I knew few would get the costume this week, but someone asked for it and I thought it would be fun. I like the LucasArts original, and I really do love the TellTale Games trilogy too.
Okay, I confess – I just played through the Sam & Max remakes, hence the suggestion… 😛
They’re good adaptations. My son is playing through them right now too. He likes the point-and-click genre.

You don’t think they have generators? Multiple uplink methods? You’d need to take out the whole eastern seaboard’s grid to really shut down their access.

Rightly so.
But does he REALIZE he’s using computer? Most people own more computers than they think.
I remember Arthur C. Clarke noting around the year 2000 he had five computers in his office (of some type), which exceeded the number of computers the head of IBM in the 1950s predicted the WORLD would need by then. So you don’t get everything right.
To be fair, I don’t know how many computer types would have understood what we used computers for now.

I’m pretty sure peppermint oil doesn’t work. On roaches or corporate raiders.
Funny thing about peppermint oil. It reacts with chitin about like acetone reacts with styrene or PVC. The joints in the exoskeleton of roaches pretty much seize up. With regards to the corporate raiders, a LOT of peppermint oil would be needed, and it would result in something akin to a bad asthma attack.

The lighting is hard to manage with how I make these, but it’s fun to play around with.

How do you guys feel about that holiday? The equivalent here in the States is very popular.
Canadian Thanksgiving pales in comparison to the American version. You Americans freakin’ LOVE your Thanksgiving. It’s such a pivotal holiday down there. In Canada, Thanksgiving is observed, but it’s not that important. Christmas is the bigger family holiday, when everyone tries to get together.
I have never understood why American Thanksgiving is so close to Christmas, though. Feels like we should move both to some time in August or September.
Well . . . I can’t speak to the date, but it became a standing holiday in 1863. A magazine editor thought it would be good for national unity and wrote everyone she could think of. It took a while.
It’s a harvest celebration. (Ignore the bit about the Pilgrims for the moment). Being farther south than Canada, winter comes a little later and the crops are harvested before it does—November rather than October. So to celebrate a good harvest a great feast is held. (Ignore, also, that most Americans don’t work on the farms anymore).
The ACTUAL reason Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving earlier is much more recent. Until the early 20th century, if Canadians celebrated the holiday, they’d do it around the same time as Americans. But then the government decided that it was just too close to Remembrance Day (Nov. 11th) which Americans don’t celebrate. So they moved it.
But we do celebrate Veterans Day, held on the same calendar day so maybe we SHOULD move Thanksgiving?
I think Veterans Day is a little less somber, less grim. And you also have Memorial Day, so you’ve got an excuse.
Re: ElectricGeek: oh, yes, we do celebrate Veterans Day. It’s a national holiday. One of the few celebrated with something close to its original meaning. Though not everybody goes to the parades or memorials.

For a while there was two Thanksgivings. A legacy of trying to get people to shop during the depression. We compromised.
Maybe he should get some advice from the American lords of the infernal. Never know just how evil someone can be when the do outsourcing.
