NEW COSPLAY VOTING INCENTIVE!!! I asked my high-tier patrons on Patreon about cosplay possibilities they wanted to see in a voting incentive. And we've got some wonderful suggestions that garnered a number of votes! So got to TWC and... VOTE TO COS LIKE A BOSS!!! As for this comic... Just going to note that it's good Phoebe's dad didn't tag along. Not sure what kind of reception he would have gotten here.

    The attendant’s wife doesn’t approve.

    Her name is Edith.

    • ElectricGecko

All yokel wives are named Edith.

      • Andy

Or Ethel, my grandma, born and raised in WVA was an Ethel.

        • sigpig

When I hear/read “Ethel”, I immediately think of “I Love Lucy”. She was a “city girl” though.
When I hear/read “Edith”, I immediately think of “All in the Family”. Edith was the real star of that show, but Archie is the epitome of “Urban Hick”. In other words, perfect for the City of Hamilton… lol

(When I was a tyke, I used to think that “All in the Family” was filmed and located in Hamilton. If you think about it, the similarities to North and East Hamilton are stunning. Especially if you consider the Polish emigree population near Barton and Sherman, where a pretty Anglo girl can fall in love with a tall Polish boy and cause friction with her “Urban Hick” dad…)

Hamilton is a perfect distillation of the American Midwest rust belt experience … only bafflingly located in Canada. So yeah, that checks out. Archie Bunker could totally come from Hamilton.

I hated ‘All in the family’ (still do).
The liberals must have loved it.

It showcased Archie’s stupidity and idiocy and made it seem like his conservative values were a result of his stupidity, idiocy, and extreme bigotry.

I hold the same conservative values of patriotism and individualism, but I hated his racism, sexism, and all those other extreme ideals Archie had (still hate them).
I am not a big fan of homosexuality, lesbianism, trans-gender, or all that other stuff.
I can and will tolerate people who hold them (as long as they don’t try to push them on me), but I do NOT tolerate racism, sexism (except the one and only NATURAL application), and the extreme bigotry Archie exhibited.

      • You can’t have your cake and Edith too. I had to say it.

Lol. Where is this place called Hamilton, Ontario, Canada? Is it the Los Vegas of the north? Only hot and bothersome half of the year instead of year round?

    • ElectricGecko

      Winters? Pah! No winters here!

    • sigpig

This week, Hamilton, Ontario is hotter than Las Vegas, Nevada.
And if you count the “humidex”, it’s hotter than Death Valley.

      • ElectricGecko

I hate this country for that. It’s only comfortable for two months out of the year. I recently watched a video by a Nigerian guy who moved to Alberta, and he was cautioning people who are thinking of moving to Canada about the summer’s intense heat. He says people are constantly ribbing him when he complains, saying to him, “You’re from Africa! You should be used to the heat!” And he responds, “No, I’m used to warm weather. I’m not used to … whatever this nightmare is.”

        • Commander Clash

We had a woman from South Africa working with differently abled people ofcvsrying degrees lamanting how cold it was in winter. One one of our outings we watched a video of a group of Canadians planted a a Canadian flag at the noth pole as a thumb in the eye to the Russians. Reportedly it was -60° with winds getting up to 80 kph and higher. Asked after that if she still thought it was cold.

        • JJR

Florida prepared me for living in Canada.

          • ElectricGecko

Yeah, that’d do it. A friend in college was from Oregon but originally hailed from Missouri. Upon stepping off the plane in Ontario for the first time (in the middle of the summer), his reaction was, “Oh, so I’m basically back in the South again.”

        • Frank Harr

“Yeah, that’d do it. A friend in college was from Oregon but originally hailed from Missouri. Upon stepping off the plane in Ontario for the first time (in the middle of the summer), his reaction was, ‘Oh, so I’m basically back in the South again.’ ”

          And then: January

        • Frank Harr

“Our country has no end of ways to make you miserable.”

That’s most places, I think. The harmonics may differ, but it still rhymes.

  • LaughingDemon

What’s the regional equivalent of “all hat and no cattle”? or “all barrel and no beer?”

  • JJR

I hate it when I stop to ask for directions only to find out my destination is only one block over.

    • ElectricGecko

Better than pulling over to ask for directions and finding you’re seven hours away and you’ve been going the wrong direction.

  • So long as Colin can have his cake and eat it, too.

    • ElectricGecko

      Uh, he can’t.

      Not that cake anyway.

      • sigpig

It’s even worse if you replace “cake” with “pie”, amirite?

“All meringue and no pie” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue either.
A buddy’s fiancee once made us a “delicacy” for dessert once. It was a store-bought cherry pie suspended in a cake pan filled with chocolate cake batter, and then baked.

It was dubbed “Piecaken” – after the great American South invention of “Turducken”…

  • Macavity

Admittedly, someplace creepy in the middle of nowhere would be an apropos venue for a Scooby Doo convention.

  • bergerjacques

I think the new Scooby Gang are soon to learn an important lesson regarding the phenomenon of unreliable narrators and the hidden agenda of rural populations and the proper treatment of sinful city dwellers.

    Phoebe FTW! 🙂

  • Old Scribe

“We’d have made it to the Scooby Convention too, if it wasn’t for those meddling kids.”

“What meddling kids? You and your bargain GPS got us lost, doofus.”

    “Ruh, roh.”

(Well, someone had to say it)

  • Frank Harr

I see the chap you hire to write the subtitles felt a little rushed this week.

Is he saying Hamilton or Toronto is sinful? Either way, I find it hard to credit. Must be relative. Like the temperature.

Poor Phoebe. I’m not saying he’s WRONG, just poor Phoebe.

  • rewinn

    In re new voting incentive:

“Puck is not really bad, she’s just drawn that way” … is wrong on both counts 😉

  • Commander Clash

When I saw there a bew Puck pic I immediately thought it been Canada Day based

  • Justin

Jessica Puck votey, my only thought is hawt 🙂

  • Leak

    Satan?
    Reception?
    On his mobile phone?
    Out there in the boonies?
    Not a chance…

  • LaughingDemon

Ok, how can that be permissible?

  • JJR

    Is Canada day even celebrated?
I am an American living in Quebec, so I am not sure.
The Quebecois are kinda anti-Canadian at times.

    • ElectricGecko

Kinda? Not really? Quebec is an area where you can get beat up for just talking about Canada Day. And as for the rest of Canada, it’s a muted celebration compared to our neighbours down south. In my area the big fireworks celebration is Victoria Day (around May 24th) so we never do anything on Canada Day. Some families let off sad fireworks of their own. Ottawa always has a big party. Most Canadians do nothing, though.
