Puck 279

Chapter: The Happiest Place in OntarioCharacters: Colin Daphne Miranda Phoebe PuckTags: Canada's Funderland Disney
NEW APRIL VOTING INCENTIVE! NOTHING INTERESTING! Seriously, man, there’s nothing interesting to see if you vote. What, don’t you trust me? VOTE EVEN WHEN THERE’S NO REAL MOTIVATION FOR YOU TO DO SO!!! And in other news... PDF BOOKS ARE HERE!!! I wanted to streamline the offerings in my store (which were getting a little silly), and so I’ve created two great PDF books available for digital download. The Puck Volume 1 PDF contains an exact copy of the print book (containing 200+ comics in high resolution, along with extras), and the new Puck Incentives PDF book contains all the incentive pics I ever ran on TWC from 2011 to 2014 – in high res, no less, along with commentary! You can get both books for seven bucks, or buy them individually for five. Check ‘em out at the store! And as for this comic… Here we are, at the start of another story arc. This one isn’t likely to run quite as long, but I have a number of funny ideas with this one. The only problem with this plan is the fact that I’m committing myself to drawing lots of difficult amusement park backgrounds over the next few months. But I think it’ll be worth it. I dunno. I hope it’ll be worth it. I’m not even sure what ‘it’ is worth, really.

    Where’s Canada’s Funderland?

  • pat

Do they have all you can eat poutine?

    • ElectricGecko

Only if you have an ‘all you can pay’ wallet. Amusement park prices apply, man.

      • David Nuttall

There are a couple of buffet restaurants nearby in Maple, mostly Chinese buffet. Oh, yeah, there is an Indian buffet across Jane street from the place. Hmm, what restaurants are down in Vaughan Mills? Yeah, I have a client across the road from there too. 🙂

  • What very specific location would I have had to have grown up in, or very specific media would i have had to have watched or read, to already have a clue what “janky” means?

      • No, not “Canada”. I live an hour away from EG.

        • ElectricGecko

I looked it up further, and it seems that no one really knows for absolute sure where it comes from, but its origin (as I suspected) seems to be the internet, or computer lingo. It (probably) started as a term for programmers and computer nerds. (“That’s some janky coding you got there.”) It then spread to apply to most other nouns, though not to people. A person cannot, apparently, be janky.

          Language is fascinating.

    • ElectricGecko

Urban dictionary, man. First definition. It’s one of those words that means how it sounds. And to be honest, it’s not a local term from here. I’ve heard it used more ’round the interwebs.

  • Kaiser

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this like the first time in… Right about since Miranda was born we’ve seen all main characters in the same panel at the same time?
As for them going to ‘Canada’s version of Disneyland’… This, I have got to see (well, read). Mainly as it sounds hilarious as hell.

    • ElectricGecko

I don’t try to get all characters in one panel very often. Panel’s too tight for it.

    • SalemCat

      Pshaw !

      ALL the MAJOR characters ?

Tracee is not here. (though I heard her name)

And we could make room in the panel by, you know, having Daphne come down with some incurable condition ? Requiring instant and lengthy hospitalization ?

(Being President of the Tracee Fan Club doesn’t take much time anymore, and I heard there was a opening in the Daphne-Bashing unit. Sadly, I’m not sure my heart is in it. But I’ll give it a try.)

At least it aint Action Park in Jersey. Or as EMTs called it, Traction Park.

  • We used to cross the border and visit what was left of Expo ’67 in Montreal…every year it seemed less of itself than before, even before they tore most of it down for the Olympics…

  • With the pamphlet: “so you’ve decided to settle for Canada…”

  • Alex Pyper

Although I can see Canada’s “Funderland” as a much closer alternative to Disney World, going from Hamilton to Toronto is not much of a “trip” (more like a commute on the GO train…)

    • ElectricGecko

Hop in the car and you’re there. Not much of a trip. More like an outing, really. Puck’s cheaping out here.

      • Alex Pyper

I will disagree, sir! It’s rather “Hop in a car, spend hours in gridlocked traffic on the 403, and THEN you’re there”! 😉

        • ElectricGecko

That’s part of the fun. It’s your first line of the day! Then you get to your destination and… MORE LINES!

        • David Nuttall

Hop on the GO Bus, stand in the aisle for a couple of hours in the overloaded bus, trying to figure out why you did not go before you got on the bus, THEN you’re there. Yeah, these are commuter buses without a washroom.

  • I just noticed the background feature our Ancient Fairy of Lore at her low ebb, watching a soap opera.
Now she’s *in* a soap opera!

(Did we ever learn who the “Ha! So Long Sucka!” guy was?)

*** Once again, the pictures tell the story
    Panel1: GLOOM!
    Puck: Idea!

    Panel2: HAPPY!!
    Puck: Ooops.

    Panel 3: DRAMA
    Phoebe: WTF?

    Panel 4: WHIPLASH
    Puck: Guilty explanation
    Daphne: Yay
    Phoebe: Boo
    Colin: Staying outta this
Miranda: What fools these mortals be

  • Rock

Is it me… or is Phoebe more excited about Funderland than she was about Disneyworld? Not that she wasn’t smiling for Mickey Mouse’s pad, but she’s cheering for Funderland. ^^

Also: BAD PUCK! You should be earmarking that cash for Miranda! Or for a new home away from the crack-house!

    • Peya Luna

i´m fairly sure phoebe is merely sarcastic. also, we´re talking about puck here – i´m surprised she didn´t earmark it all for therapeutic hotdogs and twinkies…

    • ElectricGecko

Phoebe is not a Funderland type. (More on that later.) Daphne is a Funderland type. Funderland (and its real-world equivalent) is sort of like a really big Six Flags. It’s all about the rides, and usually appeals the most to loud teenagers. Disney World is really more about the mouse, and appeals to little kids and emotionally regressive adults like Phoebe.

  • Brantford Dan

Im sure it will be totally worth the effort EG. I gotta admit iv’e become such a fan I could be happy sitting here watching the whole Puck gang watch paint dry. On a side note do you figure all the cheap locally brewed beer would factor into Milwaukee being a happier place than Canada?

    • ElectricGecko

I actually just chose Milwaukee because I was trying to think of the least happy place in America. I could have gone for Detroit, but that felt like a low blow.

  • Brantford Dan

Whoops meant to say Canadas Funderland

  • Aaron

If you’re seriously alluding to the real thing, Funderland is about an hour NORTH of Toronto (on a good day). Also, I highly approve of St. Lucia for a spa vacation. My wife and I had our honeymoon there and it was amazing, but I can see MANY ways for Puck to have… misadventures…

    • ElectricGecko

Fine. Vaughn. Vaughn is special and totally not in any way connected to the massive mega-city directly next to it. As for Puck in St. Lucia, let’s just say that I don’t think I’m spoiling anything when I say that I doubt she’ll ever get to that little slice of paradise.

  • Leer

Funderland? Made me think of Fundy. Which got me to thinking of Screech (love the stuff) which got me to thinking of seal flipper pie.

I have too much sense to try it but some day, when I have an unsuspecting visitor with me, he’s gonna get to try it…

  • Charcoal the cat

Seriously? Wasn’t Puck in massive dept before?

    • ElectricGecko

People in massive debt seldom use sudden windfalls of cash to pay down their massive debt.

    • Valkeiper2012

using a windfall to pay a dept would be a sensible thing to do.

when was the last time you saw Puck do anything sensible with Dafne’s encouragement?

  • dralou

Okay, the new vote incentive ? Totally boring. I thought you trolled us by saying it wasn’t anything interessing, but boy, was I wrong… Gotta keep checking at it, maybe I’ll “get it” if I stare at it long enough.

    😛

  • Valkeiper2012

with Puck, Daphne, and Phoebe as female role models, I am beginning to worry about Miranda

  • Marduk

This may just be the nerd in me, but I was expecting to see Phoebe in a skintight ski outift for the vote incentive. Stupid sexy Flanders.

    • ElectricGecko

Well, there’s always the future. Sometimes we just need to make room for the classier things in life. Like flame-breathing robot tigers and loincloths.

  • Greg White

How about having Puck and company go to the Bone Church in the Czech Republic? It’s open everyday except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

  • Mike Williams

LOL when I read the phrase “JANKY”, I knew ahead of time this substitute theme park was setting up the potential for bizarre sequences ahead.

    Should be fun…

    *grabs popcorn*

    • ElectricGecko

It must be noted that the real life equivalent of ‘Canada’s Funderland’ is a really nice amusement park – the best in Canada, without a doubt. My version will probably play up the potential for bizarre sequences.

  • Lady Alexis

… At least I have chicken.
