Chapter: The Old OnesCharacters: Colin Phoebe PuckTags: boyfriend commitment male empathy
This one marks the beginning of the “Phoebe’s Boyfriend” saga, which contains a number of funny gags, this one included. More gender-based humour here, but all too true. What is viewed as a travesty by one half of the population is also viewed as a holy blessing by the other. And it’s not just commitment-free sex, either. The same goes for other things too: football, Bud Light, the Three Stooges. (I’ll willingly admit that I’m a Stoogeophile. I’m not ashamed! Okay, well, maybe a little.) My favourite image here is Phoebe’s unimpressed face in the last panel. I don’t know why, but I like that one.

I have it on good authority that women (on average) don’t like “sensitive modern males”. Their tastes vary with age from brutish cavemen in their youth… towards rich, boring suits as they age.

And in typical female style… the most important feature seems to be an inherent personality flaw that they can try to fix… as long as they never actually succeed. It is the perpetual process of trying to rid the man of his bad habits and yet never actually managing to do so that keeps them coming back for more.

    i.e. Women. They crazy.

Sensitive modern males currently have a market value of -49 cents. Jerks with personality flaws out the yinyang? Invaluable on the dating market.

You wanted to say ” …trying to rid the man of his balls…and when they succeed change him for a new one”

Cray-cray is right. Most would be better off with an engineer, but that engineering degree permanently imbues you with the skin of +100 Invisibility To Women. They canNOT see you except for collision-avoidance.

The best webcomic theory on why All Girls Want Bad Boys is Florence Ambrose’s genetic gamble theory.

As for the personality flaw phenomenon, that is addressed in the pop psychology classic Getting the Love you Want by Harville Hendrix. (As in, “it’s true; here’s how to deal with it.”)

Finally, there’s an observation that as men become scacer than women (as was true in France after (I think) WWI and is now true on college campuses) instead of men competing for women using attributes women typically appreciate (intelligence, strength, sense of humor… well, and spending) women start competing for men on attributes men typically appreciate (i.e., sexual availability), causing the most desirable men to “benefit” disproportionately.

It has nothing to do with ANY of that. It has to do with leather jackets. LEATHER. EFFIN’. JACKETS.

of which I own two, though it wasn’t to get a woman, it was because 1. THE Fonze , 2. leather jackets are just that cool (and surprisingly comfy) and 3. they do actually attract women, maybe not in droves, but you wont complain lol…unless you aren’t gay/bi because they don’t JUST attract women… (but given my score card has more not strait guys hitting on me than women, that’s no surprise to me.)

I wear a heavy duty white leather long-coat.

I’ve never been propositioned by anyone while wearing it. I get a lot of stares though, and they’re not the sexualising sort.

    “heavy duty white leather long-coat”

The GOP was founded to end slavery, so I’ll take that bit about us as a compliment.

    • Sandia

Oh, and the Crusades were a retaliatory action against 600 years of Muslim oppression.

    • Salem Cat

And the NRA was founded to cement the Civil Right of Blacks to own guns, so as to protect themselves the Democrat Party and the KKK.

Yes, it is true. Look it up.

  • ElectricGecko

The GOP, pre-Nixon and the pre-Southern Strategy, was admittedly a far more reasonable organization than the current incarnation. The Crusades, though… The wheels and mechanisms of history don’t work like that. 600 years of history don’t typically inform the actions of an afternoon. That’s like saying WWII was a German reaction to the previous oppression of Napoleon … over 100 years prior.

And 600 years of oppression, dude… We’re talking random Saracen raids during the Dark Ages, a period when everyone and their neighbor were killing everyone and their neighbor. Following that logic, the Crusades could have equally been an armed ‘retaliatory force’ against the Vikings.

Phoebe doesn’t make that face very often.

Many of women I have met seem to hate nice guys, hook up with bad boys and then complain about the guy they are with about the same issues which attracted them.
