Puck 662

Chapter: Jinkies!Characters: Colin CyTags: ascot mystery machine rent van
It's a DISNEY KIND OF AUGUST! We've done Disney villains before, but we're doing more heroic characters this time. The patrons threw down some suggestions, and you'll see the results in the coming weeks! VOTE TO PUT THE MAGIC BACK IN THE KINGDOM!!! As for this comic... Hey look! It's the rare 'two dudes talking' comic! They are like strange, exotic flowers that grow in weird locations on the landscape. I would say that we should savor them when they occur, but honestly, I'm glad that they're relatively rare.

Yeah, that goes without saying. It wasn’t me, it was the ascot.

    Super Freaky ….. MEOW !

  • SalemCat

Another Kitten on the way !

  • Pat

That blend must be where the characters get those weird glow effects.

  • Vizziny

    INCONCEIVABLE

as tempted as I am to quote the Princess bride Meme, I think that in this case the word DOES mean what you think it means!

Would Puck, Fairy of Lore that she is, find Tracey as Tinkabelle Hilarious or insulting? Or does Puck just find Tink annoying and insulting in general.
… I have an odd feeling Tink has been referenced in comic before… maybe in the old strips…

The only time this comic ever mentioned Tinkerbell was in the context of Tracee HERE. So this is really a pay-off to a connection that the comic made a long time ago.

I feel that Puck would view Tinkerbell as a vaguely offensive, largely insensitive mass media stereotype. You know, like most Disney characters!

  • “Uh-huh. So, is the ascot chipping in on the cleaning costs I’m about to charge you?”

  • To answer Tracybelle’s question: H-E-double hockeysticks, no.”
    (Keeping it wholesome.)

I wonder, will we ever see any of Puck’s relatives in the comic? Or even her old boss, Oberon?

    • ElectricGecko

Enh, I feel that if I ever introduced Puck’s family, the comic would quickly grow into a very different comic. The whole thing hinges on fantasy elements lightly sprinkled into an otherwise mundane slice-of-life setting. If her family came in, it might tip the scales to a more fantasy-centric concept and throw off the balance.

I also have no good ideas for her family, so there’s that.

      • HKMaly

Are you SURE that would be bad thing? Maybe, sometime in future, you run out of “slice of life” ideas but get great idea for Puck’s family …

… seriously, I’m waiting for that the whole time I read this comics.

        • ElectricGecko

I have slice-of-life ideas carrying me for the next ten years. And I’m not really sure I’ll still be doing the comic in ten years, so…

I’m not saying never, but I’m saying not for the foreseeable future.

I can see Puck’s family being disappointed in her lifestyle choices . . . . . . . . or be amazed she’s improved so much . . . . . or likely both at the same time. What’s that emotion called, when you gaze at your child’s latest screw-up that you can’t believe they did and yet there’s at least a little style to it?

There’s a bunch of people from different parts of North America and Europe. They dont’ know each other very well, so they sort of stand around making dry, factual statements and wondering when they can go eat.

They all drifted apart a long time ago. Puck doesn’t even know that her sister Starling got out of jail in Iowa in 1977. She still sends fuitcakes that the prisoners share.

Not all are redheads. Some have brown hair. One has black hair, but he’s also very tall and athletic and doesn’t really acknowladge the rest of his pot-bellied middle-class clan. No on knows what G. does anymore.

Well, first of all Puck of mythical days was cognate with Pan/Zagreus, ergo male, and cultural traces still exist in Irish – the song “Puc ar Buile” (mad goat) comes to mind. Shakespeare got it right (being well and thorughly educated), but Moderns have mis-characterized the archangel Ari-El, “Lion of God”, as well. But, as I’m fond of saying, “Illiterati non Carborundum™.”

      • DLKmusic

I see her parents, Oberon and Titania, spending so much time arguing that they don’t even remember they have Children. I see them visiting and spending the whole time arguing (slice of life) and forgetting all about Puck while still in her home!
One of the things I see them fighting about is which one of them is actually responsible for Daphne being a Delinquent (in spite of the fact that they new nothing about her before they showed up on the doorstep).
I see slice-of-life with no magic involved to the level where Puck is almost (key word) willing to apologize to Colin’s parents!

        • DLKmusic

          errr… KNEW nothing about her…

        • Frank Harr

One uncle spends forever trying to tell someone the intricate story about his sciatica despite the fact that no one asked and most of the time, he tries to explain things people already know. Like how a car works and boxes of books are heavy. Not that they have anything to do with his story. WAIT! Yes they do! Just not anything interesting. Like why sciatica makes things hard.

        • Frank Harr

I see her father with male-pattern baldness, a pink open-necked polo shirt, slacks and a graying moustache.

    • sigpig

I think her personality is closer to Mab’s than Oberon’s…

  • Not just him and Puck? ‘Cause I thought…

  • bergerjacques

Well, there goes Colin’s security/cleaning deposit on the van rental.
Hate to throw a blacklight on in there…. ew…

  • SalemCat

If so, I could be in BIG trouble.

  • SalemCat

My human pet just bought me a HUGE Litter Box on eBay.

    He imagines that will “help”.

    Guess again, moron.

  • rewinn

Just wanna say that Panel 3 may look like, “OMG I can’t believe it!” but maybe it’s really, “OMG I could rent the van out for SO MUCH MONEYS!!!!”

  • zaphodwoob

Hey EG…Do you have saved backgrounds for the shop or do you have to draw all those toys each time? Seems like a lot…and maybe a little tedious.

    • ElectricGecko

I hate drawing backgrounds. So yes, I reuse pics of the clutter in the background. Though sometimes I do need to redraw things from another angle, and that really gets me annoyed.

      • Brother Parvus

        A three-D model could cure a host of ills….

        • ElectricGecko

I have had thoughts. But alas, a 3D model would never look good as a line art background. No matter what way you slice it, it’s a lot of work. Which is why many strip comics eschew backgrounds altogether and just go for color fields or very impressionistic backgrounds that lightly hint of the surroundings. But I am nothing if not the guy who works hard, not smart.

  • Aname

I see what you did there, excellent merch placement EG.

  • Frank Harr

Yeah. It was the “Ascot”. It has nothing to do with Her.

    Hey! Return of the Bosk!

    The Bosk Strikes Back!

    The Pride of Bosk!

The Good, The Bosk and the Ugly!

    Bosk’s Luck!

    Bosk’s Homecomming!

    O.K., I’m done now.

  • LaughingDemon

Is it really “weird” cosplay sex if that’s to be expected?
Or why would cosplay sex even require “weird” as a qualifier?

    • ElectricGecko

It doesn’t. But ‘weird’ is a funny word.

      • rewinn

Weird is a weird word (it always looks misspelled to me).

Funny is a funny word. It starts with f and has those double n’s.

        Mispelled frequently is.

        • ElectricGecko

          You are not wrong.

        • LaughingDemon

Yeah, I frequently double-take at weird. And if I think too hard about it I get thoughts of plastic tubes and pots and pans, bits ans pieces AND bits and pieces AND bits and pieces…
A cross-linked memory will do that to you. Too many “AND” statements in a row sometimes set that off too.

  • LaughingDemon

Also, I’m certainly thinking happy thoughts now.

  • Barnabus

and don’t forget Shaggy and Scooby were making out back there before Fred and Daphne !

  • sigpig

That Tinkerbell costume is LESS reveling than her normal ones… lol
