PHOEBRUARY RETURNS!!! Every few days I'll upload a different classic Phoebe February pic. There's been a lot of them. VOTE TO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL PHOEBE!!! As for this comic... Hey look, Satan's back! And it's a new chapter! As you can probably tell, this arc will be relatively Satan-heavy. I'm excited. We haven't seen the guy in a while.

    Wait..
    Sigmund is self aware!!!
Not sure if this explains anything or not…

  • Damage control to the fourth wall. Repeat, damage control to the fourth wall.
Also the pillow appears to be suffering some distress.
(If anyone were able to look past the 4th wall, I would expect it to be Satan.)

Love the voting incentive! Looks like one kitty has her claws out for the other encroaching on her territory . . .

  • Did Mayor Satan actually read the Ayn Rand book on his shelf, or is it just there for show?

  • Lokitsu

Re; the incentive. Sorry to say it, but, as with many things in life, Phoebe does it better.

It amuses me to see this the day after Satan appeared at the Grammys. He really is losing it!

    Cool.
I kind of expected Puck to be visiting Hotdog Guy for the end-of-chapter therapy session. This one would be different, ie: a good one, with Daphne inviting someone OTHER than Tyler over to the house…

    • ElectricGecko

I considered it, but we just had a Hotdog Guy appearance recently and this story will probably have him popping up in the middle anyway, so I got right into it. Also I was really crushed for time this past week and these Satan comics are some of the easiest ones to generate.

Famous misconstructions of “So” through history.
It’s Do, Re Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do
and yet, according to The Sound of Music… “So – a needle pulling thread. La – a note to follow So.”
Meanwhile, being a small town boy, my interpretation of “Sow” is a large female pig with grunting weanlings on her teats. Which does not rhyme with So, Sew, or Sow.
    Ain’t the English language fun?

  • “Word bubble” is new to me. I’ve always seen “word balloon.”

You, it’s really a terrifying state of affairs when the lord of darkness loses his penchant for causing turmoil. Eventually all that pent up evil is going to pop like a pressure cooker exploding and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere in the blast radius when that happens. It could threaten Miranda and that would make Puck go into Mama Bear mode. Oh the humanity!

  • Justin

    Hey cool, Satan returns.
So if the word bubbles are visible my assumption is that they fade out in a few seconds. Kind of a cool effect really.

Hey, Siggie! Siggie’s back! And Siggie’s back. It’s good seeing him up and about.

I’d have expected Satan to take credit for the monkey-bears.

  • Mikey

You made me look up “diegetic”. I learned something for the day, can I go home now?

  • sigpig

    So, he’s sewing on Discord?
I thought that was a Twitch, TikTok, or Etsy thing?

Or is Satan so far behind he still thinks MySpace is is a growing concern?

  • masterreviewer1000

A while?! Screw you! We haven’t seen Satan and Sigmund for yeaaaaaaaars! I almost thought you forgot or out right written them out of the comic with how little they appear.

Look, dude. Comic updates every week. That means that, functionally, what a daily comic would cover in a month this comic takes the better part of a year to cover. So not seeing a character for years, while technically accurate, is more like not seeing a character for a few months. If this comic updated at a reasonable pace. Which it does not.

And I’d apologize were it not for the fact that I’m currently struggling to even manage this pathetic schedule.

      • masterreviewer1000

        ???

Let me ask you something. One simple question: where did I ever started crapping on your comic update scheduling? Or how you do your comic? Like where exactly in any part of the sentence did I do that?

I was just (jokingly) commenting on the “We haven’t seen the guy in a while” part because it was funny and ridiculous to say that since it’s been years since we last seen these two (I’m very happy to finally see these two anyway). That’s it.
I know about the comic’s timeline. Of course the comic has different time spans than ours, but I didn’t think or consider them because it doesn’t really matter since that’s more or less something the writer would know and only would know (unless this comic outright time stamps their date). It doesn’t matter how much time went by since for weekly comics it depends on who that artist is. They could make a daily comic or the time you spend on your comic for that timeline to be a week, a month, a year or two, or hell a whole day. (Trust me. I’ve seen those kinds of comics.) I did said “we” like a viewer and not the people in the story, didn’t I?
If anything you have one of the better updates I have seen from a webcomic creator. Greatly consistent, up to date, and on time. Most artist wish they were that good at keeping up.
I really don’t know or understand how you could read that and thought I was harping or criticizing you reintroducing characters we haven’t seen in a couple of years.

I am very sorry regardless of that mistake and that if I ever come off as insulting to you or rude in this. That’s not my intention. Reading back on this, I can see where you can get that feeling and I feel really bad for it. I keep forgetting that I’m more of a talker than a typer. The tones don’t come out the way I want it to be.

        • ElectricGecko

Probably just me reading into it because the weekly update schedule is a thing that does bother me. I feel it’s one of the key things that holds the comic down. So it’s likely me just hearing the criticism I fear most. So in brief, it’s not you, it’s me.

    • bergerjacques

You don’t know what you’re talking about. It hasn’t been that long in Puck years since Tracee demonstrated child-rearing competence while Mayor Satan dealt with a city emergency.
Time runs differently in comics. Wee Pals, Peanuts, and Bloom County ran daily and those kids and animals never got older.

      • bergerjacques

Furthermore, I think there’s great wisdom in a weekly comic sticking to shorter terms stories – like Freckles, Hannah’s visits Daphne, Pikachu The Terrifying; One of the Boys, etc.

      • ElectricGecko

Well, yeah, it was just a few weeks ago in comic time, but in real life I’ll grant that it’s been a hot minute.

  • Pat

I’d say that independent apps have taken over and Satan could just very well suit back and watch the nerds do his evil work for him.

But can you blame Sigmund, I’d be bored just watching the mayor of Hamilton not have to do much save for the monkey-bears.

  • Arguably, Satan is causing Sigmund a delightful amount of misery. (I mean it really does seem like he’s trolling the poor man in the last panel there.)

  • ChrisH

    Satan, that old sew-and-sew! 😉

  • Gaudy

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to comment on this strip (discovered it just last week and burned through the archives) but I gotta say, the look of pleased pride on Satan’s face in the fourth panel is just bringing me heaps of joy. He looks so happy, it makes ME happy!
