Puck 464

Chapter: Junior PromCharacters: Phoebe Puck
NEW VOTING INCENTIVE! CAR WASH! There's another bonus preview image for the car wash bonus comic that's appearing in Puck Volume Two ... eventually. This one features the actual washing of cars, so check it out! VOTE FOR PUCK BECAUSE IT ALLOWS YOU TO EXERCISE YOUR FREE WILL! As for this comic... I usually try to avoid situations where comics have a time jump between them but keep the exact same characters in them. But here I fell down on the job. The last comic had Puck and Phoebe out walking. Then time jump, and it's Puck and Phoebe. Again. It's just sloppy storytelling, but honestly, I was running out of time and I didn't have another idea for a comic. Also, any idea I came up with would have probably just been filler, and unless it's hilarious filler, I don't think this story arc needs to be lengthened. It's already super long.

Will Phoebe make saphne’s prom dress. What about a suit for Colin?

  • ChrisH

    Phoebe is so talented! πŸ™‚

  • Phoebe’s chair has little curved horns on top?

Nothing wrong with that, of course. It’s her cultural heritage.

  • “Say, have you ever met the girl who’s the toast of the town? / A work of art without a question. / You better write her number down, you fools.”

    • ElectricGecko

Puck’s dress was NOT intentionally a reference to that song, but sure. That works too.

Perhaps you had this in mind for Puck’s dress … ?

… & yes, I’m aware that the Hollies originally said that it was a BLACK dress – I searched high-&-low to find a link that used “red” instead.

      • DMC_Run

… Meanwhile, for Phoebe’s dress, what could be more appropriate than this:

( … in a karaoke-version, just for you, because we care!)

It works, they were just walking Miranda around until she fell asleep then back to the house.

  • pat

Wait a minute Gecko, why can’t the joke be that once Phoebe starts to talk about something, it’ll last until they get back to the house, baby buggy put up, Miranda put down for a nap and Puck a cup of coffee while Phoebe goes about making Puck a smashing dress where after starting the hemming, Phoebe finished talking and Puck may have been standing in the doorway for that bit and just nodded while drinking her 5 o’clock caffeine jolt. Thus bringing us to this point. I mean, I guess, is it of absolute importance to hear every thing that a character says if it doesn’t move the story. I mean, my thought of what happened seems to be somewhat consistent with the personalities when they aren’t in the spotlight. But does it move the story along?

  • DelT

It’s not big of a time jump. Puck is in the same argyle, and Phoebe is still in that same improbable.

  • Wyvern

But really, what was Puck *expecting* Phoebe to wear? Jeans and a t-shirt?

  • Lokitsu

I’m sorry to go off topic, but do you know what happened to Susan? I noticed that she hasn’t posted comments for quite a while.

    • ElectricGecko

She hasn’t posted in a long time. Not sure if she’s lurking or just stopped reading. Hope she’s doing okay.

      • pat

Might have to check with Salem. He may know something.

        • SalemCat

          @pat

          I’m worried about Susan, too.

          And Buggle.

Nope, I have no way to connect with either.

Too bad. We all like them a lot.

          • ElectricGecko

I potentially have a way to contact them. Because anyone who comments puts in an email address. The catch is that the email address doesn’t have to be a real email address, so the addresses might not work. But as a webcomic creator, I feel hesitant to email former readers. It just feels like I’m chasing them or giving them a hard time for no longer reading.

          • SalemCat

            @EG

            Tough Call

I would suggest a personal but short note just to inquire if they are ok. But before that happens….

I know Susan used to comment on THE ISLAND, one of the very few comics we both followed.

THE ISLAND seems to have totally died quite recently.

Does any Puckster follow any other comic that Susan follows ?

            I do not.

And that would be a very unobtrusive way to check.

        • SalemCat

          @pat

          At least YOU’RE here !

I always look forward to your wisdom- and weirdness.

      • Typeminer

I hope she’s okay, too. Always enjoy her comments.

      • SalemCat

My human pet “Baldie” once told me something somewhat profound, though he was unable to express it eloquently. And still can’t.

It basically was be very thankful for each and every day, even when that day seems very ordinary.

Because there will be a time, when that ordinary but vital daily event will end.

You’ll never know that it will be the last time until long afterwards.

So be thankful and enjoy it all to the fullest.

        • DMC_Run

          [SalemCat]:
          Agreed.
In trying to explain this notion, I compare it to Oxygen, in that it’s so pervasive that it’s easy to take for granted…
          … but oh — the moment it’s gone …
… & just like that, you realize just how much you’re lost without it!!!

    • If she’s anything like my “hiatus”, she’s still here, but not finding something she finds worth commenting on.

  • Kaiser

Whenever I see a comic that has the same characters, but in two vastly different locations one comic to the next, I just imagine an invisible “An unspecified amount of time later, because the author couldn’t think of something to happen, so this is why you’re now seeing this.”
    I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing…

    • ElectricGecko

That IS what everyone thinks. And I think it’s … not the best thing. Which is why I try to avoid it. But sometimes I can’t because my brain stops working.

      • DLKmusic

If it helps at all, I was thinking that the conversation was picking up again right after Phoebe had finished her story (some unspecified time later).

To which the readers all say… “Halellujah!”

  • sigpig

I was thinking “After the commercial break…”
I mean, the same two football teams are on the field after a commercial, so why not the same two characters?

  • SalemCat

    Ha Ha !

EG ought to do another “STICKERLUDE” compilation, but this time with stick figures with our member AVATARS stuck on them.

We could just be standing around smiling, I suppose. Or commenting on a PUCK episode.

It might give some regulars a reason to dig up an Avatar.

That would be really stoopid, and thus enjoyable.

PS I think we could can all imagine SUSAN, all excited, reading the latest PUCK, while her BF is reading the newspaper, muttering “Yes Dear.”

  • DMC_Run

If Puck wears RED to the Prom,
    & Phoebe wears BLUE,
will Daphne wear GREEN, or maybe a deep BLUE_VELVET?

  • ChrisH

DMC.Run, orange you going to ask which color dress Hannah will wear?
    πŸ˜‰

  • Frank Harr

She knits, she sews, she designs! Despite that unfortunate boa phase, she has something like style! Electrical engineering seems more and more probable.

    O.K., fashion design.

  • I usually try to avoid situations where comics have a time jump between them but keep the exact same characters in them.

Is it at all comforting to be told that this sort of thing flies under the audience’s radar, 99% of the time? (or 99% of the audience, at least).
