engaged in battle over a small vole, but when I saw how scraggled he was, I felt pity, and relented.
As he feasted on the morsel, we got to talking, and as it turns out he had no idea that the fishees that teemed in his cavern could be eaten !
I showed Gollum how to catch them, and oh man, he soon excelled at it. Put on a few pounds, even shared them fishees with me. Nice guy, really.
Much later, our old gang was gathered in Brie, at the Green Dragon, pounding down the brewskies.
Everyone was there: Myself, Gollum, Aragorn, Gandalf (known as Mel to his friends), Azrael, Gargamel, Bambi – the whole crew.
Oh the tales we told ! Bilbo was on yet another tear concerning his idiot nephew, Frodo – that kid was a dunce and a half.
Anyhow, Mel, who was always the most clever of us, had a brainstorm. He suggested we borrow “The Precious”, and pretend it was enchanted, and see if “Frodo the Dim” would bite.
OMG ! As the prank progressed everyone wanted in. Before it was over we had Frodo traipsing over half the Continent ! It was killer.
For a while even Sauron, who owned a large Catnip Operation south of the border, got into it (man, I never saw that dude when he WASN’T high).
Anyhow, we finally grew tired of it all, and faked Gollum’s Death to sew it up.
Time passed, and a nice fella in the UK, who fancied himself a writer, but just couldn’t get published, got wind of the prank, and asked if he could claim the tale and turn it into a potboiler for himself.
We said sure, man, knock yourself out.
Well, long story short, The Lord of The Rings was an enormous success, and especially after the movies the royalties just poured in.
Gollum was especially lucky. Few people know that at first George Clooney was cast for his character. But GC just couldn’t pull off eating raw, wriggling fish whole. Though he sure tried.
So they looked at having the original Gollum act the part, and damn, after a few hair plugs he was perfect !
Most of us just frittered away the bucks, but Gollum, he was one thrifty fella, and has been buying Real Estate all over Canada.
Says the country brings back fond memories – being cold, wet, and dark most of the year – just like his old cave.
    Good Times, Good Times.
(he’s getting married soon – I wish I could recall the lucky lady’s name)

    • ElectricGecko

You have a soaring imagination. That much I can say.

      • SalemCat

        @EG

As you promised we would never see who – or what – resides in Papa’s Costume (if it IS a costume), I guess the actual occupant will never be known.

But it is Gollum (trust me; i’m not like the others).

      • Valkeiper2020

Imagination? next thing you know, Phoebe will be playing the theremin (without ever letting us know how/when she learned to play it).
On second thought, that would be more Daf’s sort of thing.
or Puck’s (she’s older than the instrument, after all)

  • Paul Britt

Dragon Fruit may be bad but has anyone ever tried a Durian? They are a whole other level of vile.

  • mermaidan

Post it Notes can only say so little, yet still cover so much (sadly).

  • That outfit: in most ways, less revealing than her usual garb, but in the way that counts, far more revealing.

The expressions: on all 4 girls are so perfect, we don’t really need the dialog to tell what’s going on. It’s helpful for the joke but the joke is not really relevant to the humor (if you know what I mean).

    • ElectricGecko

I know what you mean. And balancing the humor with the joke, as it were, is always something I have to watch. The humor is derived more from the characters and the relationships, but in a strip comic, the joke is either verbal or situational – someone said a funny, or someone did a funny. It’s hard to keep the humor rolling while making sure that you consistently land a joke every four panels.

      • Valkeiper2020

        oops!
The comment I made about Phoebe playing the theremin, I intended to go here.
        It’s still relevant, though

  • “Spill the tea, take that pearl…spill the tea, dig that girl…”

  • Lokitsu

And Daphne STILL can’t stop smiling.

    • ElectricGecko

No one’s given her a reason to stop.

      • Valkeiper2020

Give her a theremin and tell her she needs to learn how to play it in a week… without touching it.
That may confuse her a bit.

        • Valkeiper2020

Come to think of it, everyone needs a hobby and Daf’s has been getting her in a bit of trouble.
Maybe making spooky noises would be better…

          naw…

          • ElectricGecko

            What’s with you and theremins?

          • Valkeiper2020

I discovered the theremin just this month.
Though I had been hearing that sound almost my whole life, I never put an instrument to the sound.
I got intrigued by it to the point to actually buy one and I’m waiting anxiously for it to arrive in the mail.

          • ElectricGecko

You can build one with some basic electronics. I know because my son built one in tech summer camp. I am a big fan of it. Nothing gives a song a better shlocky space sci-fi 50’s feel. My favorite songs featuring the theremin come from the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack, where Koji Kondo uses the instrument to give it that extra ‘Mario in Space’ push. Here’s a great example from the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z29bt-wjS88

Honestly, that’s one of my favorite songs of all time, theremin or no.

  • SalemCat

    Happy OAK APPLE DAY !!

    Oak Apple Day

  • Commander Clash

It’s been a good night when you return in clothes that aren’t yours the next day.

  • Justin

Votey: That’s a lot of Tracee, wow

  • Brother Parvus

The vote bait for June promises much delightful mayhem for a while. Go, Daffy!

    • ElectricGecko

It’ll be a thing. It’s a fun story. A bit of a tragedy that it took me a full two years to generate, but that’s what happens when you’ve got incredibly limited time on your hands and you try to do a comic on top of your already existing comic.
