The idea of slipping a bulb or rubber ball or whatever inside is that it helps you hold the fabric straight and keeps you sewing two different parts of the sock together.
By the way, we saved a ton on our electric bill by swapping out all of the incandescent bulbs. We kept them and use them to keep the baby chicks warm.
Okay, and in *most* areas, the French are fashion forward, but…, c’mon, they don’t even shave their armpits, can we *really* trust them with fashion choices? 😛

You can still get incandescent light bulbs up here. But I’m not familiar with that trick.

Well, up here they’re threatening to totally ban incandescent bulbs. Which is a shame, because it’s the only bulb style I really like.
