The GREAT NOUN ADVENTURE RETURNS!
A year ago we did a big, weird noun-voting experience over on Patreon with my $5+ patrons and this year it came back with much fanfare! And now you get to see the bizarre results! It’s a pile of weird nouns just thrown into a blender. What will result? Well…
VOTE TO EXPOUND WITH A GREAT DEAL OF NOUNS!!!
As for this comic…
Lest we need a little reminder that this comic sometimes gets a little spicy, here we are. Just a little spicy, though. Like a jalapeño.
I don’t think that we’re going to have to worry about the peanut butter this time, right?
Good memory. Let’s hope not.
🙂
Is that a smile of approval?
My loot/swag/booty/merch arrived, it’s good stuff, comfy and fits well.
Did a trip into town to try it out but no response yet.
I’ll keep trying and let you know if it gets recognised.
I do like Teepublic’s stuff. I have a number of shirts from them (some my designs, some other people’s) and I find them comfy. The designs generally age well too. They don’t fade or fall apart.
Do let me know if anyone ever recognizes it, though I’m personally doubtful.
I just realized I’ve been reading Puck for longer than I have known my fiancee. Thanks Gecko, for all you do.
Well, he has been writing Puck for longer than he’s been married, if you consider the length of time from when he began until now.
Yep. Before I even met my wife, so … long time.
Well, I’m glad I can be there for you, in whatever capacity this is. Also glad to know that the reading of Puck did not scare your fiancée away.
I recall you writing previously how impracticaly short that nightgown of Puck’s was, and how it would ride up to easily.
I’d glad to see that you’re showing that it does, in fact, ride up (which may be the intention here…).
Puck does not have the control over clothing that Phoebe has.
Hey man. We get the physics right here. Except with Phoebe’s clothing.
Double-sided tape.
Yes, the most likely answer.
If *you* were an item of clothing on Phoebe, would *you* cling tightly or let go?
Fair point.
My personal headcanon is that it is the imprisoned souls of prudes, fighting to keep her *just* decent.
Bottom rides up, straps fall down. I cannot imagine why Colin likes it on her.
And, as always, it ultimately comes back to boning.
The ultimate reduction of the meaning of life:
A zygote is just a gametes way of creating more gametes.
Amen.
At least finish the quote:
“A zygote is a gamete’s way of producing more gametes. This may be the purpose of the universe.” – Lazarus Long (as written by Robert A. Heinlein).
Thanks for that. Couldn’t remember where it came from, it’s been a long time since I read Time Enough For Love.
Now you’ve gotten me to think about re-reading ALL the “Lazarus” books and short stories. Maybe even the entire “Future History” too. It’s about time for my yearly “Starship Troopers/The Moon is a Harsh Mistress/Stranger in a Strange Land” read-through too…
@sigpig (for some reason, there’s no “reply” … maybe the tree goes only so deep???)
If you’re doing a Heinlein re-read, let me suggest “Double Star” – which seems to have been based on his experience in politics, plus spaceships, plus The Prisoner Of Zenda. Delightful!
Well, I guess it could always come back to something else, like sleeping. Or pooping. But I prefer a different life landmark.
Like….. not having to use candy bar wrappers?
Exactly.
His beard will probably have grown back while he’s finishing up here.
Is that how beards work? Huh. I never noticed.
He might actually grow a chest-hair or two… lol
Unlikely. And that’s because drawing chest hair is hard to do in the vaguely cartoony style I’m using here. It would likely look silly.
I was thinking along the style of Charlie Brown’s “hair”… lol
Terrifying.
Incoming two-year R-rated story arc!
Nah. But that would be interesting, admittedly.
Then there’s the “full Phil Foglio”.
Yeah. I’m also wondering how much Puck may be subliminally inspired by certain hormonal adolescent shenanigans going on earlier as well.
Plus, hey Papa Schnorf is surprisingly good looking beneath that mask.
You might not be wrong.
After all, part of the fun of a healthy long-term relationship is discovering unexpected turn-ons. This time it’s an ascot. What will it be tomorrow?
I’m kind of afraid to find out.
Kinky!
With a capital ‘K’.
In spite of how very long she’s been active on the earth, she’s still very young. [other relativistic issues deferred until much, much later, relatively speaking] See loaded comments about parenting up-thread.
I’m not sure she’s young, but she’s definitely immature. All good immortals worth their salt are immature as heck, though.
And thus, kid #2 was conceived? 😀
I’m hoping not.
Drawing kids is hard.
And I don’t want another pregnancy arc.
[Puck sits up after hitting her head]: “Who are you, old guy?”
Colin: “I’m your husband, and we’re at the college graduation of our son Ascot.”
‘Ascot’ is an awful, awful name for a child. Which means it’s bound to become popular soon.
Besides, we already have the future Empress of Earth . . . of course, there is such a thing as ‘heir and spare’ . . . no no, Miranda has all that hybrid vigour going on, no need, we’re fortunate to live in a time and place when that really isn’t a necessity.
You’ve got quite the theory going.
I,m expecting Puck to get her tubes tied.
Rather permanent for an ostensibly immortal being.
Didn,t Colin already throw the Ascot in the trash?
Nah, you keep something that valuable.
I rarely comment on the art, maybe because this doesn’t seem to be a comic oriented around the art (other than the costuming which is wonderful) but I feel compelled to say the gestures last week and this week, especially Panel 1 above, feel especially effective in conveying the mood. They aren’t meant to be funny and they aren’t, but they convey the relationship that sets up the humor.
Also: Zoincks!
Thank you. Though I will readily admit that this comic doesn’t really seem to be about the art, the art is a VERY big factor for me and I try as hard as I can with my limited toolbox. I do try to ‘act’ through the characters as best I can. I try for expressive poses. And I definitely try to put extra work in when drawing Puck in her more tender moments, if only because they’re so rare.
(aside … oh hey I did not mean to imply the art isn’t good. It is very good; this week we see a lot of excellence in the eyes. I meant to convey that these scripts could almost work as radio plays and the visuals appear to serve the writing, unlike some other webcomics (and TV series) where it appears that the writing is an excuse for the visuals.
Oh well, I guess there’s a reason I do write and I don’t draw….
Nah, I didn’t take it that way. You’re right, though, in that the primary purpose of the comic is the characters. And that’s more on the writing end. Plot is secondary, and art is only in service of communicating character, so yes, I’d say the writing is in front.
Ascots can be tied around other things than a neck.
Wrists, for instance…
Now you’re cooking with gas!
…Cooking with gascot?
You know, its easier for me to imagine this as Colin and Puck rather than adult Fred and Daphne cosplay. One is a romantic and sweet, the other is a dark reminder of what Puck found when she researched Velma on the internet….
This is Colin and Puck through and through.
Where did Colin put the Ascot?
In the ascot drawer.
This is sweet. There’s another comic I read that has basically good relations between their romantically bonded characters, so there’s not a lot of domestic drama, but those as well as this episode, can be very sweet.
Kudos to Colin for not pushing it. I’m sure it was a temptation.
Functional relationships are hard to depict in fiction. Well, they’re easy to depict but hard to make interesting. So I aim to depict a relationship that is a crazy collection of dysfunctions that orbit around a stable core of function. It’s the only approach I know.
And man does it it work.
🙂
Thank you, Teenie, Weenie Genie. Hummina! Hummina! Hummina!
Just doing her job.
You can either pout that YOU are not the ideal dom for you’re pretty wife’s secret submissive fantasy… or you can come along for the ride.
Wise choice, Colin.
He knows his role. He accepts his role. That is the key to happiness.
And plenty of Mr. T and video games.
Puck’s ear is horizontal in second panel! That means she has strong feelings. 🙂
Well, sincerity can be a strong emotion, right?
