Puck 574

Chapter: Jinkies!Characters: Colin PuckTags: fred shaggy video game
IT'S THE GHOST OF NOVEMBERS PAST! Take a trip down memory lane as we revisit some voting incentives from previous Novembers. This week's entry is from 2014! It's one of my favorite incentives that pays homage to Archie. Not sure why it originally ran in November, but IT DID! It's not new, but it's still fresh! VOTE FOR SUCCESS ON THE MINOR LEAGUE CIRCUIT!!! As for this comic... I do believe that Puck has a point here. It's not that the one has fully superseded the other, exactly. But video games are certainly the most popular type of time waster among those that have time to waste. It's not a perfect comparison. But it kinda works. And hey, look! The laundry room! The last time we saw the gross laundry room, Colin and Puck were visiting it for ... other purposes.

Hey, I just got my semi-annual haircut.

  • Lokitsu

Colin, why do you want to be a Fred? Because, let’s face it, Fred is kind of a twit.
At the end of the day, I think we’d all rather hang out with Shaggy.

Hey … Games are not the same as weed …

Weed mellows you out … do you know how many times I’ve nearly had to buy a new TV or Controller because of a game …

If I had to say … Games are more like … hmmm … Meth … yeah … cause I get all itchy when I don’t play them long enough … my hands get twitchy and itchy … like ants crawling on them …

I need my games … I need my games … I’ll be right back … cause I need to game … it makes the twitch and itch stop …

    BUT … I’m okay … I don’t have a gaming problem … I really don’t … see I’m putting down the controller now … No I’m playing a games as i’m typing this … that’s not a second monitor that you see …

    I DON’T HAVE GAMING PROBLEM!!!

    I’m joking … of course ^_^

  • Narrator: Puck was not wrong.

  • Dunno if anyone else in the cast fits that description. We don’t know what Papa Shnorf looks like under his outfit, and Stan the Crack Dealer would probably object.

Damn… personality and looks wise I’m probably Freddy (never Fred! NEVER!), ’cause blonde, and not totally buff (in between Shaggy Skinny and Freddy somewhat buff), but I take charge… automatically. Uncle Sugar in the US Armed services decided an 18 year old me was command material and I kinda lived up to it *was absolutely smart enough to listen to my top sergeants that were twice my age and experience, though… but I was probably still quite a bit of a twit outside of command decisions).
Also I don’t engage in the reefer madness, though it might honestly help.
I do drink like a fish though… both water at work, and then the much higher proof stuff at home, especially on days when I’ve worked, so there’s that.
And if I don’t bother to shave, which under a mask, I don’t really need to as much, I look like Shaggy in about two days.
Also, I eat quite a lot for my frame.
I am definitely a better Freddy than olin, but I feel his pain. Also I wanna be Shaggy, but I’m too dumb to be a coward. When I thing “Someone needs to do something!” I also think “Well, f***, I happen to be SOMEONE.”
It doesn’t always help. I mean, sometimes, so that’s probably why I think it, but oh man, the times it doesn’t are usually real bad.
Whatever. I’ll continue to be the verboten Scrappy and splat ’em!
It’s much more thoughtless and so much easier.
Also seems to have so much a better support network.
Incidentally, I totally have Velma’s back, because clearly she’s the smart one. Smart may not always be correct, but in Scooby’s case? Woof.

In all of that, the thing that grabs me the most is your insistence that Fred be called “Freddy”. I wonder if this is a generational thing. But on the official Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Jones_(Scooby-Doo) he’s listed as just Fred. And I always knew him as just Fred. I think I remember the girls sometimes referring to him as Freddy, but I took that as just a cute nickname. I dunno. I’ve Googled it but I’ve yet to get to the bottom of this.

You’re probably a little younger than I, but I don’t think there’s that big a difference. Born tail end of 1974. Definitely watched the early Scooby shows, even though I had no idea about who Phyllis Diller might be or many other guest stars…
Though I don’t think I need to be a main character. Let me be a foil. I still get screen time, have my own fans, and still get paid.
Also, still Freddy… though maybe Mercury influenced that with me? He is never Frederick Mercury. Nor Fred Mercury.
Freddie. Though in Mr Jones case, Freddy.

    • Frank Harr

Shaggy is one of the main stars of the show. Fred, Velma and Daphne are really only there to give Shaggy and Scooby context, otherwise, what they do doesn’t make any sense.

  • Sigurther

Oh, sweety.. *Weed* is the weed of the twenty first century.

Videogames are like the crack-cocaine of the twenty first century, just ask anyone who got into World of Warcraft when it started. XD

  • Frank Harr

Hey, we haven’t seen THIS room in a while.

Hey, Colin’s being asperational. He wants to be better. But Puck has spoken. Plus, it’s funnier this way. Maybe if Colin watched Extra Credits, he’d feel better about, you know, things.

    Puck IS a mom. 🙂

  • sigpig

As soon as I saw the laundry room, it brought back memories… lol

  • Ben

I had alwàys assumed Shaggy was a stoner, the whole “always eating” thing

  • Commander Clash

If video games are weed them I’ve been hooked since age 5.

  • Drakeye

the only thing he actively objected to was the stoner comment…..

  • Sleel

This is the basement, right? Just wondering cause of the cinder blocks. In my life to date, and while doing construction for 30ish years, I’ve never seen a cinder block basement. Just concrete or stone from the really old houses (not even dressed, just natural stone fit and mortared).

    • Sleel

Tho, thinking about it, it might make sense in other parts of the country. Prairie gumbo heaves to much with freeze/thaw and wet/dry ground cycles. (it’s the clay in the soil, it really swells and contracts under those condition variations. a lot) While a cinder block wall in the ground will be killed by the ground in less then a decade, I’d figure, but in Shield territory they don’t have to worry bout that so it might be feasible in rocky ground foundations.

      • SalemCat

In New England, there are many old homes (100+ years).

The homes of the poor are mortared field stone (yuck).

The homes of the wealthy are large blocks of dressed granite (wow).

Still, poured concrete with mesh and rebar, most likely beats even the best granite of old.

      • ElectricGecko

This isn’t shield territory. Southern Ontario is prime farmland. The ground is soil. Walls don’t have a problem.

    • ElectricGecko

Most houses around here built 1940 to 1980 have cinderblock foundations.

  • LaughingDemon

Like, zoinks! I didn’t even consider that until I thought about all the snacking that goes with gaming. Though it’s probably something harder. I’m gonna mainline some MMO this weekend.

I’m partial to the Harvey Birdman explanation that “Shaggy” (with an attempted gang sign) wasn’t high, but just stupid. However, the original concept had Shaggy get high to understand Scooby, so.. that could go either way.

  • Honestly, I only ever liked the Scooby Doo cast was in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Mostly because they were parodying them in a way that I found very funny. 🙂

  • Sigurther

OKay, sure, you can be Fred.

But you have to shave the beard. XD

  • ChrisH

If Colin wants Puck to agree with him, he darn well better help her with the laundry! 😉

  • DanF

Seems to me they could alternate the parts of Velma and Daphne. They don’t have to have the same roles every time they cosplay.
