That look on her face was something like, “I don’t need to be seeing any more puppies for a while.” Or perhaps, “Thank Baby Jesus I don’t have to buy a shotgun.”
Okay, are they both deaf? There were just people within one foot of the van discussing the identity of the “monster” and Tyler and Daphne were so unaware that they were caught…well redhanded so to speak.
Not deaf, just ā¦ distracted.
Based on that, then I surmise that “2nd base” was a down shift at that particular moment. Daphne’s ears are likely waaaay more sensitive than the average teenage girl, so there was either more action going on than originally surmised or Tyler’s got some moves that we’ve never suspected if they were actually at the 2nd base level. Side note, is second base a universal thing, or is there like a Canadian 2nd base vs American league?
Second base is the same in Canada. Our baseball is identical to yours. Only our football is weird.
And you need to understand that this is probably the first time that these two are playing ball. The intensity of the experience is certainly heightened in that scenario.
And furthermore, just accept the highly improbable. Because the joke doesnāt happen unless we do.
First time? Pardon, but didn’t Daphne nail Tyler full on the lips rolling around in his front yard after Prom? His parents interrupted them as I recall. That sounds pretty much like ball to me.
They got a walk to first base. This is a solid line drive to left field and a sprint to second. I think that counts as a new experience.
Second base wasn’t a UK think when I was a teenager, because we don’t play baseball. Back then if we called this anything at all it was “top half only”. But I’m 56 and for all I know this could be another part of UK culture and language that has been infected by the US.
Iām guessing the UK kids have adopted this one now, what with the overwhelming power of the US-dominant Internet, but I might be wrong.
Kinda funny because baseball has been waning in popularity in North America for decades. Most kids donāt play or watch it here. But itās remained in the lexicon.
We ought to use cricket metaphors for this in the UK. I mean with phrases like “leg before wicket” you can’t go wrong.

What kind of van is the current Mystery Machine anyhow? 2022 era family SUV or vintage era throwback?
The original had back seats for Shaggy and Scoob, but for this version, are we talking 70s era Chevy Van, or a Ford Econoline shaggin’ wagon….

Logically, this would seem pointless; unless Miranda’s a bottle-fed baby she’s seen puppy nose before.
But a daddy’s protective instincts do not rely on logic; thinking is too slow.

You also don’t want Miranda to misinterpret what’s going on, ask weird questions or decide that it’s a good idea to take Daphne’s top off without permission first. She’s learning by example here.

Well given that we could conclude that the two youts are not looking at each other, or that their gaze is not falling upon where they think that the ‘action’ is taking place. I think that it can be safely concluded that the two had gone from basic canoodling to exploratory second base. And further hence, they they were both startled from their mutual engagement to swiftly alter their combined focus to a new threat to their newly found date night activities. Hence their swiftly turned heads to the back door. Tyler’s hand yielding it’s purchase for safety. Daphne’s ponytail unable to overcome the inertia that it had in the previous moment succumbing to the force that surprised the female yout to whipsaw her view to her adopted mother’s gaze of ire.

But honestly, I do put about this level of planning into key panels like that. So it is nice to have someone so artfully break it down.
Most of use don’t know. We can’t. But we do appreciate it even when we don’t know why.
