No wonder the raccoons around my house show no respect – I’ve been offering American chips!

  • Pat

She’s right. I love those things. But I didn’t go hop on a plane. Lays has them dude.

But Gecko, “she’ll you the secret”? I think something was missing

  • Frank H.

That’s mean Daphne. Funny, but mean.

And boy, did you deliver th!

What chips? And I’m in sunny Iowa right now for the holidays. It’ll be a while before I can find an excuse to go to Canada. But could I come back . . .

  • Marcus Martin

Wow. I have to say that I am a bit surprised how Daphne convinced Emily to help out and it’s based on a very much little lie. I mean Emily could have been hurt if not for the raccoons backing her up.

  • Thisguy

Huh. Never ever heard of all dressed potato chips before.
Not really surprising as I’m Australian. But we do love our chips. Packet and hot variety.

I can take or leave US imported food, but Canadian stuff is different. If I ever see some in an importer, I might have to try them.

  • Maybe the raccoons dig chicks dressed like Minnie Mouse.

According to Wikipedia: “All-dressed (French: assaisonnées or French: toute garnie[1]) is a potato chip flavour popular in Canada. It is a combination of ketchup, BBQ, sour cream and onion, and salt and vinegar.”

In my imagination, I see two Canadians, two very stoned Canadians, from the far northern reaches of the country. They’re sitting on a couch munching on chips as the northern lights dance through a picture window in the living room.
“You know what I think?” says one, staring thoughtfully at a sour cream and onion chip pulled from one of the assorted bags in front of them. “These would be so much better if they just put all the flavors on them at once. Then you wouldn’t have to choose. They’d just all be there in one big-assed bag.”
The other shrugs, takes a bong hit, and replies through exhaled smoke. “Maybe….. Maybe we should experiment with that” and, saying that, stacks three different flavored chips on top of each other.
“The colors look nice,” the other observes. “How’s it taste.”
“Canadian, man,” the stacker replies. “That is really Canadian.”

The Quebecois blend the American love of salt, fat and junk food with the French taste for exceptional quality. All the best Canadian junk food originates in Quebec.

All Dressed Chips? Well I’ll be darned. Now we won’t have to buy four separate bags of chips and mix them together in a bowl! I sure hope they make it all the down south to our local Piggly Wiggly. Sounds like they’ll go great with a jar of Alabama’s own Wickles.

Merry Christmas, Friend Gecko! Thanks for all the fun you bring us.

    • ElectricGecko

And now I hope that Wickles Pickles somehow make the journey up here. Cuz they look amazing.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, good sir. May the chips be ever in your flavor.

Tne REALLY important question is: Does Lay’s import Ketchup Chips to the US?

  • ChrisH

I hope Trader Joe’s will offer this all-dressed flavor. I know that chain
Isn’t in Canada. I can’t help thinking of the saying “All dressed-up but nowhere to go.” 😉

  • J

No Hannah or Miranda in the search and find?

  • demarion

Hmmm . . . the secret to training raccoons is all-dressed potato chips . . . well, sure, that makes sense. Hey, sometimes wild guesses totally made out of desperation and panic hit on the truth!

    • ElectricGecko

The story of most of the world’s inventions and discoveries. Our ancestors found out everything edible by being desperate and just trying the random thing to see if it made you die or not.

  • Justin

I brought a family size bag of Ruffles All Dressed back to Ohio after visiting my brother for Christmas. It lasted two days. 🙁

  • Sleel

Always hated those things. Can’t stand the smell.

I’ll take my Old Dutch ketchup chips. Or Mexican Chili.

Old Dutch. Hostess sucks the sweat from a dead man’s balls. Except those fruit pies at 7-11

    • ElectricGecko

Hostess chips. I have good memories of those. They stopped making them in Canada back in the 90s when Lays got tired of managing too many brand names and they folded it. They recently brought back the old Canadian Hostess chip mascots, the Munchies, and put them on their own brand of Munchies chips. Which is cool. But they did NOT bring back my favorite flavor (another Canadian classic) dill pickle.

For those who are wondering how many definitive Canadian flavors of chip there are, there are three: ketchup, dill pickle and all-dressed. Dill pickle started to spread down into the U.S. well over a decade ago and found great success. Ketchup is still trying to spread south and failing. We’ll see how all-dressed does.

      • The Lurker

We may have a future exchange possibility; I have access to dill pickle chips from several vendors, and am craving All-dressed… perhaps a trade deal is in order?
Regardless, have a Merry Christmas and an excellent New Year!

        • ElectricGecko

A trade! A trade that would cost a small fortune in mailing expenses to ship incredibly light yet bulky potato chips! Tempting.

          • The Lurker

Target came through and delivered four packages last night, so the trade deals are off, attractive as you made it sound. Have a Merry Christmas!

  • ChrisH

I couldn’t find all-dressed flavor potato chips at Trader Joe’s today. However, I did manage to get a bag of ketchup flavor. I guess TJ’s a little behind the curve. 😉

  • Frank H.

I hope everyone had a great holiday or just a really good day. Lots of fun and spending time with people you love and/or tolorate. May the rest of the time to Hangover Day be good as well!

  • wavewright62

No clue about All Dressed, they haven’t come here to NZ. I am, however, still reeling from the Lamb & Mint Sauce flavoured ones, and the
Chicken & Cranberry & Brie Pizza flavoured kettle chips. (Both were pretty meh imo)

  • Pat

Hmmm, I’ve seen some all dressed varieties with maple syrup.
