RING IN THE NEW YEAR WITH PUCK! Celebrate the New Year and the end of 2020 with Puck and Phoebe! VOTE FOR AULD LANG SYNE!!! As for this comic... Puck's response was kinda stolen from Coca-Cola president Donald Keough after the whole 'New Coke' debacle went down. When New Coke replaced old Coke, only to be killed and replaced by old Coke again, it resulted in a a huge boost in sales for Coke. And Keough dropped that response. It's one of my favorite responses of all time. But come on, seriously? We know they were all lucky idiots. In Puck's case, I'm not so sure.

    Mad Miranda.

    PS – First!

  • Really? Would’a thought she’d just shave him while he slept…

    • ElectricGecko

You don’t understand coercion in a marital context, my friend. Such things only work when you can effectively convince the person that it was their idea.

      • There was this French movie (which I’ve never seen, just seen described), where a guy with a moustache shaved it off and nobody remembered (or would admit remembering) he ever had one.

Puck could’a done something like that.

        • ElectricGecko

We would have remembered. We always do.

My last experiment (in any case, my head hair is still a good colour but my beard hair is a distressing mix of red and grey) with facial hair was a pair of standalone sideburns. I was having second thoughts about them anyway because the only positive comments I was getting were from other guys, but a woman I went out with said I should shave them off. I did, I went out with her again and she failed to notice that anything had changed. 🙁

Colin wins a pyrrhic victory he will regret later when Puck collects on her favor.

I tried to make a “New Colin” joke to match the “New Coke” punchline, but got tangled in the problem of which formulation is “Colin Classic”: beard or no beard.

Miranda and Puck appear to disagree on this, but fortunately infantile amnesia is a thing.

    • ElectricGecko

      I appreciate the effort.

And yes, Miranda’s anger will pass. Children under four are great that way. Children over four never forget, though. Ever. So you need to shift your game plan at that point.

  • Thisguy

I don’t know if it’s the boyish face, or the outfit, but Colin looks creepy young now.
Well, at least Puck gets a win too. Miranda, not so much.

  • JJR

Puck could have just asked Colin to shave.

  • “Yes, finally! I’m the less interesting of the two main human leads… oh.”

  • JJR

Who Will win the battle of the beard Miranda or Puck?
Will Colin keep it off or grow it back for Miranda?
Also, this would be a good time for Puck and Colin to get married. At least he looks cleaned up.

  • Donald MacDonald

At least Miranda did not burst into laughter at the sight of the “new” Colin, which I suppose could have been more embarassing.

  • Frank Harr

Ah, Puck. She has no idea if it’s coming back or not. If it were me, I’d BE shaggy and keep the beard. Not that I cosplay supporting characters. Or anyone else, for that matter.

The question is, there there be two Freds? Tyler would rock either roll, but I don’t see him willingly be Shaggy, it would be a step down sartorially. Unless Daphne asked nicely. 🙂

    .

Or threatened him. That would work too.

The last frame tells of big sis rubbing off on little sis. Those crossed arms and glance of disapproval… totes adorbs.

Miranda is entering that age where kids start to actively emulate adult body language. It’s a fun stage. Before that, they just sort of thrash around when angry.

    • sigpig

To me, Miranda’s facial and body language more closely resembles her AUNT’S – the sister of Colin, Heather MacTavish…

      • ElectricGecko

        Terrifying!

      • Buggle

Would she even actually remember meeting Heather? (PS, is Heather coming back soon? for the wedding maybe?)

        • ElectricGecko

No, Miranda was a very little baby at that point. As it is, memory with kids under four is a little bit … abstract.

And yes, Heather will likely return for the wedding arc. Whenever that happens. Because we have to finish this arc, and then there’s ANOTHER arc (which I’m looking forward to, because it’ll be a fun one) and then the wedding. Eventually.

          • Buggle

Lordy, can no two things happen at the same time?

          • ElectricGecko

In a weekly comic where all story beats must occur in recurring four-panel chunks with a mandatory comic beat in every fourth panel, I honestly struggle to have one thing happening at once.

  • ChrisH

I want to know what Daphne thinks of Fred-style Colin. I hope this will transpire soon.

  • Rojo

Aw poor Miranda. Actually there is one thing I have been curious about for years since I discovered Puck. Will we ever get to see Puck side of the family? (Since we saw Collin fam in the blonde saga) I always imaged them to be like hippies traveling the world or something. With hot tempers and resolve everything with hammers and fists

    • ElectricGecko

Okay, so here’s my thoughts on this. I think the whole “Puck’s Family” thing could be an interesting concept to explore, but if I were to do that, I’d need to actually delve into the whole “What does Puck even being a fairy mean?” question, and I’ve consciously steered clear of that for so long. We’ve never really had an explanation as to why she is, or where she’s from. She just is.

So I think I’m going to keep it to Puck having no family. Unless I get a REALLY good idea that I want to explore.

      • Frank Harr

I’m fine with that. It would have to be a terribly good idea at this point.

        • ElectricGecko

Exactly. I feel that opening a narrative can of worms which you’ve kept purposefully closed for decades is usually a bad call. Maybe that’s how I’d end the series; I dunno. Just jump the shark real hard and have Puck grow wings and fly off to fairy land or something.

      • Valkeiper2020

Want an idea on that Geck?
Whick the TV series called “True Blood”.

Fairies are among a lot mythical creatures featured in that series.
In fact, one even seduces a local sheriff and has a litter (literally… 4 at once).
It was a VERY short pregnancy (less than a week) and childbirth (less than an hour on a pool table).
The mother got up and was gone just seconds (literally seconds) after giving birth.

Turned out fairies aren’t very powerful compared to other creature.
        A week-old vampire killed a 5,000 year old fairy.

        • ElectricGecko

That is an idea. It’s not an idea I’ll use, but it IS an idea.

          • Rojo

That actually an interesting topic because Fairy lore could go anywhere from

Disney logic born from a baby laugh (or in Puck case a possibly very evil baby)

True blood logic where they live in a hidden dimension

I think personally Faeries follow Greek Fury Rule where they are all women and reproduce with human men to keep the diary race alive.

So there an idea Puck could have a “mom” probably not a good mom figure since Puck picked up some nasty habbit (punching doctors and whacking people with hammers as few examples)

  • “I give in” rhymes with “Secretly my win!”

  • Frank H.

Is Miranda a fan of the lack of face fur?
