NEW VOTING INCENTIVE! IT'S MANGA MARCH!! Puck is turning into a sci-fi manga this month! Vote each week to see the full pic take form! VOTE FOR THE OTAKU IN YOU!!! As for this comic... The origin of Satan's retort in panel four probably can trace its origin to a picture I saw a few decades ago of a recycling center in China (back when China still willingly accepted the world's trash, which it no longer does). In the pic, they showed a corner of a plastic recycling facility where workers had piled up thousands (millions?) of old Barbie dolls. They'd been smashed into a huge, mangled pile about thirty feet tall: a giant, horrifying, tanned landmark to humanity's wasteful ways. That image stuck with me. Though I will readily admit it did nothing to change my consumerist habits.

Quick, someone needs to teach those monkey bears how to detail cars. And someone needs to provide wildlife oddity insurance, with fine print that excludes working animals.

    • ElectricGecko

See, that’d be real scheming. And this man has lost all his scheme.

      • Pat

Surely Daphne could provide some Pro Bono consulting in order to become the righteously enthroned gamer of the soon to be McTavish household. Our maybe just to convince the old man of the validity of the deal, a five percent fee of the backend profits.

I have to say that Puck has a point to this situation. He is the mayor of town after all I mean if he is not the mayor, then who is running the town government ?

    • ElectricGecko

He IS mayor. He just don’t care anymore.

    • Guy LaFranc

Being the mayor of a small Canadian town, sounds romantic and cool. Being the mayor of a small American town sounds like you’re a loser.

      • ElectricGecko

Hamilton is not a small town. It’s a relatively big (over half a million) city and it’s a bit of an infamous armpit. Think a slightly colder Baltimore. With about an equivalent history of poverty, sadness and despair. Nothing about Hamilton or its mayor is romantic or cool. Nothing.

        • Pat

Currently, I imagine that Hamilton does have a bridge knocked into a major shipping channel that carries international trade.

          • ElectricGecko

We do have a bridge. A boat did not hit it. But an idiot (who was perhaps under the influence of some type of substance) did drive over the bridge in a large dump truck with the back bed up. It plowed into the overhead support beams and caused millions in damage. The bridge wasn’t really seriously damaged, though.

          • Pat

I really need to make sure that I proof read some of my posts. I know I was going to put “DOESN’T” in there.

          • Frank H.

“We do have a bridge. A boat did not hit it”

There’s a bridge in New York that has been slated for demolition for years. Decades even. Despite it being spraypainted international distress orange people drive into it. At some point, the bridge might notice.

          • ElectricGecko

It’ll be fun when it does.

  • Frank

The barbies still need leadership. But he wouldn’t think that way.

  • Commander Clash

the lord of lousy lego sets

  • Carl Foxmarten

Cue “House of Broken Gingerbread“, by The Monkees.

    • ElectricGecko

Okay, I was listening to that song, and was thinking, “Huh. Don’t know this one. Then the song mentioned LEDs and I was like, “When was this song made?!?” 2018? Wasn’t Davy Jones dead at that point? And … yeah. I guess nothing stops the Monkees.

      • Carl Foxmarten

“Good Times” in 2016 and “Christmas Party” in 2018. Very few things can apparently stop a group like this, aside from death.

And there’s only one left, now…

  • Wyvern

    Clearly, he’s practicing his sloth.

  • MAC089

The TWC voting incentive image doesn’t seem to have changed.

  • Must be a big disappointment to Tracee.

  • demarion

Huh. I am picturing the scene in Basil The Mouse Detective. Captured by Ratigan, about to die, Basil is all depressed, then his friend Dawson inspires him to act . . . hey, if it gets Satan out of his slump, fine by me!

  • Llywenna

I’m still surprised he didn’t just glare at the ones forcing him out and ‘lay their souls to waste’ 😉

Of course his biggest mistake was creating lawyers and bureaucrats in the first place.

He had his chance but I guess there’s no sympathy for him now.

  • LaughingDemon

Jesus is my co-pilot, the devil is.. my mayor??
    Who’s running this outfit?
Duke of Damaged Dominoes isn’t too bad, you can get most of a set to stack up.
He’s gotta do some serious clawing upward if he wants to rank up to a Sultan of Swing.

  • Pat

    What happned to Salem cat?

    Not enough Tracee??

    • ElectricGecko

He still lurks. Emerges every now and then. And is appreciated when he does.

Given that there is now more Tracee in this comic than ever before, though, I feel I’ve done my part.

      • Paul

There can never be enough Tracee.

Also, I have to say, since this is March 31st and my last chance to say it, the March incentive is very important. I find myself referring to it often.

  • Had some further comment, but it all disappeared.

    • ElectricGecko

I restored it. Sorry. Something was tripping the spam filter.

      • Just now—I withdraw the notion that your site has anything to do with it, or even AOL. I’m on another computer, and the site came up just fine. It’s gotta be something on my laptop that I usually use to cruise the Internet…now I gotta figure out what it is.

        • ElectricGecko

I’ve had that happen. It occurs when the cache or saved file info from a site is corrupted or doesn’t match the site anymore. Deleting cached information inside the browser files will usually make the site work again.

  • Does the ACTUAL mayor of Hamilton (Andrea Horwath) read this comic?

If not, can someone introduce her to it? (Evil grin).

(As added trivia: Andrea is among the highest paid of any mayor in all of Canada, at $272k and change. Because, you know, that “wage gap” thing all the unemployed college-aged girls on TikTok keep complaining about. >_> )

    • ElectricGecko

From what I’ve gathered over the years, approximately two or three people in the greater Hamilton area read this comic. That’s it. Andrea Horwath would not. And hey, you gotta pay your mayors top dollar. If you don’t, you might get stinky mayors.

      • Frank H.

And more easily corruptible ones. Also I suspect her pay is, like for U.S. polititions, is set by law which would mean that it’s one of the few cases where you don’t get a wage gap.

        • ElectricGecko

I suspect that her pay has a little something to do with the fact that she was formerly the leader of the provincial NDP party (a far left party Americans don’t have) and thus a fairly prominent figure in Canadian politics. Her becoming mayor was considered a ‘big win’ by some and likely meant she could (to a certain extent) name her price.

          • Frank H.

I used to to know a guy who was in the NDP. Not when I knew him.

I’d have to know a lot more about how Canadian government works before I could understand that. Sorry. Like I said, I’d expect that the job’s compensation is set in law. So, if there’s an opportunity for negotiation, was it with the city council? The provincial legislature? Was she voted in by the population of the city or by the council? I just don’t understand.

Admittedly, I wouldn’t be able to answer some of those questions for municipalities here in the U.S. There’s too much variation.

          • ElectricGecko

Voted by general election, but I also have no idea how salary is set.

          • Frank H.

“Voted by general election, but I also have no idea how salary is set.”

            O.K.

I don’t know who sets the compensation for my mayor either. I’m just sort of declaring that “By Law” is how it’s done ’cause knowing some of how we do things, there’s have to be a really good reason for it not to be. But I don’t know if that’s law created BY the city I live in, or over in Boston. It’s interesting what you don’t know no?

          • The more interesting question then becomes: “Who writes the law that determines mayoral salaries? Is it mayors?”

          • ElectricGecko

I am willing to guess … yes. If we go by the dynamic in most large corporations. Elon decided how Elon was compensated at Tesla. I’d like to think the public sector isn’t so bold, but … as I work in the public sector, I don’t hold out much hope.
